Personal Statement
One memorable day at Lincoln Northeast High School, I was walking in the halls when a student in front of me suddenly collapsed. He started shaking from head to toe. I froze for a few seconds which felt like an eternity, then I shouted for help. The kid continued to vigorously shake with saliva foaming from his mouth. At the time, I didn’t know that the student was experiencing a seizure. I just remember standing there, watching and not knowing what to do. I wanted to help but I did not know how. Time slowed down; I thought he would never stop shaking. After reflecting on what happened, I decided to pursue a career in the healthcare because I wanted to help people. I wanted to know what to do in situations like this. I hated standing there and not being able to do anything.
The summer after graduation, I was introduced to the field of healthcare with a job as a certified nurse assistant (CNA) at First Care Home Health. This was an incredibly rewarding experience as I was doing what I love most: helping people. I especially enjoyed bonding with my clients. I was meticulous in completing their care plans, and it was when they genuinely expressed their appreciation that I knew healthcare was something I wanted to be a part of. However, nursing was

My passion lies in sports medicine, leading me to major in athletic training. I love how athletic training, unlike most health professions, focuses on the most effective aspect of healthcare, prevention. The program involves a rigorous academic program that is paired with an excellent clinical program that allows me to work with athletes every day. It is fascinating to learn about the latest techniques and technologies used to treat athletes. Prerequisites to physical therapy school conveniently involve many of the science courses that would help me achieve a biology degree at UNL, so I have also declared a major in
Nursing is more than traveling room to room, patient to patient, to provide medical care. Nursing is about treating the patient with the utmost respect and compassion. It’s more than providing medical care, but supporting the patient and family. Being a nurse only requires a bachelor degree and a “RN” badge, however, a great nurse possesses that knowledge, along with determination, a positive attitude, compassion, and patience. I believe that I display these characteristics and have a true passion for helping others. Throughout high school, I always had an interest in the medical field and biology. In my junior year, I decided to enroll in the CNA course to pursue my passion for nursing early on. Through this class, I experienced moments of self discovery
Physician Assistant A physician assistant work in all areas of medicine. They also help with surgeries. I was stuck between this career and being a paramedic.
My passion for healthcare cultivated because of my family. Throughout my childhood and adolescent years, I got an opportunity to volunteer helping around the nursing home where my mother worked as a licensed practical nurse. Looking back, on those experiences influenced my entire career in so many diverse ways. Learning ample amounts of wisdom from various honorable people. As a child I was always trying to help my mother, grandmother, aunts, my church take care of others in our family and the community. Once I graduated from high school I did not know if I was prepared for college. Likewise, I was not sure if I wanted to become a registered nurse and follow my mother’s footsteps. However, I did attend a technical training school and became a certified nursing assistant in 2005. During my five year gap year, I conducted research on several different areas and aspects of healthcare. Over the course of ten years I have had the opportunity to experience different segments of healthcare. From the different settings of healthcare, exploring different business opportunities offered in healthcare, and educational and technical skill trainings. These three topics really influenced my decision to pursue a healthcare career.
Science is a field I am particularly passionate about and am pursuing as a career. This is because I believe the profound knowledge and insights science offers can best equip me to serve others through a career in health care. I came to this conclusion after taking my first college level biology course. For the first time, I became aware of the unimaginable dept and complexity of the world and ignited a burning fire within me to understand it all. As I continued to take additional biology and chemistry courses, I discovered the thrill that comes with deciphering the governing laws of life. This understanding has taken on a greater, personal meaning as I have learned how to apply science to daily life and share its benefits. Moreover, working with various masters of this admirable field has encouraged me to apply my own skills and what I have learned in health care.
My lifetime goal is to become a Registered Nurse since I was 18 years old, but, unfortunately I did not have the opportunity to go college, but to go to a technical school and get a medical assistant degree. Since then, I worked in many different doctors’ office in Florida as a Medical Assistant until 2 years ago when I met my husband and moved to Maryland. Luckily, with my husband's support, I have been having the opportunity to go back to school and continue my education.
