Why skiing is better than Snowboarding
The battle between skiing and snowboarding has been going on for years. Many loyal skiers and boarders have fought for their style of shredding the powder. This controversial topic has torn many friendships apart. Snowboarding participation fell 4.5 percent during the last five years, while skiing grew 6.7 percent, according to the National Ski Areas Association. Skiing is better than snowboarding because skiing is much easier to learn, skiers have more agility, and skiing is much safer.

Skiing is Easier to learn
Skiing has been found to be easier for many people. One of the main reasons is it is very similar to other sports like; ice skating, rollerblading and running. The ability to balance on a …show more content…

This lift is however not as easily accessed by snowboarders. The snowboarder must unclip a binding and with one foot still fastened to the board move into position in a skateboard motion. The T- bar lift forces snowboarders to ride up the hill in a perpendicular position. This makes it impossible for a snowboarder to place the bar between his or her legs because it will make them off balance and if the snowboarder falls he or she has to go back to the beginning and try again.
Having Two Skis is Better Than One Snowboard
The physics of skiing and snowboarding are very similar. They both rely on a downwards pull from gravity. This pull is what turns the potential energy into kinetic energy. As a smooth surface (or two) pass over the snow a small amount of energy is lost to friction. The bottom of the skis or board zoom across the surface of the snow creating heat. The heat along with the weight bearing down on the snow melt some of the snow creating a film of water on the bottom of the surface. Some energy is also lost by through wind resistance of the riders silhouette.
These principles are similar between the two sports, but their biomechanics are far from the same. It is easier for an amateur skier to keep his center of mass tucked away safely between the skis, this helps to avoid falls even when turning. The snowboarder, on the other hand, has constantly to
