Police Application Narrative

My goal’s I attend to achieve in pursuing a certificate in Basic Law Enforcement are primarily to make an impact in the community. Furthermore, I enjoy the various jobs that Law Enforcement has to offer. Last reason, would be to be part of an exclusive organization that I can be proud of. My past experiences in my work history have been mostly related to customer service, problem solving, and interpersonal skills. I also have interacted with plentiful of people, on many different social levels and many diverse cultures.

The police report ((Crash Report Number/Agency Case Number 16-238828) (Report Date 9/6/2016) has numerous inconsistencies and beginning with the license plate. The police report stated that my dad’s license plate was a “Veteran Plate” when in fact it was a “Patriot” plate depicting an American Bald Eagle, the New Mexico flag, and the U.S. flag. The second contradiction was the color of my father 2014 Kia Sedona, which in the report stated that it was “Silver”, the true color of the van is “Silverstone Beige”. The van was more beige than

A Field Training Officer (FTO), Rutledge (Author), is on patrol with a patrol officer. He has to type his first police report and is not doing a good job. His officer was disappointed at what he had read in his report; he’s going to show the rookie how it’s done. The officer’s report was not only 50% longer, but full of jargon. The rookie cop stated, “Why do we write like that?” “Because that’s the way we’ve always done it,” replied the officer. After years of being a cop and writing real police reports, Rutledge became a prosecutor. After numerous trails, Rutledge was still boggled at the way police reports were written. Finding a career in which you feel personally rewarded by helping others and knowing that you are making a difference should be one’s main goal. Officer Mares, was able to achieve this goal when he joined the LAPD as a police undercover agent back in 1996 when he was only 21 ½ years old. Nineteen years later, he is going strong, satisfactorily performing his duties as an officer and serving the community of Los Angeles. He feels rewarded, with this career and loves his schedule, and he is happy when he goes to work. He focuses on knowing that he is making a difference one person at a time. He states, “ I may not change the world, but I am making a difference one individual at a time, which in turn makes a better community for our kids to grow in.” (Mares) Back in the days, around 1960 being a police officer or becoming part of a department that served and protected the public was highly regarded. However, that is no longer the case. Now the Police Department is an affiliation you almost do not want to be involved in.

On October 13th, 1982, at approximately 1:15 a.m. the neighbors of Queenie Volupides had reported that Queenie tore out of the house after an argument with her husband, Arthur. She quickly got in her Mustang convertible and sped away. Queenie stated that she went to the couple’s country club for a party that was going on to celebrate the opening of the new golfing range. But I believe this was just the beginning of her scheme. I affirm that Queenie has murdered her husband Arthur. (Claim)

As a Sunnyside Police Explorer, I learned about teamwork and matured emotionally. I was able to job shadow police officers and attend a leadership academy. I had the opportunity to work with 12 team members to make sure each of us were aware of the expectations,

Growing up is exciting and very scary. Being young is fun while it last but eventually everyone has to grow and go in to the working field. Law enforcement has been a big topic whether it be bad or good things said the law enforcement is always brought up. When I was young I took a fast interest in business. The moment I decided I wanted to be a cop was when I met my dad’s best friend that was a cop, and businessman. All any person wants in a career is to make a decent living and do something that they enjoy doing. I’ve always enjoyed helping people that needed help, the Kansas career pipeline let me take some surveys and showed me that I enjoy helping people more than I enjoy building myself something, which I believe that is true.

In order to apply the understandings of Industrial and Organization Psychology within the workplace, I interviewed retired police officer Jasmine Bird and her position in the Internal Affairs Bureau (IAB) as an officer of the New York City Police Department (NYPD). She was chosen for the interview because she is a 15 year veteran with massive experience within the department. The NYPD is the biggest department in the country with over 35 thousand officers. Officers are trained paramilitary, meaning they adhere to the rules and regulations as that of the military. This paper will show four different police departments that are currently hiring or recruiting for police officers. There will be a summary on the research found on the process used to recruit police officers. It will also show their current hiring trends and what hiring practices they have that are successful or not successful. The paper will also go over the different methods departments use to train their new officers and their values.

As a civil servant of the city of New York, I am pleased to have the responsibility to serve the public. I would like to continue serving the community by working as a NYC Police Officer, while at the same time enhancing my education by obtaining a NYPD scholarship with the concentration in urban policy. New York City is known for its ethnic and cultural diversity. I have witnessed how this influences many aspects of the environment and my personal experience has also shown me the prominent role that education and communication play in serving our community.

Have you ever been pulled over by a police officer? It is a nerve-wracking incident where you question what you were doing. Why were you pulled over? Was it due to speeding, or failing to obey basic laws of the road? Or, is it something else, like your race, appearance, or other reasons that should not result in a traffic stop? On average, an individual of color is thirty-one percent more likely to be pulled over by a police officer compared to a white individual. Black individuals are also about twenty-three percent more likely to pulled over than a Hispanic individual (Ingraham). By these statistics from 2011, it is reasonable not only to conclude but also infer that police specifically target black individuals. Think about it, many police-related incidents broadcasted on a news channel involves a police officer pulling over a black individual for a traffic violation, and the incident escalating from there. Even though different people drive differently, police target black individuals when it comes to traffic violations. Police are more likely to pull over a black individual and search their vehicle than any other race. Racial profiling being performed by police is an easy subject to have a viewpoint on but is not discussed enough.

For as long as I can remember I have wanted to be a police officer. I’m sure, as a little boy, what first caught my attention were the flashing lights and sirens on the police cars. It could have also been then the facts that police officer were permitted to carry a gun and had the ability to run red lights. This is why as I grew up and played games like cops and robbers, I was always the police officer. On Sunday, November 5, 2017 at approximately 7:26 AM, I, Officer Raul Marrero and Ryan Holroyd were dispatched to 820 SE 9th Ct, in reference to a suspicious vehicle complaint. Dispatch advised of a white Pontiac car that was parked in the driveway. The complainant/homeowner, James Robert Caves Sr., didn 't know who the vehicle belonged to.

My first interviewee officers jack Davidson, patrolman from Somers point police department. When interviewing Patrolman Davidson, I found the following to be his impressions of the police force in general. Officer Davidson spoke of why ethics and character are important in the field of law enforcement. His response was that ethics and character go hand in hand. In law enforcement it seems that there are so many reasons to do the right thing.
