8. Policies on academic emphasis and scholarship programs (including those who fall below the minimum GPA)
Each chapter is required to maintain academic standards equal to or higher than the university or college all-sorority average. Therefore, the Kappa chapter at UCCS will be expected to meet or exceed a 3.18, the all-sorority average in spring 2016.
Position Statement: Academic Excellence
Kappa Kappa Gamma recognizes the value in striving for intellectual excellence and pursuing opportunities for self-growth.
Each chapter is encouraged to foster scholastic excellence, actively support its members who encounter academic challenges and provide an environment conducive to academic success for all members.
Our commitment to academics is a principle on which we were founded. It remains a focus of our organization. Chapter awards, scholarship dinners and acknowledgment of our members’ academic accomplishments motivate Kappas to attain their academic goals.
Each chapter’s Academic Excellence Committee provides relevant programming as well as information about campus procedures for registration, schedule of classes, and the UCCS grading system. The committee helps educate chapter members about how to make the most of campus academic resources and provides support for members who may require additional assistance. Members of the Academic Excellence Committee are supported by their local adviser and the district Academic Excellence Specialist.

My partner and I grew up around many sororities, but Alpha Kappa Alpha Inc. has always caught our eye. When our teacher explained our topic that could be an interest to us, my partner and I decided on Alpha Kappa Alpha Inc. The sorority A.K.A means a significance in our community. It was the first African American women's sorority dedicated to serve the people and others in need. We knew that we would dedicate our time in making the project a success.
When I think of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., and what the purpose of the sorority is, I think of “Giving back to community” heling others who are in need, as well as using avenues provided within the Sorority, to help young ladies excel not only in the community, but in their career goals, while developing long lasting friendships.
Alpha Kappa Alphas represent service and culture more than anything. Ever since AKA was founded in 1908, their motto has been “By Culture and By Merit”, and the mission of the sorority goes along with their motto. According to the mission tab of the official AKA website, service to all mankind, to cultivate and encourage high scholastic and ethical standards, to promote unity and friendship among college women, and to alleviate problems concerning girls and women to maintain a progressive ingress in college life are the five components of Alpha Kappa Alpha’s mission to stand by their motto (Alpha Kappa Alpha Inc., Par. 1).
My personal development has been molded by many people and things, yet the four pillars of National Honor Society have exceeded all other influences in their potency. Scholarship, service, leadership, and character— each pillar engenders its own unique form of impact upon me. Furthermore, the foundation of my future goals harmonizes seamlessly with the pillars; I shall strive toward success by applying them throughout my life.
The pillars of National Honor Society, scholarship, leadership, service and character, are the foundation upon which each chapter and its’ members strive to better their community and school. Service is what creates the National Honor Society, the actions of one done in order to help others or the community without any monetary or material compensation. Scholarship, the commitment and desire to learn; leadership, the initiative to take action in order to create results for a group of individuals; and character, the distinction that sets an individual apart from others, are the defining criteria of members. These four pillars have been quite evident in my growth and desires for the future. Throughout my education, I have found that it has been
National Honors Society’s four pillars are imperative in a member. First there is character, which focuses on your mannerisms and actions. Next, there is Leadership which shows your ability to guide and manage. Then there is service showing your involvement in the community. Lastly there is scholarship, which is about your classes and academic achievements.
Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority, Incorporated purpose is to be of service to all mankind dealing with critical issues in communities domestically and internationally. What I have grown to understand an envision a woman of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated to be, I accredit largely to the ladies of the Gamma Theta chapter. This has the result of attending many of the chapter’s events during my time at Hampton thus far. One of my favorite events was a screening of a documentary Girls Rising. I learned to appreciate every opportunity to learn and gain knowledge because in some parts of the world girls are restricted from receiving an education. A
National Honor Society Entrance Essay The National Honor Society was established to recognize and foster excellence beyond the classroom in areas of leadership, service and character. This organization is known for sharpening social and academic skills, and producing well-rounded scholars. Therefore, I am deeply honored to be among the exemplary students chosen to be considered to represent the Cleveland Heights chapter. I believe our high school’s chapter needs ambitious student leaders who will take initiative in the community and in the classroom, while also upholding the principles and ethics of the society.
HCC's Omega Sigma chapter recently won two Awards of Merit at the Phi Theta Kappa-Texas Regional conference. Both their community service College Project and Honors in Action research project were recognized.
The inductees consisted of incoming juniors and seniors who met the chapter’s eligibility requirements for membership. Students must carry a 3.4 grade point average (GPA) or higher, demonstrate the qualities of character, leadership, and service, and not have any disciplinary referrals during the current or previous school years to qualify.

From a time when achievement was rare, and succeeding among minority was minuscule, a sense of order was needed. During this time Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated came into the world, bringing core values and achievement. Within the five objectives Kappa Alpha Psi showcases the distinction of itself from other fraternities. The founding fathers had the desire to shape a unique group personality different from the other greek letter college organizations, around the idea of achievement. When achievement was mainly concerned with improvement of personal status, security, and meeting the demands of everyday living the founders of the fraternity envisioned something bigger. Thus bringing about the Five Objectives that men of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated live by and exemplify on a day to day basis showcasing Achievement in every field of human endeavor.
Students could not have more than 3 unexcused absences per semester, had to maintain a certain grade point average to walk on stage, had to submit at least one college application, were required to complete 100 hours of community service, and could not have more than 2 unsatisfactory effort marks per semester. Surprisingly, more students graduated that year than any other. Standards for students are important; they hold students accountable and push them to achieve goals.
