While the sun sets and darkness creeps in, kids huddle around to watch the TV. However, instead of watching a late night horror movie, they begin to watch a Trump rally. Children are always known to follow what they see either on television or in their own homes. In Hillary Clinton's recent campaign advertisement entitled "Rolemodels," Clinton attempts to appeal to viewers’ emotions by using various designs to demonstrate how a Trump presidency would damage our children. Hillary Clinton takes on the concept of Children learning how to act by what they watch on the television, mainly targeting Donald Trump’s heinous public behavior and speeches.
The video begins with the sun setting in the back of different houses, later on the image shifts to children watching television. While images of the kids watching television play, different statements from Donald Trump’s interviews and rallies are heard in the background accompanied by very slow rhythm piano music. Throughout most of the video a dark scheme of colors surround the kids, this making it seem as if they were watching some sort of horror movie. Giving it a dark background seems like an attempt to increase the seriousness of the video by

They seem as if they are truly intrigued and concentrated in what was being said in the rallies. The expressions in their faces was that of a child in school who is concentrated on learning something new. While Donald Trump’s words were being played, all of the kids expressions seemed really serious and sharp. However, when it shifts to Hillary Clinton talking, the facial expressions that the kids show are much more softer. There is even a girl sitting and smiling at 00:00:51. The smiling girl being one of the last scenes that is seen before the commercial ending really differentiates from the serious and almost sad expression that is seen in the first kids that were
A group of angry and worried moms petition together the following day of the Sandy Elementary Hook shooting. What started as a Facebook page plummeted rapidly turning into a lobbying force on members of congress. Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America wanted more focus on background checks on those who wanted to acquire guns within the United States. An alluring illustration by the campaign is born. The ad that catches the eye depicts a banned children’s book. Two girls are side by side in a library flooded with shelves of books. On the right side stands an American flag, and on the right sits an old rocking chair. The main focus is on the two little girls sitting side by side cross-legged. The girls are total opposites. The girl sitting on the right beside the rocking chair is a short-haired brunette holding an Assault weapon half her size. On the left besides the American flag, an African American girl is holding a children’s book, Little Red Riding Hood. The ad asks the viewers to guess which item is banned in the United States. On the bottom in tiny scripts it writes, “We keep ‘little Red Riding Hood’
In recent elections, the image of presidential candidates has become more and more important. With the increase in television popularity the role of the public in presidential elections has grown. It has become more important that American citizens are attracted to a candidate’s personality and image, especially in the most recent election between Clinton and Trump. Where some may say Clinton had sounder political plans and ideas on issues, Trump made up for in appealing to the American demographic with his promise to “make America great again.” With the rise in television popularity, presidential elections have increasingly prioritized images over issues by focusing on the appearance of the candidates in the media, instead of the plans they have for becoming president.
The audience is able to read the alarming data that shows why parents should be concerned with the effect the media has on young minds. Hanes uses plot development to keep readers interested making the readers wanting to know more of what can happen if parents don’t monitor what their kids are seeing. For example, She discusses first hand accounts of her experience on how Disney Princesses could negatively affect young children and she continues this strategy for the entire article. When Hanes does this strategy, she helps the audience create an emotional bond with the
One of the beauties of being in a democracy is being able to let the citizens decide who they want as their leader. Enter 2016, an election year for the United States America as politicians prepare for campaigns in hopes to be elected President. During an election candidates set up their platforms discussing the issues that matter, issues that America has plenty of. From immigration reform, to healthcare, to gun regulations, the United States has no shortage of problems that need to be addressed. Both Democrats and Republicans present solutions as to how such problems can be resolved. When the right person is picked for job, it is simply amazing what can be accomplished. President Barack Obama,
Subliminal and direct messages of gender-role stereotyping can be found in advertisements for children’s toys, television cartoons, foods, and many other items that are marketed towards young children. Specifically, children in the age ranges of six to ten years old. For example, McDonald’s Restaurant has a new Happy Meal commercial that runs often on television. Actually, it is a set of commercials advertising Cuties, a brand of mandarin oranges, as a healthier alternative in their McDonald’s Happy Meal. In one commercial, there are two young boys and an adult male sitting in a kitchen playing with Hot Wheels and in the commercial the boys begins discussing calculations, centripetal force, and making ramps as they calculate the force needed
As today’s population continues to grow, each day the number of potential voters grows with it. The number of young voters is considered one of today’s most important topics of society. Having the ability to swing the decision of the young, newly registering voters could make or break a shot at the presidency of the United States. There are countless organizations and associations devoted to raising the number of young registered voters. With this negative comedic attitude towards Governor Palin the way these Americans votes’ are swayed could have a great impact on the election, especially considering the many adults and young adults that are tuning into Saturday Night Live. Many of the young and undecided voters who are making up the audience of Saturday Night Live are not also tuned into the campaign. Lauren Feldman, a professor from American University, tells a reporter that, “The power of late night comedy to influence voters really lies among those voters who are currently undecided and are
Hillary Clinton is involved in government and is a Women’s rights activist. Clinton was born in Chicago, Illinois on October 26, 1947. She lived a rough life, where her dad had to work very hard to try to get his children out of the life that he had to live. Pathos comes out in this because it makes you feel for the life Hillary Clinton lived. Hillary Clinton attended Yale Law School and Wellesley College. Hillary Clinton was the first lady to ever win a public office seat when she was elected to the United States Senate in 2001. Clinton married Bill Clinton in 1975. Clinton has previously run for president in 2007, but she conceded the nomination because Barack Obama had a large lead ahead of her. Obama selected Hillary Clinton to be secretary
This election sure has been a crazy and stressful one. The interesting part is that we have a male and female running for president. We have seen over the years that men are the ones to run and be presidents and also have been White. In the last eight years we broke the norm and elected a Black male president. This year we have a female running, which can be the first female president and will make history.
