Courage is the ability to do something that frightens one and be strong even if it is hard. In the novel Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, Mildred Taylor uses Cassie Logan to explain how life and the world was back then through the stories her grandma had told her when she was little. Cassie proves that she has courage by standing up for her little brother, standing up to Mr. Burnett, and helps TJ even though he is a convicted criminal. Cassie has also proved that she is a sassy little brat sometime. She also proved that she can do anything even if she might get in trouble. Without courage, our lives would be full of meanness, hurtful words, bullies, and people who don’t know how to stand up to those they get taunted by. In life, being courageous means you have to stand up for your convictions and beliefs. In the novel Roll Of Thunder, Hear My Cry written by Mildred D. Taylor, Stacey consistently shows gigantic amounts of courage throughout the book. Stacey shows how courageous he was when he chased after T.J. to find the truth for his mom; when he confronted T.J. about his lying and tells the kids he wouldn’t stand for it; and when Stacey stays behind during the big explosion of violence at the end of the book. The events all demonstrate Stacey’s courage and willingness to help his family.
Standing up for what you believe in isn’t always easy, but if you have the courage, you can do anything you put your mind to. Throughout the book, “Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry”, by Mildred D. Taylor, I feel that Cassie Logan showed the most courage. Even though she didn’t quite understand why her family was treated the way they were, she knew it wasn’t right. She showed courage when she stood up to Mr. Barnett, when she stood up to Miz Crocker because the “new books” were dirty, and also when she had to stand up to Lillian Jean. For a girl Cassie’s age, she had a deep respect for not only herself, but also the others around her.
She was upset about what had happened there and was angry that she was treated so unfairly. At the moment, she was kicking at the sidewalk with her head bowed. It was then when she bumped into Lillian Jean Simms. “‘Well apologize’, she ordered. ‘… ‘Okay’ I said starting past, ‘I’m sorry.’, ‘That ain’t enough, get down on the road. … You can’t watch where you’re going , get in the road. Maybe that way you won’t be bumping into decent white folks with your nasty little self’ ” (Taylor 113-114) . Cassie was hot, and her stubbornness and pride did not help. Mr Simms told her that if his gal, Lillian Jean asks for Cassie to get down on the sidewalk, she had to. Out of anger and hate, Mr. Simms, like Lillian Jean, ordered Cassie to apologize immediately. Cassie refused and argued that she had already apologized. She did not want to get down on the road for a crime as small as bumping into a white person. Then, in the heat of the argument, as if on cue, Big Ma came. Cassie was relieved. She expected Big Ma to stand up for her and for them to have eachother’s backs in the fight. However, Big Ma did the opposite, she did the unthinkable. She made her apologize. “‘ Big Ma!’ I balked. ‘Say it child.’ … A painful tear slid down my cheek and my lips trembled, ‘ I'm sorry M-Miz Lillian Jean’ ’’( Taylor 115). Even if Cassie lost this battle, she still stood up for herself, and as fearless and brave. It is impossible to

Her family and all African Americans are treated unfairly because of the color of their skin. She stands up for her convictions and doesn’t change her convictions. She showed courage when she stood up to Mrs. Crocker, Lillian Jean, and Mr. Barnett at the mercantile. She had a lot of things that she didn’t understand at the time.

He is a segregated 12 year old boy in 7th grade with very brown hair and wide eyes that you can tell from anywhere. Stacy's makes very courageous and strong choices made him look like her cared for what he wanted and cared for his family.. He has done many courageous acts like stopping the bus from getting himself and his brothers and sisters including his really good friend from a very long friendship T.J., sometimes Stacey and T.J. have their ups and downs the one incident Stacey has to get on to T.J. for cheating on the big exam in their class
