Kin Hubbard once said, “We’d all like to vote for the best man, but he’s never a candidate”. Political parties consistently use deceit and manipulation as a way to sway voters away from their opponents and towards themselves. Our current Presidential Candidates are Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. Some may say we have to choose between the lesser of two evils. It makes one wonder how these evils came so far in the running. The answer is simply they have excellent campaign Ads in addition to a really great poker face. Granted, not everyone is enticed by these “promising” campaign ads, but most people buy into them.

Throughout this one minute video, there are clips of children watching her opponent Donald Trump mock a disabled man and speak about deporting Mexicans. During this thirty second video, Rubio is speaking directly to an audience of voting adults. He wants to instill fear in people by saying that Islamic Terrorist attacks that occurred overseas could easily occur here. He claims that the Radical Islamic Terrorists want to kill us because “we let women drive, because we let girls go to school”. By singling women out in this instance, Rubio is insinuating that the women of the United States are lucky that men allowed them to have the opportunity to drive or to educate themselves. Rubio then states that there is no negotiating with terrorists and “either they win or we do”. By saying this, Rubio is hinting that we need to take down Islamic Terrorists and that if you vote for him, he will be the one to do so. Both of the candidates, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, have a strong propensity to persuade, so they know how to use social psychology to their own advantages in their quest to achieve the majority of American votes. Clinton referenced her commitment and consistency, as well as reciprocity by mentioning her connection to the middle class when she was growing up. Likewise, Trump cited his commitment and consistency, authority, and was able to instill in the audience a social proof whenever he referenced business throughout the debate. By using her position as Secretary of State, Clinton was also successful at using social proofing and authority when speaking to the audience. The United States of America faces one of its most unsatisfying presidential elections in history. Neither Donald Trump nor Hilary Clinton has done enough to win over the country. According to a recent poll done by Data Targeting INC, sixty five percent of all Americans have said they would vote for another candidate that is not Trump or Hilary (Wilson). This is where Gary Johnson becomes a major factor. He was previously the governor of New Mexico and is now running on the libertarian presidential ticket. He recently released a commercial that blasted both Trump and Clinton while also giving many reasons why he believes he would be a suitable president. The commercial starts off with someone impersonating Abraham Lincoln pointing out the many faults of Trump and Clinton including the multiple lies that have been told, the many business deals gone wrong, and the general distaste the American public has for them. With the presidential election coming to a close, the campaigns of Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump are doing their best to attract voters now more than ever. The question is, who will be more successful? When analyzed in detail the Hilary Clinton campaign is appealing to their targeted audience in a way that makes her campaign more successful.
In the Unit three summative text, there are two articles, “Take a Book Wherever you go” by Joan Aiken, and “Benefits of Audiobooks” by Denise Johnson, that both use persuasive techniques. But, “Benefits of Audiobooks” by Denise Johnson is more persuasive. Johnson claims that audiobooks will have a positive impact on all kinds of students. Her use of evidence, bandwagon appeal, and reason and logic make it apparent that the reader should take her side. One persuasive strategy the author used was evidence.
In recent elections, the image of presidential candidates has become more and more important. With the increase in television popularity the role of the public in presidential elections has grown. It has become more important that American citizens are attracted to a candidate’s personality and image, especially in the most recent election between Clinton and Trump. Where some may say Clinton had sounder political plans and ideas on issues, Trump made up for in appealing to the American demographic with his promise to “make America great again.” With the rise in television popularity, presidential elections have increasingly prioritized images over issues by focusing on the appearance of the candidates in the media, instead of the plans they have for becoming president.

In the most recent presidential campaign between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, many new election tactics were presented – especially the use of social media, reality entertainment personalities and trying to gain millennial support by relating to them in various ways. As the use of this new tactic went up, the extremities in other aspects of the campaign only increased as well. There became an almost lack of seriousness and rise in hate and bullying, especially in advertising pro their campaign and against their candidates.
In the upcoming presidential debate our two main candidates fight for a spot to be president, but in order to take down the opponent it is necessary to find and reveal any contributions that could ruin the race for one candidate. This was what the political ad called “Trustworthy” by AmericaRisingPAC is trying to convey. This ad focuses on every major lie or contradiction that Hillary Clinton has mentioned or done throughout the course of her campaign. Trustworthy’s main point is to prove to their audience that Hillary is not trustworthy, and because of that her popularity in the election is dropping. Though the ad seem somewhat dramatic and bias, it does have very solid evidence take can really appeal to the emotions and sense of judgement. Every piece used is either a quote from Hillary Clinton herself, or a new clip of the current state that the world is in. AmericaRisingPAC uses her own words against her in a form that makes you doubt her credibility. Even the structure of the ad is done in a way that supports the message and the evidence at the same time. In the Ted Talk “We should aim for perfection- and stop fearing failure”, Jon Bowers outlines his argument for perfection. He begins by giving an example of a “small error” that ended up costing Amazon over $160 million dollars. He then lists more examples draws them forward to present his idea of perfection. The examples show how one tiny error can have an enormous impact and he turns to the audience asking “why we cannot achieve perfection?”. He draws the listeners in by giving personal experience in striving for perfection. “Look, a hundred people die everyday due to vehicular crashes. Think about that for a second. That's like the equivalent of four commercial airliners crashing every week, yet we still can't convince ourselves to pay perfect attention behind the wheel. Children are always known to follow what they see either on television or in their own homes. Thrift shopping is a way of reusing someone else’s unwanted goods. As I spoke about in an earlier speech about thrifting, I included many locations and ways to thrift, also the benefits to the shopper and the donator. One place in particular was shopping at the local boys and girls club. I personally shop there, keeping my eyes open for a good deal. For example, the pair of jeans that I am wearing today was purchased from this store just a few months ago. I paid only $8.00 for this pair of Lucky Jeans and according to buckle.com, a retailer for lucky jeans the retail price is $99.00 that is a savings to me of $91.00.I am not the type to worry about name brands, but quality usually does cost more. If I can get a quality pair of jeans at a fraction on the price, I am glad to shop at the thrift store. Persuasion is described as the deliberate process that intends to change an individual’s attitudes, behaviours or beliefs from their previous initial views and ways of behaving in society. Persuasive communication is widespread and evident all around us, including in central areas of politics, marketing and media. Burkholder et al’s (2003) findings support the idea that there are cultural differences evident in the effectiveness of persuasion, in which they found that shortly after the end of the Iraq war, surveys indicated that although Americans favoured the use of military action against Iraq by 2:1, Europeans opposed it by the same margin. There are four key factors that help influence persuasion amongst the masses, depending on their
