In the United States before the war had even begun there was already an economic struggle happening people living in poverty, there being a lack of supplies, and segregation occurring in 1945. People suffering from this and the country as well because they didn’t have enough resources to be able to provide for the war if they had no supplies.
manpower. It is not that we do not have enough people in this country to do the job. The
During the WWII era minority groups experienced some positive and negative economic changes. Before the war, the people in the United States had to experience the Great Depression. This was a time of poverty, starvation, and ultimate hardships. During the war,
During World War II there was many hardships and opportunities that groups of Americans had to experience through the War. Some opportunities that American groups had to offer was to get a job, fight for their country, and to fight for freedom. Most Americans did not have as many opportunities because they had to deal with hardships. Lots of the hardships were that they had to deal with racism, men going to war, and wages for women.
In World War II, all different races served in the military branches all over the world. There was a lot of racism going on throughout this period, with any race, but especially at this time it was happening with African Americans. African Americans struggled to be able to fight for their rights just to be able to protect their country. There are a lot of significant things concerning race that happened during WWII. Even though, the WWII did have a higher rate of blacks who had enlisted into the military. They still had segregated the troops not even just that it was their social life, church services, different functions; they were all segregated from each other. Earlier in the war, black soldiers
Money was needed to keep the factory still operating. Prices went higher than ever, while the wages for the factory workers went lower. Not only was it bad enough that workers didn't get too much money for their monthly pays, but it was bad enough that inflation got worse and some people could not even afford the basic necessities such as shelter, food, drinks and clothing. People starved and died, it is a very depressing time now were someone can work hard all day long and not be able to afford food to live. Millions of people had died during the war, and many materials used for the war got destroyed.
During World War II, minority race in America contributed to the war and joined the army. Their efforts in economy and labor force are obvious; however, society did not show much respect on their effort. Therefore, different race group had spoke publicly to challenge racism and discrimination in society. Such action had also caught to attention the of the United States government and decided to take progress on civil rights movement. It has not benefit citizens in the States, but proven United States of America as a country who make their promise to the world.
With the belief that they were superior in patriotism, many people alienated minorities during World War II. In terms of the military ranking and task, many minorities were restricted. Many Chinese Canadians were not accepted into the air force or navy. The Japanese Canadians were considered “enemies” and were subjected to many hate crimes during the given time. They were also often turned down when applying for a position in the Canadian armed forces, and deemed unfit. This was highly based on a perspective of generalization and prejudice. Additionally, racism played a part in the
The financial state of household was affected when the war came. Lyndon Johnson then started a “war on poverty”, which was a unofficial name for legislation first introduced by United States president Lyndon Johnson. He did this through his programs called “Great Society.” The goal for the great society was to eliminate poverty and racial injustice. He did all of this while the war was escalating.
As I see in the cartoons, there were race issues going on with blacks and jews being slaved by someone who discriminates against employees. In the I”ll Run Democracy, 1942 picture the man told them to stay in there Jim Crow tanks. Jim Crow laws were state and local laws enforcing racial segregation. The laws let discrimination and segregation keeps blacks and jews from getting jobs. In the other two pictures Listen Maestro and German Manicure you see Uncle Sam telling the war industry to keep making the blacks and whites work together to create a good sound. which came in context when he told him to keep playing them. The German Manicure picture showed Sam going to get his hand cut off by the U.S. Nazis and Anti semitism means they don’t like jews. All of this was going on internally that led to these other issues.
As war spread across Europe in 1914-1918, black Americans saw a second opportunity in which they could use the war to their advantage, in securing the respect of their white neighbours. This contemporary conflict brought about great controversy within the black community, being asked to fight for a democracy on behalf of a country in which they did not receive equal treatment. Many activists did support the war effort, including DuBois announcing ‘while the war lasts [blacks] must forget [their] special grievances … fight shoulder to shoulder with white fellow citizens… For democracy’ (Heinze, 2003). Paradoxically, when it came to the drafting of the volunteers, blacks came under a total polarization of customary discriminatory practice. Blacks were instructed to tear corners of their registry cards, thus becoming easily identified, to be inducted separately to white volunteers. (Murray, 1971). Now, under usual circumstances, the Black citizens would be turned away, the war office began doing all they could within their power to bring them into service, and surprisingly, this was most common among the Southern boards, demonstrated by the Confederate army during the civil war. The army established a more progressive attitude toward race relations than mainland America, by the end of 1917, African Americans served in cavalry, infantry, medical and engineer positions. The war allowed for the black Americans to begin asserting their citizenship, protesting racial injustice on
While the emancipation proclamation was created to mainly announce the solidarity of the Union against slavery, it also became a symbol of hope for black people, who for many years were subjected to the maltreatment and prejudices by their fellow man. This was evident in the inequalities of black soldiers within the Union army, in which it was still commonly complacent during the Civil War. The Union’s practices of denying black soldiers the opportunity of a commission as an officer, paying them less than their fellow white counterparts, allowing them to face harsher treatment as prisoners of war and most profoundly was the segregation of black soldiers from the rest of the Army; were just a few incidents that gave proof that African Americans were still not considered an equal.
World War II was a very important event in American history, but as bad as war is or seems to be there always seems to have better outcomes in the end. By the Japanese bombing Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 and bringing America into the war it opened the eyes of all Americans to the problems not only domestically but internationally and the biggest problem that was discovered after the completion of World War II was the level of social equality around the world. It had been a problem that had plagued the world for many years but the atrocities that brought about by the war coupled with the ever growing eye of the media caused for greater concern in the light of social equality in the world.
The time period of 1939 to 1945 was a very devastating time for a lot of individuals especially American’s. During this time frame the world was involved in the crisis called World War ll. World Warll had a large negative impact on America’s economy as a whole it affected America’s financial status greatly, American soldiers also suffered a large variety of mental as well as physical health issues during and after World War 2, and many American’s lost their lives for the cause. The major decision to go into war all began on December 7, 1941 when the Japanese forces bombed
After the war, the regions that were involved found themselves being in financial constraint. This is because they had used all their resources in purchasing the war weapons. As a result, the spending by the government of the day during that time exceeded the country’s income. This meant poverty to the country and its citizens. Also, the rate of unemployment among citizens was rampant leading to widespread poverty.
In fact, the United States had enjoyed an extended period of economic expansion during the war, and following the war the U.S. economy continued with great strength for more than a decade. Life in America, consequently, was arguably better than it had ever been. The middle class had swelled, unemployment rates were some of the lowest in history, and the “American Dream” was for many families a reality.
