When school ended in May, I expected to have a nice laid back summer. I was excited to finally be able to sleep late and hang out with my friends whenever I wanted. I wanted to either be a Registered Nurse or Physical Therapist. I and two other students were the only ones to pass the interview. We would then have a lunch break from 12 P.M. to 1 P.M. and then meet at Zwolle High School with Mr. Eaves for the classroom part of the program. Our days usually ended at about 3:30 P.M. I did not enjoy waking up early at first but I soon got over it.
The first day I was with Blake Langton, the radiologist, he taught me how to read x-rays and how to position the person in order to get the best pictures of their legs, arms, or torsos. He made me call all of the patients back and put their information into the computers. I especially enjoyed working with him not only because it was interesting, but because he was cute as well. The other girls agreed with me. To have only been on my feet for three hours, I was already

This particular nurse practitioner (NP), Diana Hayes, seems like somebody who has done this job for decades; in reality she obtained her acute care NP (ACNP) degree in 2014, less than 2 years ago and got her advanced practice license in Tennessee the same year. Her current role working as an intensivist NP in the trauma unit at Vanderbilt Medical Center is part of a recently launched program that brought NPs into the care of the sickest patients in the hospital.
Miss Judy is the Quality Assurance /staff educator/infection control nurse at the skilled nursing facility where I work. What is most fascinating and admirable about Miss Judy is that, she has 3 job descriptions that she manages to multitask on a daily basis. I really commend her for what she does because I have seen her work relentlessly in a dependable manner. She is a nurse leader I greatly admire and aspire to be like.
According to my interviewee, the Master’s graduate program as compared to the undergraduate program was more challenging but yet rewarding. This was attributed to the fact that she had a strong passion for informatics and wanted to obtain a higher level of education.
Transitioning from nursing school to working in a hospital setting can be a challenging time for a new graduate. Due to the nursing shortage, new graduate nurses are being hired with little to no experience. This is overwhelming for new nurses, especially when they are not getting adequate support or training from the hospital. The amount of stress, pressure, and lack of training is leading to a high turnover rate for new graduate nurses. With patient acuity on the rise, new graduate nurses that are filling these vacancies in the hospitals, need to be competent nurses to provide proper and safe care to the patients.

The nurse I chose to interview has been a family friend for a while, as she has worked closely with my mother for several years. She is the first nurse I met when I decided I was interested in going into the nursing field, and she is actually the person who encouraged me to apply to Truman State University’s nursing program. I was confident that she would be able to share her capacity of nursing knowledge and wisdom with me when I asked if I could interview her. I will expand on our interview which took place in her office at work throughout the next couple of pages, and to keep confidentiality, I will allude to her by her initials, J.W.
In the interview the question about any advice she wanted to offer was asked, with a big smile on her face, I am sure, she responded that the field is “wide open” ("Nursing Informatics as a Career," 2011) she continued on to say, if you are a self-starter it