Hillary Clinton claimed that “However different we may be, there is far more that unites us than divides us. We share a common future.” The claim would seem truthful from a white, upper-class female perspective, but Clinton fails to see the sheer power differences have for the courses of women’s lives. Womanhood is not the only identifying feature of women as our different socioeconomic environments affect our lives in usually greater ways. In their articles on intersectionality, Andrea Smith and Lynne Haney refute Clinton’s claim by their focus on the incredulity of a common womanhood overcoming the powerful socioeconomic differences between women, as well as the harmful effects of overlooking these variances within popular discourse.
Durkheim writes that education of youth cannot be taught by the family nor the state because they are either too distant or too close to understand the child, therefore, there needs to be an institution located in between the two (Durkheim, 1991, 193). This institution is school (Durkheim, 1991, 191). School is one of the only places where social life is prevalent (Durkheim, 1991, 192). Secondary institutions like school aims to aid children in internalizing hegemonic ideals of the group (Durkheim, 1991, 192). The cinematic production “Mickey Mouse Monopoly: Disney, Childhood, and Corporate Power” demonstrates this by showing how mediums like Disney movies teaches dominant ideologies of society. For instance, when looking at gender representations of females in these types of films, the ideologies implemented in this film is that girl’s appearance will get them what they want or that they need to be saved (Mickey Mouse Monopoly, 2001). These ideologies are internalized by youth without them noticing. Girls and boys will play with one another, and the former will play the role of the victim waiting to be saved by the latter (Mickey Mouse Monopoly, 2001). This contemporary examples signifies that secondary institutions has moved far beyond school and that education can be done through mass media. Interestingly, Mary Wollstonecraft (1993) states that women are taught to care for their appearances and
A true leader has the confidence to stand alone, the courage to make tough decisions, and the compassion to listen to the needs of others. “He does not set out to be a leader, but becomes one by integrity of being intent”. Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton campaigned against each other in 2016, I will begin telling you about their background, leadership, and trustworthy qualities.
November 2016 the people of the United States will vote for the next Commander in Chief and I am one of those proud Americans to vote for Hillary Clinton. Hillary was born on October 26, 1947 and throughout her life she has always been involved in politics. She was the First Lady of Arkansas and the First Lady of the United States. From 2001 to 2009 she was the United States Senator of New York and after President Obama was elected into office, she became the 67th United States Secretary of State. Her list of accomplishments during these terms are well known. Her grace and dignity under the most extraordinary circumstances will bring pride to our nation. Hillary has not always made the best decisions, but she admits to her many mistakes she has made in this process. This shows that it takes experience to get things accomplished in Washington. Hillary Clinton should be the next president of the United States because she stands for equal opportunities for everyone.
Kids media is the single most important thing in the lives of children all over the world. What they see in movies, television books, and all other new media has a direct impact in their development. As such, a project out of the UK brings us Detective Dot, who uses new media to teach kids about gender equality, free trade, and women studies.
During these times, once you turn on your television set you are abruptly notified on yet another absurd act that a celebrity had committed the night before. The media becomes engrossed by the despicable behavior and ravages at it as if it was the final grain of rice. Once they have completed a story that is at the right level of crudeness, they deliver it to the public. The vulgar news reaches households all across the world, and then it soon pollutes the minds of innocent and young children. At a young age, boys and girls commonly compare themselves with reference groups of people who occupy the social role to which they desire. The constant negative and sometimes provocative images that are displayed by celebrities are what define
In today’s society, there are a number of factors that affect a child’s ability to learn. The media, for good and for bad, is the primary teacher of American youth. This environment reflects life itself, sometimes in a corrupt way, including the positive and heinous parts, along with the beautiful and hideous parts, as well as the charitable and violent parts. It is almost impossible to protect American youth from experiences reflecting the adult world when the media invades homes and becomes so much a part of everyday living. “American teenagers spend 31 hours a week watching television, 10 hours a week online, 4 hours a week reading magazines, and 17 hours a week listening to music” (Miss). Even though mass media is a huge part of a
