When I first began high school I never thought that I would be ready for college or the life beyond high school. College is the time when I have to start constructing my bridge to success, and its fate depends on my decisions. My goal was to succeed in my major, which is pharmacy so I could help society as well as repaying the people who helped me along the way. What inspired me to further my education in pharmacy were the classes I took in high school. As a freshman I was a timid boy who was clueless about what he will going to do in the future; opposing that was the same boy as a junior where he had to start making decisions. I took biology as a freshman, and chemistry as a junior; that was then I made the connection if I like those subjects I should major in something that is in those fields. …show more content…
Most of the classes I took were fairly simple as a freshman, however the exams proved to be more of a challenge. For example: my algebra class was easy because we were only required to memorize small pieces of information at a time, but the final exam was all the topics merged together. I was cursed with short term memory and could not apply what I had learned. I did not receive the grade I desired for the algebra regents; I scored nothing compared to what I usually received in class, which was very disappointing. As for my track life, I was not very athletic and did not try very hard; I took multiple breaks and never gave my best
As a young boy, I never truly put much into school. I put as little thought about college as well, but it took one moment that made me want the desire to succeed in my life and make something of it. Working for 12 straight hours in the middle of the hot sun, making minimum wage wasn't how I wanted to live. Going to multiple jobs and having to work all weekend, even during school occasionally was extremely difficult. This just gave me that extra drive to be more superior than anyone else. Yet, I never gave up and still pushed to be the best student I could be. Staying up late nights just to finish homework so I was able to make the best grade in class. The simplest moments in life made we want to be the best
In the article, “What Is College For? (Part 2)” written by Gary Gutting we see a description of his ideal vision to improve education and the intellectual culture of our citizens. Mr. Gutting emphasizes that preparing students for employment should be the job of the elementary, middle and high school rather than college. He argues that higher education is basically unnecessary for the practice of many professions.
Sophomore year, I joined my High School's division of Kiwanis Key Club. The club prided itself with their devotion to community service. I thought that the club would be a great vehicle for me to assist my community while creating and expanding my relationships. However, I was greatly disappointed in the club my Sophomore year. There appeared to be little leadership present, so hardly any community service successfully took place. I made it my goal to gain a leadership position and turn the club around. Junior year, I was elected as President of the club and was re-elected to the position my Senior year.
According to the Denise Grady, the minority groups have often been overlooked when it comes to clinical trials for diseases like cancer, it is because the most number of people who receive the experimental treatment are often white and to find a black American being considered for such treatment is rare. Mr. Jones who the advances in immunotherapy have saved his life is viewed as an outlier since he has received this treatment despite being African American. According to Grady, the first study on this disparity showed in 582 patients with lung cancer, 92% of those enlisted for the experimental drugs were whites, 3% were African-American, 3% were Asian, and the rest were the other groups. While
“As many as one in three first-year students won't make it back for sophomore year” (“Freshmen retention rate”). It just so happened that I followed that statistic. Many colleges do not care much if students drop out or flunk out once their tuition checks have been cashed (Los Angeles Times).Growing up in a very strict household and attending private Catholic school, I was ready to spread my wings and fly. I was looking forward to that independence, my own rules and living on my own. I was enthusiastic to get started on my college journey. In my mind, I was about to live the dream. I would experience my own place to live, no rules, and get to hang out with friends! Oh, and college, too. I was not prepared to be so distracted
Writing is the ability to express yourself and to communicate with others. College writing courses strive to provide students with the ability to do this. In the following quote, AOur greatest multicultural resource, one that is authentic, rich, and truly diverse,@ Maxine Hairston, is obviously speaking about today=s student. How can we give all students who have different values, language, and cultural background the ability to express themselves, to communicate, and to contribute in significant ways to the relationship with others locally and globally? Do we strictly emphasize correct grammar and usage? Do we focus on critical thinking skills or personal expression? I am sure that this has obviously been a very
Let me ask you a question. Have you ever been questioned about your dream career, or what you want to achieve as an adult, or even now. Chances are you have, but, did you ever take the time to really think about that question and finally distinguish that you want to be an Astronaut or a Surgeon or maybe even a Scientist? Well, if you did then there’s almost no doubt that you’ll need to attend college to acquire the certain level of skills you need to become that person that you dream to be. Obtaining a college degree will almost guarantee that more and more opportunities will come knocking on your door because a college degree is a stepping stone to success and companies and businesses are very much aware of that. Success is what people are looking for and a degree verifies that you qualify to achieve great things. Oh, and did I forget to mention that that vast majority of people with a college degree make a lot more money than people with just a High School diploma or being a High School drop out for that matter. However, aside from qualifying for an immeasurable amount of career options, a College education has shown to help with communicating with others, which might not just help with job benefits, but also with relationships on another level.

In today’s modern society, college signifies much more than just pursuing a two or four year degree. According to Krystek (2010), the Great Pyramid of Giza is “the only one of the famous "Seven Wonders of the Ancient World" that still stands.” The Great Pyramid of Giza, which was built around 2550BC for the pharaoh Khufu, is archaeological evidence of the political, economic and religious power of the pharaoh and the importance of religion in the Old Kingdom of Ancient Egypt. The ability of the pharaoh Khufu to organise and control the large workforce necessary to build the Great Pyramid is an indication of his political power. Through the construction of the Great Pyramid, the pharaoh and the people of Egypt were economically benefited. The importance of the afterlife to Egyptian society and the notion of the pharaoh being partly divine is also demonstrated through the Great Pyramid.
The evidence provided by the summative assessments demonstrates that about 19/25 students have meet the objective goal. The majority of students met the objective goals for this unit but could definitely improve. According to data, they are able to construct a college ready response using relevant topic sentences, context, evidence and analysis. 18/25 students receive a perfect score when it came to paragraph construction and maintaining a coherent paragraph while 5 students received 3/4 and only 2 students did not meet proficiency. In addition, the data also demonstrates that most of my students can infer and construct a thematic claim and support it with evidence from the text using class handouts, class discussions and the text.
As a high school senior, I spent all year searching for a compatible college that fits my requirements. I wanted a college that is affordable, so when I graduate I am not stuck with a massive debt. I wanted a campus that is has friendly people and feels like home. Finally, the college must provide me with the right skills to start my career. With those three standards in mind, I narrowed my choices to one perfect college.

Success in college is meant to be a challenge. Earning a college degree proves to potential employers the recipient has not only a higher education, but also the self-discipline and maturity to overcome the obstacles standing in the path of his or her success. Many of the challenges faced in college are universal shared by the majority of students while others can be personal or unique to an individual’s specific situation. Personal obstacles are the most difficult to overcome. A person can always seek advice, but in the end, the ability to overcome each obstacle rests on their shoulders alone. I will face many obstacles while attending college. Having a poor educational foundation, finances, and family life will make college success an uphill battle that I am determined to win.
I think that I can get in to the habit of finishing my work and then after wards rewarding myself by watch one episode of a tv show or spending fifteen minutes checking social media. On making sure I get in my first choice college I figure I could look at the requirments needed in order to get accepted and make sure I have the necesary grades to get
