Hello Ms. Carey,
I was able to talk with Rachel Azucena few minutes ago, she said that she did not know the term plagiarism, so I explained why plagiarism is bad and has consequences. The idea of a report is to demonstrate that she read the book and that she is able to express (in this case in Spanish) her own understanding/knowledge in writing and not somebody else's. If she wants to use a sentence or paragraph, then she has inform the source/author of it. I suggested her to do more research about Plagiarism. She admitted the she copied one paragraph (the first one), edited and then she presented to her teacher (she also said that maybe it was an accident, but then later she edited and that is the problem), she said that she wrote the other
Plagiarism has been seen as a harmful practice when it comes to the preservation of an artist’s originality. Jonathan Lethem demonstrates the commonality and convenience of plagiarism by composing his article “The Ecstasy of Influence: A Plagiarism” of phrases and ideas of other writers; however, he also supports the claim that a person can rethink and reinterpret the understandings of other people and create an “original” idea based off of them. Is this what Lethem truly means when he says that appropriation is acceptable, or is he supporting intellectual thievery? Appropriation is different from plagiarism in that appropriation doesn’t want the ideas of another artist to be stolen, but further elaborated on or rethought completely.
Marilyn Randall’s ideas of plagiarism are to show that not all plagiarism is bad or good and can be found in her writing about “What is Plagiarism?” Randall approaches plagiarism as a means to agree with another person in such a way that giving credit to the “original” writer, or person, is lost which in terms is seen as a stolen piece. That being said, Randall mentions, “In other words, ‘plagiarism’ does not in fact ‘exist’ in any positive or objective sense, accompanied by textual criteria that would allow us to recognize it in the same way that we can a lyric poem, a sonnet, or even, however tenuously, a novel.”(Randall 4). She includes such a phrase to basically give a positive view of plagiarism, so long that credit is given to the original
In the editorial article “Why it matters that Mexico’s president is a plagiarist”, Marion Lloyd explains how the allegations against Mexico’s president Enrique Pena Nieto contradict his recent actions taken that are a greater part of his promoted educational reform. Lloyd claims that recent reports by a Mexican journalist accuse President Nieto of plagiarizing portions of his undergraduate thesis. These claims have led to a petition against revoking the president’s degree, which has gained 130,000 signatures since the article was written. Lloyd’s view on the issue is it’s contradiction with President Nieto’s educational reform, a program Lloyd describes as “high-profile”, highlighting its importance and the significance of the controversy
A Night at Teddy’s tells the story of Officer John Cansby and his encounter with the animatronics at the abandoned pizzeria. The premise of the story, haunted animatronics and dead children, bears a striking resemblance to that of the videogame Five Nights at Freddy’s. Does fanfiction count as plagiarism? This story in particular is inspired by the game, but is by no means plagiarism. It takes elements from the videogame, yes, but it creates whole other cast of characters and includes its own ideas that makes it original.
Due to plagiarism, Bard High School Early College has an academic honesty policy to prevent students from plagiarizing. Bard has very high standards towards the academic honesty policy. Plagiarism is using someone else’s ideas without properly sourcing the author and making it your own work.
Hi all good comments indeed! Within the clinical trials plagiarism is perhaps the commonest ethical issue plaguing medical writing according to the article from Natasha Das and Monica Panjabi: Plagiarism: “Why is it such a big issue for medical writers?”. We have very well described definition in this article about the different types of plagiarism such as plagiarism of ideas, mosaic plagiarism, self-plagiarism, and duplicate publication, etc. In this field we may detected at the level of the author, the reviewer, or the editor so basically the idea is that if the author is doing such practice the reviewer should alert and reject that and in for instance both situation move ahead the editor must stop and ask for correction before publishing
This is my story when I moved to colorado and when I moved again and what I felt when we moved and the second story Is when I moved to a different neighborhood and school so enjoy.
