In addition, leadership is the aptitude to earn respect with the means of acceptable actions. In other words, a leader must possess au fait moral and ethical principles and is actively involved with his or her subordinates. With the purpose to acquire valuable knowledge and experience, to become a good leader you must learn how to be a good follower. Several leaders have influenced me during my career, all in a different ways. There are two occurrences that have impacted me the most. The first one was after returning from confinement for a violation I had committed; my new supervisor came to me and pulled me to the side and said, “I do not know what you did and I do not care what happened in the past; What matters now is that if you do what you suppose to do, I will back you up. Today is day one for us!” The impact of this conversation was that it changed my point of view about the way I perceived my change of command. The second …show more content…
The three behavioral aspects I need to improve are all within the challenging area of the behavioral aspects. First, I need to push myself to go out and look for new challenges in order to expose my potential. Second, I need to go to people and guarantee them the fact that they too have to become explorers of their true potential by exposing themselves to new challenges and responsibilities. Lastly, to go out and take risks. This last one is true since I am a very conservative person when risks are on hand. If I see a risk, I look for other ways to go around and accomplishing the task. The need to become more daring is important because taking risk is a quality often desired in
Leadership can mean something different to everyone. To me leadership encompasses many things. Leadership is being able to motivate others to achieve. Leadership is listening to what others have to say and acting on it. Leadership is using interpersonal skills to communicate with others. Leadership is being a good example to others.

Leadership is all about having the right amount of heart and determination to help make a difference in someone’s life. It takes certain qualities to be considered a good leader. A leader should want to help inspire others to make a change and to be the best that they can be. A true leader does not need to feel powerful, instead they empower those around them. Throughout my life I have come across various leaders who have made an impact on my life. It takes a very special person to inspire and touch people’s lives. Leadership is so much deeper than having power and bossing people around.
A person who has had a very positive influence in my life was my very first Scout Master while I was in Boy Scouts. His name was Glen Long. He taught me many things about Boy Scouts, but this is not what makes him an influential person to me. Many people believe that to be a leader you must be strict and demanding. This is not the case, however. Mr. Long showed me many was in how to be a leader, but how to lead with the help of others. He taught me that no good leader leads on his or her own. He also put me in many different situations to get me out of my comfort zone because he said "a person never grows if they are always comfortable." He did this while being fun and starting a very personable relationship with me. He also taught
According to Webster’s Dictionary, leadership is the power or ability to lead other people, the act or instance of leading. I believe that Leadership is an art, the art to get others to follow and accomplish a common goal or task in a harmonic manner. A leader can be shown in all kinds of shapes and forms. To be a great leader many people believe it consists of modeling the way, inspiring a shared vision, enabling others to act, and encouraging the heart. Over the course of me learning how to become a better leader and being in leadership roles, I’ve learned that all these are very necessary to be a great leader.
Arguably, there are countless different definitions of leaders in the world, and my experience brought me in contact with countless worthy people who excel as examples of this. Consequently, by utilizing the abundant case studies over the last 28 years of my career, I formed the following definition of what a leader is: A morally grounded individual who meets all challenges with an infectious excitement which others wish to emulate. This drive inspires allegiance to this individual, mostly without a formal request to follow. The members just choose to assist this individual in meeting the desired results without a need for the accolades of a successful result.
Some people are born leaders, others must work hard to become a great leader. As long as they put in the work, anybody can become a great leader. There are different types of leaders. Whether you have good or bad ones you will always learn something from them. You take from the good leaders what they did right to add in your style, but the bad ones influence you to not act like they did. This way your Soldiers only learn good habits from you.
Leadership is the leading of a group or organisation. Without leaders, there would be no order or control in the world. A leader demonstrates these qualities; loyalty, clear ambition, having well communication, and a sense of responsibility. Leadership is to be valued in life.
The Introversion, Intuition, Thinking, and Feeling (INTP) personality type revealed some strengths and weaknesses in my leadership personality style. For instance, this type of personality suggests limitations on my being able to “follow-through” as a leader. For this reason, I need to work on my skills to ensure that following-through on our schools initiatives is not taken seriously due to my limitations of personality.
My idea of leadership is being able to inspire others, motivate, set a vision, communicate, respect others, and of course, lead by example. A leader must have an honest understanding of who they are, what they know, and what they are capable of. To be a successful leader, you have to be able to convince your followers, not just yourself or your superiors, that you are worthy of being followed. In my opinion, this can build confidence in their followers to have faith in you, in order to be able to lead. I strongly believe that good leaders are made rather, and not born. If you have the desire and willpower, you can become an effective leader. Good leaders are developed through a never ending process of self-study, education, training, and
Leadership is an approach for a leader to guide, motivate, supervise, manage, and influence others in different situation to reach a goal. According to the Pettinger (2007), the leadership can be explained in several situations. First, the leaders have the responsible to provide vision and direction to the followers. Leadership is a process of leading a group of people in achieving a common goal. Leaders, leading the team, are highly motivated, organized, creative, trustworthy individuals who are capable of influencing others with long-term vision and goals. According to the Lussier & Achua (2010), there is no universal definition of leadership because leadership is complex, and because leadership is studied in different ways that require different definitions. Leadership is the influencing process of leaders and followers to achieve organizational objectives through change. Leadership always occurs in a group and focuses on achieving a common goal. Leadership requires lots of characteristics among which eagerness; creativity and never-ending desire to find something new or learn something new are the most important one.
According to Janda (1960), leadership is a term defined as a scientific discipline of power relationships where group members believe that other members of their group has the right to prescribe a particular behavior to others (Janda, 1960, p. 345-346). However, leadership is the consequence of the interaction of interpersonal relationships between members of a group that obey willingly and not forced to do so under pressure (Ivanova, Zivkovic, & Ivanov, 2011, p. 12756). Despite the contrary, most definitions of leadership differ in many respects; most reflect the assumption of a process that intentionally influences the guidance, facilitation and structured relationships of people in groups or organizations. Leadership theories uncover and identify key characteristics of leadership that exhibit a framework of charismatic traits and qualities that articulate a vision (Judge, Woolf, Hurst, & Livingston, 2006, p. 204).
No single definition is able to encompass the complex idea of leadership. (Stogdill ,1974) “Leadership is the initiation and maintenance of structure in expectation and interaction” (p.411). Leadership is a word that has many meanings and can be interpreted in many different ways. The role of the leader is very important in an educational environment. Common ideas of leadership are leading people, influencing people, commanding people and guiding people.
Leadership is defined as the ability to accomplish a set goal(s) due to the act of inspiring and motivating a group of your peers. Former United States president Dwight D. Eisenhower made famous a quote that stated, “Leadership consists of nothing but taking responsibility for everything that goes wrong and giving your subordinates credit for everything that goes well.” (Notable-quotes.com). One of the most important aspects of the work area is leadership. Without leadership, there will be no guidance to for teamwork and the percentage of successful goal will be slim to none. Becoming a great leader is no easy feat however. An exceptional leader must lock in on specific attributes such as intellect, moral character, and human
