In this book, Ron Clark discusses very important qualities that a teacher should have. He stated very good facts and points. After reading his text, it really made me sit back and think about what kind of teacher I wanted to be and what kind of qualities I thought it was important for a teacher to possess. The three qualities that stood out the most to me were balance, confidence and humor.
I believe that balance is such an important quality in a teacher. As teachers, we are constantly having to balance things. Teachers have to balance time, lessons, family life, school responsibilities, etc. Teachers are constantly in a balancing act. Clark talks about balancing in when it comes to instruction style. In the first section he talks about the

Clark writes, "Half of the battle in raising kids is teaching them to be confident." (p. 150) Confidence has always been a huge thing for me and is a quality that I find very important. I have always been confident and I have found that most of my confidence stems from my parents. In this chapter Clark points out that unfortunately, not all students have parents that are so supportive. He talks in this chapter about finding potential for greatness in each child and tapping into it. Without the reinforcement, often times children don't believe in themselves and their abilities. Each child deserves to be confident and believe in themselves. He writes, "The more these kids experience, the more self-esteem they will have and the better they will feel about themselves. I don't want my students to be twenty two years old, go to a job interview, be qualified for the job, but not get the position because they don't know how to hold themselves in a certain way and present themselves in a manner that is professional." (p. 152) Clark continues on in this chapter by talking about how confidence comes with preparation. By preparing students with the tools they need for success, you are making them more confident in their own personal abilities. Preparation is the key to success. It is teachers job to prepare students for success and greatness. Clark writes, "As teachers and parents we have the freedom to lift up children and make them feel special. We …show more content…
Sometimes it can be hard to remember that children do not see and understand humor in the same way we do. As teachers, we have to remember what it is like to be young and try to understand the humor that children see. Laughter can be a mask for not knowing what kind of emotion to display or being uncomfortable. From reading this chapter; I was also able to reflect on the boundaries of humor. As teachers you have to understand what are appropriate boundaries for humor. Humor can be a great way to connect with students, but it should never be at the expense of someone else. "Picking on" or "poking fun" at a student may seem like fun and games, but it can definitely affect the student even if it does not appear to. Clark talks about how students usually laugh this off, but only because they do not know how to respond. It is important to make sure that the humor is not hurting or embarrassing anyone. Humor should only be used positively, not
Outstanding teachers posses the following skills and or attributes: The ability to adapt to any changes that may occur, The cognitive skills to think quickly and logically, The virtue of patience to handle the repeating of information for those students who may not catch on quickly and finally The passion of teaching others to be better learners and the ability to listen and analyze the emotional, physical, and mental state of the students . Truly good educators remember that the image they exude is the example that is set forth for their students. A teacher provides high expectations for the students as well as his or her self to creates a positive atmosphere.
1. In The First Day of School, by Harry and Rosemary Wong, Wong states that the three characteristics of an effective teacher are that a teacher “has positive expectations for student success”, “Is an extremely good classroom manager”, and “knows how to design lessons for student mastery”. The first characteristic essentially means that an effective teacher needs to believe that her students can and will learn.
A fellow educator would hear these answers as examples of the teacher’s ability to engage students in every lesson, her desire for all students to succeed, and her competence in subject matter. Although an outstanding educator exudes many other characteristics, these three qualities are essential for one to be considered an outstanding, high-quality teacher.
The next important factor in a child’s education is confidence within him/her. Guidance counselor, Beatrice Javian has seen for the past 42 years that confidence can either make or break a child’s education. Javian explains “Students that have confidence and believe in themselves do very well in school. Now I am not saying they get straight A’s, but I can tell you this I do see a great deal improvement in their body language and how they present themselves in a classroom. And that is the greatest reward a student can get.” In the reading, Alexie proves that confidence does help a great deal and makes you driving for learning more thrilling. Alexie declares “I refused to fail. I was smart. I was arrogant. I was lucky…. I was trying to save my life.”(pg. 75)
Without our teachers, none of us would academically be where we are today. They have made it possible for each and every one of us to excel in and out of the classroom. They have taught us to be better students by teaching us what it means to have grit, zest, social intelligence, self-control, gratitude, curiosity, and optimism. Along with the seven character traits, our teachers have also taught us to be safe, respectful, and responsible students. Although, the most valuable lesson our teachers have taught us is to do our best no matter what.
What is the best quality for a teacher to have? Mr. Rutter had the best qualities for a teacher. One of the things I liked about Mr. Rutter was how he teached. He teached in a way that made sense to me. He also made sure that you were paying attention. So if you weren’t then he would throw ping pong balls, and markers at you. When he teached he made learning fun. He made a ton of funny jokes about what we would be learning at the time. Another thing, I liked about him is that me and him are a lot alike. A couple of things that are alike is we both have a great sense of humor. Secondly, is that we both love sports. Lastly, Mr. Rutter is my neighbor, so he lived just a street over from me. Additionally, with him being my neighbor
There are three distinct qualities that I believe all excellent teachers should possess these are, passion, collaboration, and adaptability.
There are numerous attributes an outstanding teacher exhibits inside and outside of the classroom. Inside the classroom, a teacher is able to offer a positive learning environment, deliver instruction effectively, be fair, and be able to monitor and adjust right away. Outside of the classroom, a teacher actively participates in the community, is an influential teammate, receptive to reinforcement, is an exceptional role model, and is available for communication to parents.
Teacher qualities and responsibilities to children and their families. The five qualities all teachers share are they are nurturer, observer, faciliator, and an inquisitor. Teacher’s nurture children by caring for children and encourage their growth and development.

While there are many ways to be an outstanding teacher, every high-quality teacher should, in my opinion, have these skills and dispositions:
Confident children are usually winners, and even if they fail in something, they can quickly get back on their feet after failure.
Teaching is a difficult occupation. Teachers play an important part in training children, teenagers… So, a good teacher must have some special qualities. They are: knowledge, creation, confidence, empathy, sense of humor and passion.
In this first unit of The First Days of School, Harry Wong presents three characteristics of an effective teacher. The three characteristics are: has good classroom management skills, teaches for mastery, and has positive expectations for student success.
Every child has the capability to learn and grow. My desire as an educator is to create a safe and challenging learning environment in which my students can grow not only academically, but also emotionally and socially. One of my core beliefs is that if children believe in their own abilities and have self-confidence then they will have the mindset needed to face and conquer challenges. Nothing will be able to stop them. This semester I worked with a little girl who believed because of the color of her skin that she could not learn. This was a first-grade baby. She broke my heart, but also at the same time renewed my passion to make every child know that he or she matters. I will create a positive atmosphere that cultivates self-efficacy. A classroom should be a stimulating environment that offers many hands-on learning opportunities. I support Jean Piaget’s theory of constructivism in which children learn best by doing
