Immigrants and refugees have some similarities, and some differences. Immigrants and refugees have many similarities. Similarities are that they want a better life in a new country, they start working menial labor jobs, and there is a language barrier present while talking. Although there are similarities between them, there are also some differences. Some differences include immigrants choosing to leave, while refugees flee to get away as soon as possible. Some refugees also need to do illegal things like smuggling to survive. Last, some refugees may want to return home when situations become better in their home country. Even though immigrants and refugees are different in many way, and they are similar too, they are two different
The article, “Refugees: Who, Where, and Why” by Catherine Gevert is about different refugees in the world, where they are from and why they became refugees in the first place. The first concept the author talked about was, around the world, many refugees have had to flee, to escape to safety after being mistreated in their own country. Refugees are protected by law and given basic civil rights when going to different countries. Another key point she talks about is where these people are and in the article shows us that refugee camps are located throughout the world, but are not the best living conditions. Many refugees go here for asylum. Furthermore, some reasons people can become refugees are because of, war and “ethnic cleansing”, also known
Charlie Parker and other Bebop musicians played regularly at Minton’s Playhouse on 118th Street in Manhattan. They loved challenges. Kenny Clarke would drum with them. It is known that he changed the way he drummed in the 1930s because of how fast the tunes he played with the Teddy Hill band were. He couldn’t play quarter notes on the bass drum so he would keep the beat on the cymbal instead, which produced a lighter, more flexible way to play, and also allowed for the bass drum to be used for other rhythmic ideas. Hill was not fond of this new way of drumming so in 1940 he let Clarke go. Minton offered Clarke the job of running the music at Minton’s Playhouse. Clarke’s style was perfect for jam sessions and his combination of snare
Intro: Refugees face a far worse life than most people can imagine, and there is no easy way out for them. They first must get out of whatever dangerous place they are in, then travel long distances with almost no resources, and even if they do make it safely to the USA there is a chance they will be sent back or even put in jail. The refugee experience is defined by risks and belonging.
What do you think are the major differences between migrants and refugees in terms of their
Refugees are people who are forced to leave their home due to war, or natural disasters and try to start over by fleeing to a new country.Refugees are going through a lot, fleeing their homes, and having their lives turned inside out. For lots of families who are fleeing their country due to war or a natural disaster, it’s hard for them to adapt to their new lifestyle, learning a new language, new education, and bullies. Fleeing to America gives the refugees a fresh start in life, helps them to start over and more opportunities than they had in the country they fled from. “Children of War” “My graduation is next year, so I have to think about college...America is giving us a better future than we could have in Bosnia”(Brice-26).
Refugees are people who are fleeing violence and/or persecution and are looking for safety. Refugees are driven from their homes and communities by
After migration when they reach a safe country they do not know how to react. Many refugees suffer from depression and PTSD from witnessing the loss of their leaders or loved ones and even from witnessing mass killings, causing them to be distant and not make any effort to get help. They do not understand involvement in their community when they have reached a safe location. The refugee groups stay together and do not against each other fearing one will or could be killed. At refugee camps, many make the camp a big family from hearing and understanding other victims stories, creating bonds.
Refugees are individuals that are being forced to flee from their country of citizenship to another in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster. Western society tends to be judgmental towards people who do not look like their own and so it is very difficult for different cultures to be treated fairly. Recently, President Trump implemented a law that band Muslims, due to the stereotypically classifying them as terrorists. Muslims are being classified as others and treated very poorly due to their religious beliefs and instead, that should not be the case. In the media, Muslims are also portrayed poorly and they are seen as individuals coming to America to take over the country, when in fact they are just regular individuals seeking
Refugees started because of war and economic problems in their countries that force them out of their homes, and rob their children of having an educated life. Refugees tend to stay in refugee camps, but while staying in camps, they don’t have any job opportunities which makes it extremely hard to care for a family with zero income. In order to leave the camps for jobs, an education, and housing, their relatives have to get them and bring them to their country. All refugees that would like to leave the camp must have a visa.
If refugees were able come they would have a chance for a new life. Refugees are coming to America because of the wars going on in their country. These wars going on aren't just any war, this war is affecting kids as young as new borns with blood all over them, people's homes and childhood memories to ashes, and they have no where to go. If they came to America they wouldn't have to worry about their home being destroyed or their lives being in danger as the moment they open their eyes. An example of someones life changing when they came to America is Thafer Kashak and his family. Thafer Kashak works as an assistant chef at a restaurant that serves Middle Eastern food. They went
Cleopatra VII was one of the most popular and famous queens ever to rule Egypt. However, modern civilization remembers her so much differently than the clear depiction of reality. Shakespeare reimagined her romance with Mark Antony as a dramatic tragedy. Indeed it was, although that is all Cleopatra VII’s memory has come down to: an old play and several false films and novels. Society does not even remember her as the seventh Cleopatra in her family, just Cleopatra. But, if one dug under the surface, they would find her life was much more interesting than just some romantic yarn.
In both of these articles they talk about refugees. Some families had adjusted a new life after all the bad things that happened to them. When the refugees were being sent away, they felt queasy about where they were going. All the refugees thought they were going to get a document and be U.S. citizens. But they weren't, they were being sent to internment camps. And had to live there.
Over 300,000 refugees are waiting at the borders of our country waiting to be accepted into our country. My question is why. Why would our great country want to weaken ourselves by letting illnesses and terrorism into our country, especially when they did not help us in the past? The United States should not accept refugees because of many reasons including terrorism, stealing jobs from U.S citizens and bringing sickness and unknown illnesses into our country. Hundreds and hundreds of terrorist attacks have occurred in our country the only blameable menace are us letting in refugees in. Thousands of refugees are working immediately, and illnesses are spreading to Americans in our country as soon as these refugees enter our country. Knowing all of these issues is it really worth letting them in?
Let’s start by defining what it is to be a refugee. A refugee is any citizen of a nation who is forced to flee due to persecution or unsafe living conditions.
It is known that for many years there has been a fight whether to legalize marijuana for medical use or not. Many who are for it say that it is not addictive, hard to overdose on unlike other illegal drugs, and is very useful medicinal wise. These people do not have a problem with it and are actually in favor of legalizing it because they feel the benefits out way the disadvantages. Although, those who are against it say otherwise. They say that it is a “gateway” drug and not only will it lead to more hard core drugs, it also kills your brain cells. These people say that smoking marijuana turns one into an unproductive human because once they get hooked on it they will never want to do anything but smoke and will never get a job and become a member of society.
