“Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely” (Acton). Power is needed for a person to lead. Power comes in many shapes and forms and it affects both the mind and body. Main characters usually have the power but may lose it; villains want the power, so they do what they can to obtain it. Killing your brother and stealing his place in life is an interesting way to get what you want. No matter what events are thrown his way, Claudius is more worried about his appearance and reputation. “Alas, how shall this bloody deed be answer’d? It will be laid to us” (Shakespeare 4.1). Claudius’ first reaction was that this deed could reflect poorly on him, and not that Polonius was dead. Though murder is one of the worst things that a person could do, Claudius …show more content…
Run! Run! Run! Run! Run! Run! Run! Run! Run! Run Run away and never return” (Minkoff). Scar states that the others are not going to handle the news very well and that they will forever blame him, even though Simba was not the cause of the incident. Scar convinces Simba that Mufasa’s death was his fault and that he should feel ashamed just so Scar could take over the throne. Power can be used for good or evil; it depends on who holds it. Simba and Hamlet have to gain the power back from the evil characters who hold it. “Do not forget to do it. This visitation is but to whet thy almost blunted purpose” (Shakespeare 3.4). The ghost tries to show Hamlet that there is more to the situation than he realizes and he has to do something to right the wrongs. Claudius tries to do what he can to send Hamlet away so there is no influence on the Queen and she would just blindly follow her newfound husband. Hamlet has to do whatever it takes to stop Claudius. “Look inside yourself, Simba. You are more than what you have become. You must take your place in the Circle of Life” (Minkoff). Mufasa reminds Simba of his birthright and helps him to realize that the path he is on will not lead him to where he is meant to
He also cripples the land to which his family is living. For example, the movie starts out by Mufasa who is virtuous, revealing that the reality of the animal kingdom is in a subtle balance of animal and plant life. Subsequently an equitable and a decent king is aware and respects this truth. When Scar assumes control over the kingdom, everything changes for the worst since Scar has no reverence at all
Born as the heir of King Ahadi and Queen Uru, Mufasa was a courageous lion who ruled over The Pride Land. After the birth of his son; Mufasa, began teaching Simba about the circle of life, training him to take his place as king. As a result, his jealous younger brother; Scar, hatches a scheme to over throw him and rule his kingdom. Once it's discovered that Scar missed Simbas's presentation ceremony; Mufasa, enters the lion's den in order to chastise his brother for his insolence. As the king continues to scold his brother, Scar turns his back and walks away, stating he might attack Mufasa if he turned his back on him. A few months later, Mufasa travels to the Pride Lands to show Simba around his kingdom. As the pair continue their journey,
Run! Run! “ Jem screamed…. From somewhere nearby came scuffling, kicking sounds, sounds of shoes and flushed scraping dirt and roots. Someone rolled against me and I felt Jem.
Claudius and Scar, driven by ambition and greed, bring chaos and despair to their respective realms. The exploration of political intrigue and the theme of the corrupt leader resonate in both works, providing a timeless commentary on power and its potential for abuse. Character Parallels :.. The characters of Hamlet and Simba share intriguing similarities, highlighting universal archetypes that resonate across cultures and time periods. Hamlet, the brooding and introspective prince, mirrors Simba's initial reluctance to accept his destiny.
Rafiki teaches him that, "you can either run from the past, or learn from it." This statement is important because Simba needed to put the death of his father behind him instead of running from it. Simba realizes he needs to return to his rightful place as king. The struggles he knows he must face are regaining his kingdom and defeating Scar.
Mufasa was the brother that was more extroverted, he had the throne, the strength, and all the good looks. Throughout the scenes in the movie you could see Mufasa had a personality of someone that was a strong, proud, and the dominant ruler of his kingdom. He was willing to protect his kingdom prepared to fight when he thought Scar had challenged him. He did all of that until his death, dying when recusing Simba from the stampede of wildebeest. He puts his trust into his brother who very easily betrayed him. Scar was the more introverted brother, he was much smarter than Mufasa, but didn’t have the looks, and his longing for the throne made him very deceptive. He produced the plan to at first kill his nephew, and then his brother. The first plan to kill Simba was by tricking him into going out into the elephant graveyard to be attacked and eaten by the hyenas. When that didn’t work he came up with the plan to kill Mufasa by not actually having to do it himself, giving the hyenas instructions when to create the stampede in which he had placed Simba right down in the middle of, knowing Mufasa would try to save him, because that is his son. These two brothers were very different Scar had a dark side going on while Mufasa was more of the bright light. One could say the message is that it it is brawn over brains which gets you money, power, and respect in the world we are living in
While most family genres avoid death, this film showcases the death scene of Mufasa, who was murdered by Scar. This makes the audience feel relatable towards the film as death is a natural part of life. Another real life situation is the guilt of Simba. Scar blamed Simba for the death of his father, and Simba feeling tremendous guilt, runs away from home. He lets his guilt eat him up, and that made him incapable of returning home to face his family.
As you may know, both protagonists come from a royal family. Simba is the son of Mufasa, the leader of the lions, and Hamlet is the son of King Hamlet, making him the prince of Denmark. Scar and Claudius, the evil uncles, have cause a horrid act upon their families by murdering their own brother causing the protagonists to be sent away. The reason Hamlet was sent away, was because Claudius wanted to kill Hamlet:
Simba at last can reclaim his position of authority. He likewise gets the regard and acumen on improving as a ruler on account of his trustworthiness and the will of facing up the results when he concedes that he was the person who slaughtered Mufasa when it was Scar who murdered him.

At the beginning of the film the camera angle looks up towards him, the lights shine on young Simba; the importance of his birth is immense, although Simba may be oblivious to the fact at the time. Another parallel is the fact that both Simba and Hamlet at one stage wish to be dead. When Timon and Pumbaa find him, they believe Simba to be dead when they first find him. He is not – but wishes to be. The same could be said about Hamlet when he questions his life – “To be, or not to be”. Like Hamlet, Simba tends to need to be on his own to reflect. Hamlet and Simba are near perfect examples of tragic heroes. Both are tested to the extent of their inner strength and faith in the triumph of good.
Mufasa cautions Simba to prepare for the day when he will take over the Pride Lands. As years pass by Simba returns to the Pride Lands seeing it’s in horrible condition, he decides his obligation is taking his rightful place as the
