Study initiator Richard Wiseman said, "People have to persevere, they have got to stick at it. People give up too soon. The ones who achieve their goals are the ones when they hit obstacles don't just give up and pack it in, they try again. They find another route. They are versatile, they are flexible, they have got new ways of finding solutions. Accepting responsibility for who you are and being the person who drives the bus, not the person who is being driven are the ones who tend to be luckier." If you want good luck, you have to work through the times of bad luck to get there. Being open to new experiences and persevering are important in creating luck, but so is your thought process. One participant in a luck study was constantly thinking about her bad luck. One of the study creators said, "When she would come to the unit to be interviewed, it would be just this whole string of bad-luck stories: "I can't find anyone. I'm unlucky in love. When I did find someone, the guy fell off his motorbike. The next blind date broke his nose. We were supposed to get married, and the church burned down." But to every single interview, she'd bring along her two kids. They were 6 and 7 years old -- very healthy, very happy kids who'd sit there and play. And it was interesting, because most people would love to have two kids like that, but that wasn't part of her world, because she was
In conclusion, there are many reason why donating blood is something everyone. In the United States an average of 40,000 units of blood are needed every day. Around 60% of population will need blood at some time in their lives, yet only around 5% of the population will actually donate blood. If all eligible donors will donate on a regular basis, which I six to four times a year, all blood needs would be meet and blood shortages would be a thing of the
The Department of Defense is sponsoring a study, through the University of Pittsburgh, to determine if plasma given to patients with severe bleeding on the way to the hospital will help their blood to clot. Each of the six sites involved has $20,000 available for community awareness education. If people do not want to participate, they can receive a free bracelet that lets emergency workers know they don’t want to take part in the research trial.
The inclusion of these variables alongside their respective levels in the research design is planned with the intention of possessing a prompted experimental and control group relative to their desire to impart blood onto others needing it for health or medical reasons.
This upcoming month Marist College will be hosting a campaign in partnership with the American Red Cross. Our objective for this campaign is to raise awareness and willingness in students to donate blood. Our campaign is hoping to aim for between two thousand to three thousand individuals to donate blood. While conducting this campaign, our primary audience will be the students of Marist College while our secondary audience will be faculty and staff.
For our service learning project we decided to work with American Red Cross to get the word out around campus about donating blood to help people in need. The American Red Cross embodies the power of volunteering and generosity for people in need. Before we could speak to students about giving blood we had to do it ourselves. On April 6th we took a trip to the American Red Cross to donate blood and experience what it takes to give blood. As soon as we walked into the building we meet a Western Michigan professor Paula P Chee that works at Red Cross. Our experience of giving blood was wonderful everyone at the drive was very passionate about helping others in need. For Alex and Ian this was his first time donating blood and was very nervous about it. The staff was very caring and made it a great first time experience for us.
To make things easier and fun, I have arranged volunteers from the American Red Cross to come to our office to accept our much needed donations. Once you have donated blood, join me in the conference room for lunch. I will have deli meat and vegetarian sandwiches, along with salad from Panera Bread for everyone. For those who donate their blood you will be allowed to get off work early after our lunch.
1. If you do donate your organs, your family and the people who receive your organs might benefit in a similar way like this family. A seventeen year old died of head injuries in a car accident. His mom decided to donate his organs. His heart went to a prison chaplain, his kidneys went to a mother of 5 children and a Vietnam vet. The Vietnam vet is "energetic" and finally is getting his college degree. The teenager gave life to others and his family feels a sense of satisfaction and comfort that other lives have been touched by his (University of
“Without the organ donor, there is no story, no hope, and no transplant. But when there is an organ donor, life springs from death, sorrow turns to hope, and a terrible loss becomes a gift.” –UNOS
Blood is highly important as it carries nutrients and oxygen to the body’s tissues. It takes waste products and carbon dioxide away from the tissues and it is needed to sustain life and stimulate the health of all the body’s tissues.
Beep beep beep. That's the sound you listen to as the monitor beeps in your ICU room, while you lay in the bed for days on end waiting for a new organ. This is the everyday life of many people who need an organ transplant. Organ donation is an option that you have to take. Organ donation should be encouraged for multiple reasons, but to name a few are one, because there are many people waiting on the UNOS list, two, because organ donation can save so many lives, and three, because it's simple to become one.
For those who are unsure about donating blood, it is helpful to consider the facts
How much do people know about blood banks, and the causes they serve? Without blood banks it would affect the world majorly around us, and not only the people getting the blood. Donating blood could also affect the donor with the experience of helping another person’s life. There are requirements, like screening and testing their blood, people need to meet to be able to donate and there are minor risks that could happen during the whole process. In summary, blood banks are a necessity to the world because they have saved people's lives from mild to fatal blood loss and other medical problems.
Donating blood and knowing that you are saving a life or many lives at that should be more than enough reasoning to get out there and donate to those in need of this.
The topic of blood donation well-researched, with strategies having been devised to try and increase donation rates all over the world. Australia faces a challenging set of circumstances, in which remuneration for donation is illegal (ARCBS, 2013). It is thought this may be a contributing factor to the poor repeat donation rates in youth demographics, for whom altruism is no longer a primary driving factor when considering donation (Russell-Bennett, Hartel, Previte & Russel, 2012).
Just imagine if one of your brothers or sisters was born with a heart defect and had to have daily transfusions of blood in order to have a chance of survival. Unfortunately, things happen like this everyday and some of you may have experienced them already. In this essay I am going to persuade you to become a blood donor. I try to donate blood every two months or so because it makes me feel like I am doing something good and saving people’s lives. Do you know that 95% of all Americans will need a blood transfusion sometime in our lives (Red Cross web site)? That statistic means that there is a possibility that you, and your family and friends could need support from volunteer blood donors. In this essay I will discuss the need for blood donations, solutions that can increase blood donations, and actions that need to be taken to increase blood donations.
