The students at some point have to show courage, if someone is being bullied, mistreated, or just sad. Courage is showing bravery and just doing what's right. In Mildred Taylorś book, Roll of Thunder Hear my Cry. Stacey has to show courage, when he took the blame for T.J. cheating.. Stacey also had to show courage by, coming up with the idea of digging the trench, and Stacey got everyone involved with the idea of digging the trench, for the bus to fall in.
Stacey shows courage by taking the blame for T.J.’s cheat sheet, and gets punished.
When Stacey takes the blame for T.J.’s cheat sheet, he shows courage because T.J. was going to get into big trouble and Stacey didn’t want T.J. to get into trouble so what Stacey done was….
Stacey took the blame for T.J.’s cheat sheet. In my opinion, Stacey showed a big amount of courage when that happened. On page 60-61 in Chapter 4, it says “T.J. turned back to Stacey. “You ready for that history test?” “Hope so,” said Stacey. “But I keep forgetting them dates.” “Betcha I could help ya, if you be nice.” “How? You worse than I am ‘bout dates.” T.J. grinned, then slyly pulled a folded sheet of paper from his pocket and handed it to Stacey.
Stacey unfolded it, looked at it curiously, then frowned. “You planning on cheating?” “Well, naw, I

“What’s everybody waiting ‘round for?” “And where’s Stacey?” demanded Little Man. Little WIllie smiled. “Stacey inside with Miz Logan. He got whipped today.” “Whipped!” I cried. “Why, can’t nobody whip Stacey. Who done it?” “Your Mama,” laughed Little WIllie. “Mama!” Christopher-John, Little Man, and I exclaimed. “Why’d Mama do that?” asked Christopher-John. “She caught him with cheat notes during the history examination.” So, as the book said Stacey took the blame for a big deal, Stacey didn’t care if he got in trouble. Stacey was just wanting to make sure T.J. didn’t get in trouble. Stacey took and showed a big sign of courage in Chapter
While T.J. is insolent and rude towards Stacey, Jeremy deeply cares for him and his family. For example, this quote takes place when Jeremy comes to Stacey's house on Christmas day to deliver gifts to him and his family. On page 155, the text states, "Jeremy, who had heard, flushed a deep red and quickly handed Mama a small burlap bag.
Papa is in danger when he goes to get Stacey because the mob might get mad at Papa and kill him, hurt him, take him away etc. On page 255 it says that the men wanted to hang not only T.J. but Mr. Morrison and Papa too. This shows that if Papa goes after Stacey and is caught he could be hung. This also shows how much Papa cares about Stacey to risk himself for Stacey. This is why Papa is in danger when he goes to get Stacey. Papa might have gotten in deep trouble when he gets Stacey.
ole T.J. wasn’t ‘bout to say them cheat notes was his.” Stacey was being courageous by not telling om T.J. and letting Mama whip him. When school ended, Stacey went after T.J. at the Wallace store and got into a fight Mr. Morrison had to break
Also, Stacey is looking out for his syballing, while T.J is being reckless. T.J didn’t study so he brought cheat notes and then passed them to Stacey. The author wrote,”She caught him with cheat notes during the history examination”(page 81). This shows that T.J is very irresponsible and framed
During the climax of the book, the beating of the Averys, Stacey stayed behind to watch the violent scene while the Logan kids went safely back home to their parents. According to the text, “Stacey whispered “ you take Little Man and Christopher John and y’all-” (Taylor,253). Even though Stacey got cut off he was going to tell the kids to go home, and that he would stay there and keep watch of what was going on between the white and the blacks, which was extremely courageous. The text also says, “Papa spun around suddenly. “Gotta get him out of there,” he said, moving quicker than I had thought possible with his bad leg.” (Taylor,259). This shows how worried Stacey’s parents were about him being close to all the fighting, which shows how courageous he was to be there. Stacey’s bravery further proves that being courageous, means you have to stand up for your convictions and
sayed some very negative things about Mama (On a accident). T.J. got mama fired because he went yappen his joules to the wrong people the Wallaces. Mama got fired because the school board and Mr.Granger came and saw that Mama was not teaching from the book and the book pasted over with paper. Stacey did not want to talk to T.J. because of what he did to Mama because Mama found T.J. cheating with cheat note on a test and Mama failed him. “Mama, her back straight and her eyes fixed on the men, answered, ‘Because all that’s in that book isn’t true.” (p.g 184) This quote means that Mama shows courage because she wasn’t afraid to talk back to the white men. Stacey could showed courage for Mama by he stop being friends with T.J., and Stacey could have stayed friends with T.J. but he would be taking T.J. side in stead of
Standing up for what you believe in isn’t always easy, but if you have the courage, you can do anything you put your mind to. Throughout the book, “Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry”, by Mildred D. Taylor, I feel that Cassie Logan showed the most courage. Even though she didn’t quite understand why her family was treated the way they were, she knew it wasn’t right. She showed courage when she stood up to Mr. Barnett, when she stood up to Miz Crocker because the “new books” were dirty, and also when she had to stand up to Lillian Jean. For a girl Cassie’s age, she had a deep respect for not only herself, but also the others around her.
