DESCRIPTION During my clinical placement, I have done the nursing standard 2 which is engaging in therapeutic and professional relationships. An example of one event in my placement where I have done this standard is when doing interviews in my two-week community placement at the Community Rehabilitation in Armadale Hospital. For my reflection, I will be using the Gibbs’ Reflective Cycle (1988). FEELINGS I am normally a very shy person so when we were told that we were to do interviews on the first day of my community placement I felt scared. I did not know how to approach people confidently let alone do an interview. I knew I could do it but I was not confident enough. I was already feeling overwhelmed because it was my first time to be placed in a hospital. EVALUATION The good thing in my experience would be that I got to have the experience of doing interviews and I actually enjoyed it. I also gained more confidence in interacting with my patients. The not so good thing would be that I have gained confidence in talking to my patients but not the staff or the people I was working with. I was still very shy in communicating with them. ANALYSIS I have learnt to do interviews during my placement. Because I took that step out of my comfort zone I believe that I have learnt a lot. I have learnt to take a step out of my shell and try. I have learnt that it is not worth getting worked up over doing interviews and talking to people, as it will be a major part of my
In the beginning of the interview I was very nerve in doing this because I haven’t done something like this before. I didn’t know what to expect
1. This first clinic was a little intimidating. I mostly just shadowed some an older student today while he was interviewing patients. I felt like we have been well prepared to see patients though IPE and the standardized patients, however, knowing that these were real patients made it feel much different. Knowing that the patients had real problems and not knowing what to expect at first was the most anxious part.
As I walked in everyone was very kind, each person had a smile and I was helped to be directed to Victoria. This made me feel confident about observing the therapists. There were other students observing as well, we had to sit on the second floor and observe from up there. Its understandable to be seated upstairs because the therapy for each patient is very delicate and it would have been
Everything that I am currently learning from my senior clinics is helping me improve on skills that I still need to work on. Seeing my mentor perform the skills ill be doing anytime soon, gives me an introduction on what to expect. The experiences that I am gaining are going to help me become a great hygienist in my future. Learning how to gain great interproximal skills is an important skill that will help me work well with others along with my patients.
INTERVIEWS: Interviews are usually taken for people when they are looking for jobs or looking places in college and universities. There are many advantages of interviews, one being that they will be able to get good information and some data, also they will develop their communication skills too when talking to the other individual. However there are also many weaknesses such as, time consuming, the person being interviewed could be lying and also the questions may not be clear. Another weakness is that there could be a language barrier between the two
I also learned that interviewing can be a powerful tool. It is imperative to include as many perspectives as possible in order to successfully change an organization. These interviews provide individual insight as to the current state of the establishment, as well as provides many possible solutions to common problems. Through interviewing we were able to note common trends in information to provide a more complete solution to the overall problem.
I’ve been in many different job interviews. Including the Georgina Leisure Pool. Where I applied for a Lifeguard, and Swim instructor position. I’ve also had an interview with Swiss Chalet where I applied for a waitressing position. Going into the interviews I was a bit nervous I’ve never been good at interviews, and pool interview was my first job ever. When I came to the interview at Swiss Chalet I was more hesitant then the pool interview because it was a new experience from me working in the food and beverage industry. I wasn’t sure of the questions that were going to be asked, and how I would respond to them.
Not only did I learn about the job and what it consists of, I learned about different diagnoses and ways to cope and address different situations surrounding them that I can use in my personal life. Talking with Dr. Plemmer and finding information to use in the ADHD group helped me realize I really am able to use my diagnosis to help others that may be struggling to accept and acknowledge the positive side of ADHD not just the complications and negative aspects.
In this interviewing process, I was able to see some of the best aspects of the surroundings I might be working in some day. There are so many places this job can take you, and interviewing people from those places gives me an idea of where I or someone in this career might go. For instance, I was able to interview two people at AIM Home Health that worked in different environments such as outpatient, and one that did some home health as well as outpatient. The other person I had the pleasure to interview was a PT worked strictly home health with one PTA under him. One common thing that they all loved was their job and that’s so important when you are looking to go into a workplace. This is something that I value very highly and truly believe that if you love what you do for work, you never actually work a single day in your life.
My field placement experience means so much to me. The placement started, theoretically with the interview. I was nervous about it, as it was the most important interview I have had to go to. I ensured that I dressed or the occasion, in smart attire and prepared some insight into the agency Acces Employment. The interview went really well, Harpreet Shah, one of the agency staff, gave me a short presentation and the interview was more informal than I expected. My first experience of an interview for a field placement was nerve racking, but from it I learnt a few things such as preparation is key, to talk in a calm, polite but confident manner and to ensure that you absorb all the information that the interviewee is giving thus allowing you to
The first six weeks of the nursing program has forced me to turn myself inside out and examine/analyze a lot about my way of life. It has forced me to look deeply into my communication and listening skills. I have learned many different ways to deal with situations and problems that may arise with my impersonal and Intrapersonal relationships. I’ve been trying out different skills with my roommate and trying to really understand what we do in class by actually doing it. I have always found it hard to express myself if I thought I would hurt someone or that a confrontation may arise. But I am now more aware of different ways to handle conversations so that I express myself fully ant the outcome is wondrous and successful. - author unknown
In beginning of class when I learned that we would be doing interviews I was dreading it. I have done interviews before and it felt the same as giving a presentation in front of the entire class. I had no real knowledge of what the proper way to hold an interview was let alone as a social worker. I know I wasn’t going to be given real interviews and I would be doing the interviews along with my group made up of fellow classmates but they felt as real as they could get. But gradually over the sessions it became easier and I felt more confident about how to conduct the interview. Having the practice even mock interviews became a great way for me to learn how to have an interview and make sure I know what I am doing. Which is a
I like the aspect that I got to in a way be apart of that even though if it were giving water to a patient or restocking supplies, I know that even the smallest things help out the patients and the overall healthcare facility in providing the best care for their patients. Furthermore, I liked how patients would ask if I was a nurse already. Overall I liked the experience that the medical field provided for me I got to see almost every aspect of healthcare, from nursing to surgery, or providing medical care such as therapy. I even got to experience health management, before going into the clinical rotations I did not know that the medical field
On positive is that I want to try new activities that are less used. I feel like some of the patients has to do about the thing almost every time for therapy. I spent time going through the cabinets to find what all we could use. There was this old checker board that I found and used with a few of the patients. It was not used in a while as some of the therapy practitioners said that they forgot we even had that! I hope I can make people’s therapy session less monotonous. Another positive that I believe I possess is my kindness and caring personality. One lady was complaining about her legs being so dry and couldn’t reach them even though she had lotion. I applied the lotion to her legs as she was doing a tabletop activity. Then another time I wheeled someone to play bingo at the activity hall. However, the bingo person was not there (even though it was on the activity board). I stayed passed the time and played a board game with her because she was bored. I know I cannot go out of my way for everybody (productivity and such), but it means a lot to the residents.
I did my mock interview on Thursday at 10:30 with Hallie Rathbun a career staff member at the career services center. I was very nervous because I have never done it before. I practiced answering the questions that I found on the website with my roommates and Karen Student United Association club adviser to help prepare me for the interview. I tried to relax as much as I could before the interview.
