When I registered for this course I did not know what to expect from the title of the class – Arts and Sciences in the Workplace. In my opinion, the information and material I obtained within the span of two months was exceptionally helpful. Without hesitation, I recommend this course to anyone who may feel they need to brush up on their professionalism. Individuals who are undecided in which major to select could find this course useful. Overall, the materials I inserted in my portfolio are representations of concepts I felt that would best benefit me in the professional world. The reflections in my portfolio not only assisted my general understanding of adulthood, but influenced my perception of who I am as an individual. A majority of the topics I reflected on were categorized in the “Personal Development” section. The most beneficial aspect that assisted me the most was taking advantage of more opportunities, analytically researching and spending the time to get to realize the different aspects about me. I certainly feel more confident in becoming a productive employee in the workplace. When I decided to take the Saboteur test there were no specific expectations I had for this assessment. It turns out that our mind has saboteurs of their own. Consequently, we struggle with them on a daily basis. However, individuals are different. Therefore, each individual is fighting his or her own saboteurs. My results shocked me and proved to be an eye-opener
Looking at the insight from historians such as: Roy Rosenzweig, Nick Salvatore, and Lizabeth Cohen, on the history of American labor, we can better understand the issues, challenges, and successes of ordinary Americans during a time when industrial capitalism and corporations took over as the leading principle in American society. The depth of character of immigrants or ordinary Americans to meet the demanding needs of what an industrial society requires is truly amazing. I have reviewed three historical monographs in accordance to their copyright and each describe how persistent ordinary, working class Americans confronted or beat back those demanding needs. The order is as follows: Eight Hours For What We Will by Roy Rosenzweig; Eugene
I am currently a student at the University of Texas at San Antonio for almost a whole semester now. I came to this school straight out of high school, not knowing what I was getting myself into. During my high school years, I was good at every subject except my writing class. Coming to UTSA, I knew I was going to struggle in my writing class, but that didn’t discourage me from not trying my best in the course. Going through the English program, I realized that I have some strengths and weaknesses in the class, and it encouraged me to do better. The essays I have written for this class demonstrate that I have developed a strong thesis, organization skills, and detail; however, I still need to improve on grammar, keeping the POV, and citing.
A transformative leader is a leader who can bring about influential change in others. These leaders not only transform essential change, they change the way we think and act. Transformative leaders create practices and processes in organizations proactively. In addition, transformative leaders can be found at different levels in an organization. They can hold the title ranging from supervisor to executive director. This essay primarily focuses on the challenges faced by the Training & Development (T&D) Specialist, who is capable of
In review of the Capstone course and creating the Integrative Knowledge Portfolio (Professional Portfolio), the experience had has been very insightful and thought-provoking. The ability to create something revolved around both my personal and professional experiences not only allows reflection but also a sense of appreciation for the experiences I have had up to this point.
In 2013, an estimated 24.6 million Americans aged twelve or older (9.4% of the population) had used an illicit drug in the past month (NIDA, 2015). In 2016, about 3.6 million adults aged 18 or older received any substance use treatment in the past year, representing 1.5 percent of adults (SAMHSA, 2017). These numbers are not even taking into account any type of behavior addiction such as shopping, gambling, social media, etc. Strong of these numbers, as counselors we can see the importance to gain knowledge about drug and behavior addiction and its process. In order to have a better understanding of the process of change, we have been assigned to abstain from a substance or a behavior for a period of 15 weeks and to reflect about it.
With the help of this course and the internship, I found a lot of changes in my behavior, feeling, and thinking. I always use to think that knowledge and academic skills were sufficient to do any task. Now I discovered that in addition to practical skills, you also require a proper solid plan and process to make any assumptions, along with understanding the importance of collaboration and working with a team.
During the presentation, the team adapted the demonstration method inside of welcoming, did not perform encouragement for the audience to join the movie night and help out the charity. The plain slides style did not provide secure engagement and visual appeal. Ticketing system explanation was made
Though the modern world is very sympathetic to the concept of human rights issues, death penalty as a form of capital punishment has still been in practice in the world. During 2001, at least 3048 people were executed in 31 countries as well as at least 5265 people were sentenced to death in 68 countries. It is very interesting to see that some advanced countries, which are pioneer to the protection and promotion of human rights and also very vocal to the human rights situation in the developing world, do impose death penalty, even on children.
Media is an extremely popular tool of communication this most of the world use often. Media has many different forms that makes it easy for people to gain access to it. Media can be seen on used on internet site such as twitter and news websites, on television, radio, and newspapers. The public doesn’t have to look very hard to get in contact with some form of media. Media can be a powerful tool because of the involvement it has when many people’s lives. This is common knowledge though, the people working in media knows the influence it has on others and take advantage of that. People use the media to corrupt others, make money, and persuade the world to believe what they embed in their heads. Many examples of this had been done throughout history. It occurs during commercial ads when companies talk highly of their product/service in order to sell it, or companies will talk down on another company’s product to make theirs’ seem more appealing. This practice of corruption was used a lot during the 2016 presidential election. Media influenced or even brain washed most Americans into voting for the candidate that they embedded into their mind.
Social work education enables professionals to explain and define clients’ experiences, problems, and issues. The levels are micro, mezzo, and macro. For example, the micro level consists of age, gender, income, health, spirituality, emotions, and cognitions. The mezzo level includes neighbors, co-workers, local economy, resources, church, family, and work. The macro level refers to politics, economics, community, culture values, history, government services and resources, discrimination, and oppression (Rogers, 2016). Social workers use these levels to conceptualize clients’ problems (Rogers, 2016). These external analysis, overlaps and interact with each
This past semester in Modern III, I have found different things about myself in terms of shifting my movement vocabulary into something new. The somatic work in the beginning of class has allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and experience something new. Imagination has been a key factor in this. Three different goals that I have been working on this past semester have been keeping my abdominals engaged, my ribs to soften always, and allowing my transitions to flow smoother. As I mentioned in my midterm self-evaluation, I believe that I have come a far way from the beginning in the semester until now.
According to the Keirsey Temperament workbook, my combined values make me a guardian. My knowledge, experience, dedication, authority, and reliability are strengths that make me a great leader. I choose to manage the recycling yard, public, and staff like any great manager would. In order for me to manage efficiently, I would like to improve a few things. I find myself to be very easy going, abrupt, and shy, and have come to realize these attributes hold me back. Aside from the areas that need improvement, the effectiveness of my strengths creates a healthy and enjoyable work environment.

The human identity provides individuals with a sense of self, and by examining one’s identity, questions such as “Who am I?” and “What is my background?” can be asked. While both questions don’t fully allow one to recognize who they truly are, they provide a useful starting point. Additionally, as one ages and experiences what life has to offer, the puzzle of one’s identity can be pieced together. Though the events of life have the potential to reinforce one with a positive sense of identity, they can do the opposite as well. When children are bullied, they feel worthless, for their identities are treated as such; conversely, when an individual is promoted at work, their identity as a hard worker is commended. In summary, our actions and
During the duration of this course and the numerous discussions initiated in lecture, I have been able to utilize the concepts proposed in class to further my intellectual development and thinking. While many concepts have been discussed in class, the topic of secondary witnessing was the one I could relate to the most. Just like Art Spiegelman, I am a second-generation witness to my father's life post-Vietnam war. I am a part of the generation that will continue to transmit my father's war stories to future generations. I am witness to the Vietnam war in terms of how it affected survivors, such as my father, even though I didn't live through that experience myself, tying in the concept of post-memory as well.