At the beginning of Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry (a book about racist plantation owners in Mississippi in 1933, where races were segregated) by Mildred D. Taylor, TJ and Stacey were friends. Then, TJ became friends with RW and Melvin. They stole a pistol and TJ was arrested. This is where the book ends. I think TJ is manipulative because he is dishonest to his teachers, persuasive to his friends, and easily controlled by RW and Melvin.
The main problem that Stacey had was he let too many things people said get to his head. When Uncle Hammer, Papa’s brother, came down from Chicago for Christmas he brought many gifts. One of those gifts was a new wool coat for Stacey. Uncle Hammer gave the Christmas present earlier, Stacey went to church wearing the new coat. When T.J. saw Stacey he called him a fat preacher.
TJ gets himself in trouble with R.W. and Melvin Simms, two white brothers. The boys only want TJ around so they have someone to put the blame on and make fun of him. When TJ wants a very nice handgun at the Barnett Mercantile, the Simms brothers fool him into thinking that his dream is about to come true. RW and Melvin convinced TJ to try to steal the gun. They were caught in the act and the brothers punished TJ horribly. TJ tapped on the Logans door in the middle of the night. Stacey and Cassie answered the door. They knew they had to help him despite the negative acts against their family. “Stacey? I whispered afraid of what he might do. As far back as I could remember, Stacey had felt a responsibility for TJ I had never really understood why. Perhaps he felt that even a person as despicable as TJ needed someone he could call “friend”, or perhaps he sensed TJ’s vulnerability better than TJ did himself. Stacey, you ain’t goin’ are you?... You go on back to bed Cassie. I’ll be alright.” (pg. 249) This quote is a prime example of Stacey’s courage. Stacey knows that helping TJ could get him in trouble or even killed. Stacey is a true friend, and a brave one too.
It takes courage to stand up for your convictions. All thought the novel, Roll of Thunder Hear my Cry, Mildred taylor wrote about her family and their past. Cassie proves her courage by fighting Lillian Jean, standing up for Little Man. Cassie shows who she was in this novel when she is not treated equally and that she loves are family. Cassie proves that she is willing to fight for “equality” in the world around her.
found something we wanted he did whatever it took to achieve it. T.J. talked about how everybody's “good day” was relevant; “if I’m The Tao Jones, a good day is when I lock onto whatever I’m passionate about and pursue it with abandon” (56). At the time one of his passions was to have the swim team be successful and for all of them to get letter jackets, which in the end was accomplished. Throughout the book, his passion had always been helping people, whether that be his swim team, Heidi and her family, or even the swim team’s manager. When T.J. first meet Icko he was permanently living at All Night Fitness, because he could not afford a home after paying for his son’s college. All T.J. could do at the time was find him and wake him up so that he wouldn’t get caught, but then he got him a job managing the swim team, and by the end of the book he was able to find him a permanent place to live, when his mom “invited Icko to build living quarters on the edge of our property” (219). Without T.J. this living situation would have never occurred, and even though, at the time he felt what he was doing for this man was minimal, it turned out that he played a part in changing the way he was living. It didn’t matter what it was, if it was worth fighting for T.J. dedicated his life to doing
“Look smartass, I don’t make stupid decisions anymore, so maybe you should stop before someone else kills you out on the field.” Atticus smiled sarcastically at the boy. He nodded his head vigorously before grabbing his bag and running out of the locker room. Atticus let out a frustrated sigh, not because of the boy. Just the fact that people are starting to realize what Atticus did a year ago when he was twenty. He ran his fingers through his greasy hair. “You aren’t the boy anymore Atticus. You will not make stupid choices and you’ll protect everyone you can. It was just an accident, remember. You swear it wasn’t meant for her, that wasn’t Cassie’s fate. It was just an accident.” Atticus repeated that in his head constantly when someone would bring her up. He grabbed his supplies and headed towards the showers to have his thoughts and dirt washed
Courage means to me is to stand up for your Convictions, and not lose it. Throughout the book “Roll of Thunder Hear my Cry” by Mildred D. Taylor, a young courageous girl named Cassie Logan has gone through quite a bit in this book, such as getting switched on the first day of school, not getting to ride the bus because of her skin color, and T.J. getting into some trouble. All of those things are hard on Cassie. There is so much more that has happened to her but those are the three main ones that we're a big impact on her life. Cassie was a very strong and courageous girl.
Caseworker Jessica, spoke with Ja’Kevion on 10/19/17, and he said that he was on punishment for 3 months because his sister did not have on panties and he was falsely accused of pulling her panties down. Reporter visited the family on 11/16/17 and mom (Marion) informed stated that Ja’Kevion was messing with his sister and brother. Mom told the reporter she went into the living room and Ja’Kevion was at the table. She had left her daughter in the room and when she went back to the room she notice the cover looked messed up and it was high. She pulled the cover back and her daughter panties and pants were pulled down. Mom asked the child why her clothes were down and she did not want to admit what happen to her. It took her a while to answer and she said Ja’Kevion pulled her clothes down and he was messing with her. Reporter
