I have come to accept that I find satisfaction when I steer toward volunteer positions, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and advocacy groups that focus on improving quality of life and give a voice to different international groups. It is from this realization and from my remarkable experiences both with disfranchised women in the Republic of Georgia and with my experience volunteering at Bridge Refugee Services that I found my true calling: international social work. I’m driven to help those who are voiceless and to advocate for those who are misfortunate. The opportunity to pursue my Master’s Degree in Social Work at Boston will give me the chance to fulfil my passions.
I believe that Boston College is the best school for me to develop a more comprehensive understanding of our social welfare system and how it addresses people’s needs. I’m drawn to Boston’s Social work program for a number of reasons. Naturally, earning a degree from one of the country’s best Social Work schools is alluring in itself.

There, I took anthropology courses that sought to illuminate structures of inequality and power and their links to modern day poverty and political unrest. My courses looked at the interrelationship of post-colonial societies and how increased globalization, building off of these power structures, has augmented inequality and the welfare of these local groups. Despite my love of anthropology and its theories, I felt that it was missing an element of activism, something I feel social work has. I wanted to improve people’s lives, to make a change, so I began to volunteer more of my time to local humanitarian projects in between my undergraduate classes. Additionally, I served as an English as a Second Language (ESL) tutor to refugees through a refugee resettlement agency in a suburb of
Prior to being in graduate school I was not fully aware of all the opportunities and experiences in social work. I have since gained more knowledge of macro level opportunities in the field of social work, such as advocating for human rights, and social justice. I have also been presented with the chance to tackle tough policies that directly impacts clients that I have interacted with through my experience in social work. I plan to continue to identify weakness in various systems to promote social justice, and learn more ways to change social institutions to be more humane and

I would like to bring social justice to individual lives by advocating for equality and ensuring access to basic resources for the most underserved populations in our communities. I have been involved in community advocacy with different organizations for most of my adult life, and I have always believed that if there is a problem work talking about then there also are solutions worth exploring and implementing. I’ve had a long-term interest in the field of social work, however it was in 2008 that I decided this was the field for me. I had the opportunity to volunteer with the PeaceJam Foundation at a local conference; PeaceJam is an organization that works with 14 Nobel Peace Laureates to mentor youth, creating young leaders committed to positive change in themselves, their communities, and the world. The impact that I witnessed on the young incredible lives was a defining moment; I knew that I was going to pursue a Masters in Social Work; it feels like a calling rather than the unfulfilling office career I once pursued.
As long as I could remember, I always wanted to be in a public service. Watching shows about attorneys to therapist, I wanted to help those who could not help themselves. In high school I took law class that would change my views on being a attorney to being a psychologist. I realized before one can get into the court system, something had to stem from their childhood or traumatic incident with therapy one could avoid the justice system or rehabilitate. After community college I began working with children with mental and behavioral illnesses.
After I graduated from the University of California Santa Barbara I was unsure what my next step would be. Of course I was anxious since I did not have experience working nor did I excel in my undergrad studies however, I knew I needed to use my newly earned degree in a positive way. Fast forward, after working for two years, I have gained the skills, knowledge and values from my work experiences that have confirmed my desire to advance my education in the social work field. I currently have my own case load of clients as a case manager at a level 12 group home but it’s time to take the next step forward. I want to ultimately advance social justice and provide services to assist individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities.
I first became interested in social work in the fall of 2015. In this semester, I became very confused as I received my notice of declination to the nursing program. At this point, I did not know what I wanted to pursue my career in because, I was interested in becoming a nurse for a long time as I saw my cousin succeed in this field. I really wanted to follow in her footsteps. As weeks went by after receiving my declination, I started to become very upset with myself and did not think I had the potential to do what I wanted to.
My interest in the social work profession became apparent during the fall semester of my junior year when I was enrolled in Social Work 205 and sociology. I had finally found subjects that I thoroughly enjoyed and academically excelled in. The events and experiences in my past and the current activities in which I am involved, have helped me narrow my studies to solely social work and has took part in shaping my hopes and plans for my first entry-level position in my chosen career after receiving my degree from WKU.
I have been going to the Wayne County Community College for years, and I had not made up my mind on what I wanted to do, although I knew that I wanted to help people. After taking multiple classes in psychology and sociology, I knew that I would be happier taking the “social work” part of it and I would help many people since I had an interest. As a social worker, I am sure that I will make an impact on the lives of people. I will also advocate for social justice which will address many problems that people face as well as the use of different forms of treatment and intervention to help
Since a young age, I have had a natural ability to love and support others. Over time, I strengthened those traits through service and through building healthy, meaningful, collaborative relationships with people in the States and people abroad. I am inspired by global Social Work because it promotes human rights and social justice through a multinational lens, while building friendships and finding common ground with people abroad. I have faith you can create social change through demonstrating love and compassion for others, and I desire this humanity in a professional field. At my core, I believe in cultivating our human potential, and I care about making a difference in people's lives.

As an undergrad, I was known for my diligence in the lab and class, and I feel these skills transfer over well into both social work and to your program more specifically. While considering possible avenues for continued education, I felt the program’s objectives at Case Western Reserve University Mandel School were parallel with my own personal goals. The Mandel School is a highly recognized and accredited program that I believe would give me the best opportunity of meeting my goals in working in children youth and families, and the field education offered would help prepare me for the

Therefore, I believe by completing my master’s degree in social work I can help build a better world by providing care and services that is imperative and vital for survival. There have been many experiences that have influenced my goal to be a social worker. I have learned through personal and profession experience that helping people can have a huge impact.
My interest in social related courses dates back to my years in high school, where I started by being part of the school clubs and later on held a leadership position in my own class and another in one of the school’s biggest clubs, the Wildlife Club, both at the same time. Before I joined campus for my undergraduate degree, I had set my choice of courses in order of priority, in this case, Social Work Social Administration being top on my list because I felt the desire to enroll for that particular programme and explore more of it and today I can boldly say I am fulfilled. When I began my undergraduate program, I had the opportunity to be exposed to the full range of Social work courses, all of which tended to reinforce and solidify my intense interest in social work and its related concepts. I also had the opportunity to study a number of subjects in the other humanities, economics, social research among others and they were both enjoyable and enlightening, providing me with a new and different perspective on the world in which we live.
