In most advertisements, there are five key components that are addressed. They are: form, purpose, audience, language and context. The relationship between the audience and the advertisement is important because time is limited to capture the attention of the potential buyer and display the product that is being advertised. Repetition, association with celebrities and promotions are all techniques that are used to capture an audience.
In 2016, Specsavers launched a new advertisement called Fawlty Car, starring the famous British actor John Cleese from the classic TV show Fawlty Towers. The target audience was for the demographic of sixty plus; people with poor vision requiring spectacles. It promoted their 25% discount for over sixty year olds. In many advertisements, celebrities are used to sell many different products. When a celebrity is in a commercial it can influence customer purchases, build awareness around the product, attract new buyers and it can even bring new life to a failing brand. In the Specsavers advertisement, John Cleese was used because he is associated with Fawlty Towers, a hit TV show that over sixty year olds would relate to.

In both advertisements, a certain character is either embarrassed or does something wrong because they could not see clearly. When the audience views the advertisements, they see the character being embarrassed where John Cleese’s character Basil thinks the police car is his own and he starts hitting it with leaves and the elderly couple sit on the rollercoaster, thinking it’s a park bench. Both advertisements have this in common; if the couple had been wearing Specsavers glasses then they would have been able to see where they were sitting. In both advertisements, the company tries to persuade the audience to buy the product through the guilt factor. This technique in advertising is called
What captures the attention of people when they view an advertisement, commercial or poster? Is it the colors, a captivating phrase or the people pictured? While these are some of the elements often employed in advertising, we can look deeper and analyze the types of appeals that are utilized to draw attention to certain advertisements. The persuasive methods used can be classified into three modes. These modes are pathos, logos, and ethos. Pathos makes an appeal to emotions, logos appeals to logic or reason and ethos makes an appeal of character or credibility. Each appeal can give support to the message that is being promoted.
Nowadays, commercial is becoming a major part of mass media. It does not only try to inform people about the availability and attractiveness of industrial good productions but also contribute to build an awareness of resources and alternatives for customer in daily life. There are thousands of commercials, so to attract customer, advertisers use various kinds on their commercial to make people aware of the firm's products, services or brands. Though they use various kinds on the commercial, the main goal of advertising tries to convince customer to buy their products, or do what they want. An excellent commercial will create a deep impression on their customers, or who want to become their customers by using three classical appeals:
Another component that was aimed to be influenced was the viewing context. The target audience can relate to the scenes where there is the potential of someone who has been drinking with friends is going to drive drunk. The similar scenes allow the audience to attach themselves personally to the situation and attach to their emotions, meaning that they can empathise with the main character of the advertisement.
If you take notice of the clothing that the people in these advertisements are wearing than you will notice that their physical appearances are also contributing to the message that the advertisement is trying to convey. The images will make us look at ourselves and compare our physical appearances to theirs, which adds on to the guilt factor that the company is trying to make us feel. Everything that is going on in the image is adding on to the emotions that they want us to feel. The appearance of the people especially makes us feel that way. The writing on the image does that as well, it compares the cost of our luxuries and the cost of their necessities to live and puts It right there in front of our eyes.
My understanding of the ad’s audience impacted my analysis/explanation of the ad by helping me pinpoint the techniques used to indirectly persuade the consumer to buy the product. Knowing who the ad was aimed for allowed me to build a stronger connection between the advertising agencies and how they manipulated the consumer. For example, if their audience was first class people, then the techniques used were no eye contact, fancy backgrounds, and the absence of prices. Whereas if the ad’s audience were middle class Americans, then discounts were mentioned, additional adjectives, smiling, and eye contact. Therefore, recognizing the audience made it easier to figure out which techniques that appeal to the consumer were used.
The average person will watch approximately 2 million commercials throughout their lifetime. In this technologically driven environment, it’s the most effective method of appealing to an intended audience. However, there is a lot more to an advertisement than meets the eye. There are numerous methods being used in order to appeal to the audience. Corporations and businesses focus on rhetorical appeal when it comes to creating a successful advertisement.
Advertising is a form of communication used to encourage or persuade an audience to continue or take some new action. But when advertisers produce an ad, they have many different variables that come into play if they want to successfully persuade consumers. The first most important step they have to figure out is, what type of audience they are trying to target. They then create images and intend to appeal specifically to the values, hopes, and desires of that particular audience. This is why someone would rather pick the well-known Malboro cowboy ads over the new female cigarettes of Virginia Slims. Each of these ads targets a specific audience;
This brings me onto the next subject, appeals. Appeals are relating the audience with the product with a story and emotions. The positioning of the advertisements has to be put in spots where they will appeal to a certain audience. 40-50 year old males, teenagers etc. The can be a change from ugly to beautiful miraculously which would appeal to teenagers because at their age they are self-conscious. Statistics are also used to appeal to the audience. If the public hears statistics they are instantly drawn in. A perfect example of appealing to an audience is the notorious Nescafe advertisement. This consists of a man and woman who meet each other over a cup of Nescafe. There is emotion involved and this draws the audience in. There is a sequence of ads in this story and the audience is drawn in so much that when there is the nest sequence they are practically glued to the television to know how it ends. In thee and they get married, Of course every advertisement includes a cup of Nescafe but that’s what it’s there for

I think this commercial uses the category of Luxury, leisure and conspicuous consumption. This commercial uses the Extraordinary and excessive style type of persuasion because throughout the commercial the images were in slow motion.
Advertisements are structured in a way to appeal to consumers in one of four aspects: biological, emotional, rational, or social. We are going to use a biological appeal, as well as a rational appeal in our advertisements.
Marketing Communications, such as advertising, can inform, persuade, remind, reassure and ultimately differentiate one product from the next.
To stand out from the rest, companies enlist famous people to appear in their adverts or do voice overs. But these celebrities already earn thousands of pounds and, for example, Gary Lineker on the Walkers adverts is an ex footballer who probably wasn’t even allowed to eat the crisps when he was working is advertising a fatty food that is already famous and the money only goes to contributing towards his next sports car, surely the ridiculous amount of money spent on
It is unclear exactly who it is being marketed to, is it mafia members? Or could it be those who have had this situation happen to them already because that seems unlikely. The audience felt like it was lost on the production of the advertisement itself. A similar ad by the same company made a very good attack at the target audience. It involved a wife having an affair and the dog pulling away some curtains to show that there was an affair going with her while her understood husband was off at war. This shows that this company can create an effective and well-executed advertisement on all fronts. Not allowing the audience to be clear is a huge mistake in the advertising business. Not only does it confuse the viewer it can pull them out of the emotional response that was being obtained with all the other elements of the