The nursing field gives a person the opportunity to work with and care for elderly, sick, and injured patients. I want to join the registered nurse team because they take on multiple medical settings. Registered nurses are known as RNs. They are responsible for multiple things. Being a RN has a lot of responsibility. The topics I will be covering are: job description, specialties, trends, salary, benefits, and required trainings. These are essential things that a person needs to know before going into nursing school.
Since I can remember I have always had a compassion and natural desire to care for my fellow man. Now having this opportunity, I remain committed to this task. During my nursing career as a Registered Nurse, I allow myself time to grow clinically and to expose myself to a variety of health care emergency situations which continues to be very valuable to me in strengthening my career. It is very fortunate that I have the opportunity to be in a position to where I am today.
I worked as a CNA (certified nurse’s assistant) for Creekside Village Nursing Home for what seemed like the longest two years of my life. When I got hired, I was eager at the chance to gain first-hand experience in patient care, seeing as I aspired to become a registered nurse someday. But the feelings of happiness I felt in the beginning, sad to say, didn’t last long. I was starting to hate it, more and more with every passing day. . . .
My father, who is a nurse, encouraged me to start as a certified nursing assistant first before I enrolled into a nursing program, to make sure this is what I really wanted. Each passing month I worked I fell further out of love with the idea of becoming a nurse. The lack of intimacy my nurses had with patients, saddened me. It seemed all that the nurse did was run around frantically trying to do all they could do, just to sit down and chart for hours upon hours. I longed for the human interaction, talking to each of my patients, meeting them where they were in life and helping them through these tough times of illness and old age. It was more of the social aspect I loved. I wanted to help people through tough times and listen, something I had been doing but often had to cut it short to attend to the long list of things I had to do in my job description. I realized that I really wanted to pursue a degree in which would help me become a
As a health care provider, it is extremely important to be aware of different resources that can be used to help you provide the highest quality of care to each patient. In this paper, I will touch on several websites that discuss different topics of maternal, infant, and child health. Many of these websites include educational information that can be passed on to women of child bearing age, those who are expecting, and those caring for infants.
Your choices will affect you throughout your life, whether it is a big or small decision. For example, it could be something simple like eating fast food for the third time this week or it could be important like going to an interview for a new job position. When you are young, you change your mind every chance you get. This might be why deciding what job you want for the rest of your life is difficult. Currently, 1. I want to be a RN, which is a registered nurse. Registered nurses do a lot to help their community and the people in it. With this job, I would be able to give back to the community by helping people. This makes me feel like I would be a better person.
My sports medicine class has gotten me over one hundred hours of being an athletic trainer for my schools girls soccer team, certification in concussion testing, heat illness, sudden cardiac arrest and has helped me improve in responding quick to
Each time I am asked why I chose the medical and more specifically to become a doctor, I tell the interviewer that it looks like fun. Am I crazy? Some may think my head might not be attached correctly. The student loans I will acquire, the amount of time and effort it takes, and the overwhelming schedule is enough to scare any normal person away. But some rare people are out there to make the seemingly impossible be more than possible. I became a certified nursing assistant as soon as I turned 16 with the hopes of becoming a nurse in my future. After working and helping patients, I couldn’t dream of not becoming a nurse. The relationship you establish with someone you are helping can be so influential. Over the last year I have worked with
A nurse practitioner, is a profession that I have wanted to pursue for many years. The Family Nurse Practitioner program of the County of Los Angeles Department of Health Services and California State University of Los Angeles will provide the advanced level of education I need, to provide evidence based practice care to a wide variety of patients. My goal is to utilize this level of expertise and knowledge to give back to the community especially to the underprivileged inmate population in the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department by providing them easy access to high quality, patient centered and cost effective health care.
Healthcare has many different areas one can go into if interested in this field. I have chosen two that have always been an interest to me; Nursing (particularly registered nursing) and an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician). Both jobs are very demanding and extremely important. Both are respected jobs and require a tremendous amount of caring for others.
