Gun Control 297 that’s the amount of people that are shot every day in the United States in some sort of gun violence, 89 of those people are killed while 208 are shot and survive. To begin with, the second amendment should not be viewed as an unlimited right to own guns. Meaning certain types of guns and ammunition like those of military grade fully automatic assault rifle or high capacity magazines should be allowed to civilians. Both of these often turn what would be a murder into a mass murder. These high capacity weapons have been involved in 50% of the mass shootings between 1982 -2012, the death rate rose 62% and the injury rate rose 156% when these are involved. An example of this is the mass shooting that happened
Since 2013 there have been 268 school shootings in the United States alone (Everytown for Gun Safety, 2017). School gun violence is becoming increasingly probable. It is imperative that our government and our citizens come together to create a solution and implement a plan to prevent and stop the occurrence of school gun violence. The solution, for some, is to bring more guns into the picture by arming teachers, principals, and other school officials, or place armed police officers at school sites (LaPierre, 2015). For others, the solution is to make even stricter laws regarding gun use or to get rid of these weapons altogether. These certainly are drastic options; I must say that I do believe the true solution is to increase the focus on mental health services and by extension, mental health awareness. There is simply not enough focus on the mental health of our youth and of our students. Mental health services are the most important step to making schools safer, because this solution touches the entire problem of violence at its root level.
“A series of terror attacks that killed more than 120 people, ISIS claimed responsibility for the horrific Paris attacks,” (Castillo and et. al.). Even though more guns will give more chances of murders, will more gun control laws stop people by getting them, will we be safer without legal guns, and why should we give up our right to bear arms.
There has been a rise in gun violence in the United States for the past few years killing several victims that gotten caught in cross fire, mass shootings, and in crime. In 2012, “there were over a dozen mass shooting incidents with two standing out as especially tragic.” One of the shootings ended with 12 people dead and 58 others harmed and only tis amount because the shooter gun was jammed. The second mass shooting involved a man not only killing his mom but also elementary school children and some of the people working there, then later himself. With an increase of innocent people deaths due to guns there has not been a change or an increase in gun laws to lowers the death rates.
n July 18, 1984, eight-month Carlos Reyes and his mother, Jackie, was killed by an unemployed father. Along with Carlos, 21 innocent people were killed at the McDonald’s located in San Ysidro, California. Carlos is the youngest victim to gun violence till this date. His death is the result of the killer having easy access to a semiautomatic pistol and a shotgun (Berkowitz et al, 2017). Ryan Frazier, the 21-year old husband of Emily Frazier, shot himself with a semiautomatic gun he bought from a gas station in November 2008 after confronting his teenage nightmare for a lawsuit. He was molested by a priest and his first time using a gun was to end his own life, despite having a whole future ahead of him (Drexle, 2016). Carlos and Ryan are one of the many few that lose their lives from guns. They represent the stories of victims who have died after the trigger was pulled. With guns being readily available, everyone has the licenses to kill at any point in time, whether the pain is inflicted on others or themselves. Imagine if these were stories of your own family members or friends. According to our Founding Fathers, our second amendment should not be infringed and that people have the rights to keep and bear arms. However, because the United States is the number one country with mass shootings and suicide is the number one cause of gun deaths, it is necessary for our second amendment to be infringed and regulated in order to stop more people from losing their lives.
An unarmed Australian woman in her pyjamas was tragically shot late Saturday night by a Minneapolis police officer who had only been on the force for 2 years.
Today after work Michael went to a local gun shop. There he purchased a handgun. A week later, Michael went to a different gun shop and purchased a semiautomatic weapon. For about three more weeks Michael purchased a new gun a week. Every time the clerk would bother to ask what Michael planned to do with the gun, Michael would answer with the common excuse of hunting or self-defense. A week after Michael collected all the weapons he felt necessary to successful complete his attack. The next day Michael went to a local elementary school and killed 18 children and 9 staff members. Although Michael is fictional events like Michael’s are not. Every year thousands of people legally purchase new firearms. What bothers people is not the purchasing of firearms. What bothers people is the extreme looseness and lack of prerequisites when it comes to purchasing a firearm. In many states there are more common things that have more prerequisites than owning a gun. For example, drivers licenses and passports. Another thing that bothers people is the lack of know exactly what that gun is going to be used for. While hopefully, most guns are not used it still has the potential to do some damage. Every year thousands of people die from accidental shootings because someone lacked the training to be in possession of a firearm. Every year at least “5,790 children in the United States receive medical treatment in an emergency room each year for a gun-related injury” (CNN). Gun laws need to be
Sutherland Springs church, Texas (2017), Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas (2017), Pulse nightclub, Orlando (2016), Inland Regional Center, San Bernardino (2015), Aurora, Colorado (2012), Sandy Hook Elementary School, Connecticut (2012), Virginia Tech (2007), Columbine High School, Colorado (1999), Luby’s Cafeteria, Texas (1991). You may recognize these places and times, as they all hold one thing in common, they are the sites of slaughter. Men, women and children; all robbed of life in some of the most horrific and gruesome mass shootings. Recognizing the dates of these occurrences shows that they are largely continuous. Every year innocent lives are lost through another mass shooting, murder, or fatal accident, and the story is distributed to the world. Many have become desensitized to this violence, as it occurs so often. Society is less likely to feel shock or distress over images and information of continuous gun violence.