The passage you wrote is plagiarised from C. Hugh Holman’s A Handbook to Literature. The reason I believe it is plagiarism is that most of the passage stays the same just in a different order and with a few changed words. Not only that, you had refused to cite the original source believing that this is common sense. However, that could not be true as you copied many of the phrases and dates used in the original. This is unacceptable because you are simply restating the passage instead of adding your own voice into it. In order for this not be plagiarism, you would have to add your own significant point to the passage. Contributing your own opinion whether you disagree or agree with it, will make the passage less of a carbon copy and more of
I believe that Meleania trump made an intentional act of plagiarism when she gave her speech at the 2016 Republic convention. Plagiarism is defined as taking someone else's work or ideas and passing them off as ones own without proper credit. Meleania speech has comparable words and thoughts to Michelle's 2008 Democratic convention speech. How could you answer how Michelle's speech was given eight years before melanias identical speech. Even though Meleania claims she wrote the speech on her own with only minor help I'd like to think otherwise. If it was an unintentional act of plagiarism how you bring to clarify the countless identical thoughts. What made me believe this was plagiarism was when Meleania stated "new want our children in this
In colloquial language plagiarism is the concept of stealing someone’s piece of work or someone’s idea. It is clear that plagiarising is unjust and immoral, however now a days it is becoming more difficult to come up with original ideas as the media allows students to have open access to all information and the producer or author must be very careful to not use somebody else’s work unintentionally and claim it as theirs. It is important to educate students about plagiarism as it can carry major consequences. The concept of plagiarism with reference to policy will be outlined and also the steps helping students and authors to avoid plagiarism in this assignment.
Many only know a very vague definition of plagiarism, which is intentionally copying a source word for word. What many do not know is that plagiarism can be unintentional as well. When I referred to your work as plagiarized, I did not mean that you purposely copied the definition of Middle English given by C. Hugh Holman, you might have unintentionally done it. It is one thing to include a word used by an author without understanding what it means or to paraphrase inadequately so that a paragraph sounds too much like the original. It is another to insert whole chunks of an author's work into an essay without quotation marks. Your paragraph is too similar to the original, when you paraphrase you should change the words and the sentence structure
The plagiarism tutorial taught me three things. The first thing that it taught me was APA format requires the citing of paraphrased material to be different than the citing of directly quoted material (Jackson, 2017). This is helpful to me because in my last class I was citing my paraphrased material like it was directly quoted. The second and third thing it taught me was there is a better way to use paraphrasing as a tool to avoid plagiarism and that there are six different types of plagiarism (Jackson, 2017).
Plagiarism is against the law and in universities; they are authorized to kick students out of the program. Although you might not consider your rearrangement of words as plagiarism nor do you feel the need to cite the work in your essay moreover passing it on as your own, it makes the entire essay ineffective. Your argument that its “common knowledge” is invalid simply considering the sentence structure as it is identical to the Hugh Holmans definition. According to Diana Hacker the fifth edition of her book “The Bedford Handbook”, it clearly states the three acts that are considered plagiarism. Furthermore, you have violated all three which are : “failing to cite quotations and borrowed ideas, failing to enclose borrowed language in quotation
Accuracy is one of the main aspects that makes people take information seriously. Without accuracy one will never know the truth. Some teachers can go from saying Christopher Columbus did not find America to saying he found America and raped and killed numerous of Indian women. Or some people may state that the President does not have executive powers to instead declaring the President 's ability to bypass congress. Another situation that can happen is a straight A student can get kicked out of college or gets sued for plagiarism. Accuracy will make us as Americans, at least in a perfect world, proceed further in life and succeed more. One of the many times in American history that cheating made a person go far in life was when Joe Biden plagiarized an assignment, received an F in that class, and then became the Vice President of the United States (Doinne, 1987). Then there is the reporter from the Washington Post, Janet Cooke, who fabricated a false story into an article about an eight-year-old boy that was a heroin addict and later was publically humiliated by everyone (Cooke,1980). Accuracy depends on how credible of a source an individual use. Accuracy is everything in a person’s life. Accuracy is essential for trustworthiness of non-fiction writing . That shows the importance of having accurate statements. Accuracy depends on how good of a source an individual use.
Being a college student is hard. College requires plenty of work. Some students have other things to do besides going to school; some of them need to work in order to pay for their tuition. When school isn’t the only thing students have to worry about, they might get behind in their classes, but they can’t fail them so they have to find out a way to stay on both their job and school. A large amount of students are pushed into cheating; they do it so often that suddenly it becomes a habit. Nowadays, plagiarism is extremely popular. Students don’t like using their brain anymore; they just copy and paste. To avoid plagiarism, students should do their own work; learn how to cite in a proper form, and understand that plagiarism can result in