Mass shooting: a single episode of gun violence in which at least several people are injured or killed (Rosen). After the shooting at Sandy Hook, the United States of America said never again, yet America regularly has mass shootings. In the Constitution of the United States, the 2nd Amendment protects citizens’ right to bear arms. As this right has been protected, mass shootings have continued to happen with no gun control laws to stop them. There are many countries, unlike America, who has had mass shootings decrease because of gun control laws. Some of these countries are Canada, Australia, and Japan.
Gun control has remained to be the most significant challenge affecting the security agencies in the United States of America. Especially, it has claimed several lives and has left this country in agony. Setting laws and regulations is advisable since it will save lives of innocent people. Gun control incorporates the effort used to eliminate the rise of violent crime through strengthening rules governing ownership of firearms. Primarily, those in gun control groups believe that gun control is wrong and is a violation of constitutional rights. A significant number of people have been left disabled due to the gun crime and violence through the government has to control its distribution and illegalize its possession without exception to any circumstance (Bloomberg, 17). Therefore, the following essay is discussing the implementation and policy recommended for gun control.
Victoria Soto was a ordinary 27 year-old elementary school teacher. She woke up, prepared herself, and went to work on the morning of December 14, 2012 like any regular day. She arrived at her job, Sandy Hook Elementary School and began the school day like every other. Around 9:30 am, the sound of gunshots echoed throughout the hallways. An armed perpetrator had broken into the elementary school and began to fire at helpless people inside. Victoria was one of the many people killed while trying to protect her first grade students from the intruder. Including Victoria, 26 people were killed, 6 faculty members, and 20 students, who were all between the ages of 6 and 7 years old.
A shocking number of mass shootings have happened in the past year “We have seen 307 mass shootings from January 1 to November 5 2017, That averages to almost 7 mass shootings a week”(Willingham). The topic of gun violence is a problem that people should hear about because for example everyone hears about it in the news and sees how it impacts people's lives , it even impacts people that just hear about it because of the innocent people that are getting killed. Gun violence is a problem that needs to be focused on because of the growing amount of deaths that are happening due to shootings.“ Studies say mass shootings are becoming more frequent and deadly, so it's likely only a matter of time before another bloody massacre spurs fresh calls for congressional action to curb gun violence” (Bobic). We should help all the violence go away by reinforcing the gun laws and making them strictor so less innocent people wont get killed. Many people express how much they think that mass shootings are a problem because the number of mass shootings that occur in/at places like schools and concerts. The number of shootings has been going up every month and the number keeps increasing as the years go on.
One topic that holds a strong belief in my eyes is gun control. There are a lot of controversy surrounding the Issue but personally, I would carry a concealed weapon because it would personally make we feel safe. I would rather have a gun for protection so if I needed to protect myself that would be an option, whereas If I was in a dangerous situation and I needed to protect that would not be an option. According to the article “18 LITTLE-KNOWN GUN FACTS THAT PROVE THAT GUNS MAKE US SAFER”. It states that people use guns as a sense of protection especially women 200,000 to be exact use guns to protect themselves from sexual crimes. Anti- Gun control individuals see guns as the primary reasons for murder and crimes but fail to realize that the United States is number one in the world in gun ownership, and yet we are only ranked 28th in the world in gun murders per 100,000 people. In spite of the extremely strict prohibition on firearms in the UK, the general rate of vicious wrongdoing in the UK is around 4 times higher than it is in the United States. In one late year, there were 2,034 vicious wrongdoings for each 100,000 individuals in the UK. In the United States, there were just 466 vicious wrongdoings for every 100,000 individuals amid that same year. I believe due to the high strict prohibition on firearms in the UK it has left their citizens defenseless against crimes. According to the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy they discovered that a nation that possess

November 5th, 2017, 26 people were killed in a church in Texas. The shooter, identified as Devin Kelley, was armed with an assault rifle and opened fire in a small Texas community church. In the wake of the Texas shooting, the topic of gun control has once again arisen to the front pages. In recent years, too many parents, too many siblings, and too many friends have experienced a fear similar to this. The idea of America being a safe place has been shattered by the increasing amount of gun violence. According to the BBC, more Americans have died in the last 50 years from gun violence than have died in every war from the Revolutionary War to Iraq. Easy access to guns has created turmoil in the lives of American citizens. Mass shootings at schools, theaters, concerts, and other public places have occurred more often in the past decade than ever before. Criminals and citizens with mental illness have access to guns due to gun shows and the lack of background checks. Some states are leaving their citizens in a vulnerable condition by not enforcing background checks.
