“I plan to give members of my committee more control over their initiatives,” I said before the senate body after my appointment as the new Academic Affairs Chair within the Student Government Association. Forever encapsulated into the meeting minutes was my bold idea: the Renaissance of the Academic Affairs Committee.
Headed into my second term as an Arts and Sciences senator after a successful campaign, and newly elected as the Academic Affairs Chair, one of the senate leadership positions, I had a mission. For far too long, the committee had been the butt of jokes among circles in the organization. As a member of the committee, I personally vowed to remedy the troublesome sentiment among my peers. Using the leadership skills I developed at Seton Hall I had the opportunity to put my plans in motion: to turn theory into reality. I had identified issues of concern that thwarted the committee success such as lack of communication and team morale. Furthermore, those issues alone can derail any person’s ambitious plan, as it is essential a team maintain smooth communication in conjunction was high enthusiasm for projects. Little did anyone else know the grandiose plan I concocted even before my elevation to a senate leadership position. During the first meeting of the committee, I unveiled my master plan and it garnered an overwhelmingly positive reaction among the team. I became more confident that I was on the right track and proceeded to action on my intentions. My position
It is my honor to nominate the Alpha Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. for the Ujamaa Community Award, recognizing its leadership and vision for a healthy community at Ujamaa and, ultimately, at Cornell. One of the Chapter’s main goals this year has been to expand students’ ability to participate in processes and issues that impact them. Last month, the Chapter welcomed the new Dean of Students, Dr. Vijay Pendakur, to speak at Ujamaa. During the event, students got a chance to hear about the new Dean’s goals and how they might affect the lives of students and communities of color. The discussion included a brainstorming session on ways to improve the student climate and experience at Cornell. As a result, many students were able to make substantive connections with higher-level administrators, including Associate Dean of Students/Director of Intercultural Programs Dr. Renee Alexander and Director of John Henrik Clarke Africana Library Mr. Eric Acree. Many students were also able to use the opportunity to begin or further pursuing making a difference in an issue meaningful to them.
Untouched for years, it became riddled with inconsistencies, typos and numerous loopholes; moreover, it allowed departments to receive excess funding, a problem that deeply affected student organizations. This is where Melanie Lee, ASUU’s legislative advisor, and Attorney General Connor Morgan have come into play.
‘’The worst kind of hurt is betrayal. It means someone was willing to hurt you, just to make themselves feel better.” Two strangers meeting for the first time is a joyful experience for both people. Trust in the building part of a relationship. Friendly, or affectionate relationships can last for a lifetime, as others may end in a revenge manor.
Everything changes over time. The world faces new challenges, or it reinvents old ones as technology, business, and culture evolve. However, the core concepts that many of us hold dear, including freedom, remain the same.
Senator Summers had a busy month and wrote two club bills, one for the National Association of Music Educators and one for Young Americans for Freedom. She was excited about the formation of the campus security meetings and continued her service on the GCU dining committee. For her interaction time, she spent a large amount of time at
President Rhea’s proposal to eliminate several of the vice presidencies, including Student Affairs, is drawing upon the imitation and mimesis from her peers (Birnbaum, 1988). In keeping with institutional norms, she tried to maintain the legitimacy of her peers (Hartley & Morphew, 2008). While this choice has the potential to contribute to the future of EMU, it will only be a detriment because it is not acting in accordance to the best plans for the institution. This decision
We have accomplished a great deal through your contribution and while our institutional achievements have been considerable, our aspirations continue to be ambitious. Thanks to President’s Circle leadership gifts, like yours, assist to promote the promise of a quality education and abundant opportunities for all of our students.
With over two years working on the executive board of the Alpha Kappa Delta Sociology Honors Society at Flagler College, I possess an overall knowledge of what it means to manage a program successfully. During my time as vice president, I gained hands on experience facilitating and executing events and meetings, being a part of a team, working with undergraduates, and recruiting new members. Additionally, my time as a youth specialist intern at the Boys and Girls Club allowed me to gain
As Director of the Office of Student Learning and Institutional Assessment at SFA, the Provost charged me with developing, implementing, and overseeing institutional effectiveness efforts for academic programs, administrative units, and educational support units. Under my leadership in institutional effectiveness, SFA was successful in achieving reaffirmation from the Southern Association of College and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) with no monitoring reports or recommendations, an achievement that only 10% of institutions could claim during the year SFA received reaffirmation. We were able to accomplish this distinction despite the fact that the institution had no consistent or formal institutional effectiveness processes in place just 3 years before our compliance report was
On 08/20/2017 at 1002 hours FTO Wheeler #4361 and I responded to St. Luke’s Hospital emergency room entrance, on 3555 Cesar Chavez St., regarding a women in a hospital gown trying to break the caller’s vehicle window with a brick. Officer Wheeler and I were in full police uniform driving a marked patrol unit when we responded.
Peace is going through some awesome changes, and I would like to be a part of the growth and changes of the university.
From a different perspective, due to busy schedules as a result of the many commitments university students take on, it is often hard for them to find the time to take the initiative and oversee operations as an executive. However, regardless, students deserve the opportunity to
In all these roles, I have sought to support or define the charge of the committee while bringing my organizational development and training background to support process improvements in workflow and decision making. In these roles try to model positive organizational citizenship behaviors by being prepared, being responsive to committee leadership, sharing my views in a productive manner, and asking questions about process and procedure. In the future, I hope to serve the SOM in whatever roles are needed and serve the College in leadership positions such as the Director for Service-Learning and in the emerging Teaching
Since the BSW program was really strong in viewing diversity, my experiences prepared me in understanding the view of social work and diversity a little more.
The writing I did this semester for Engl 110c has meant alot to me because I was able to pick a topic that has such a huge impact in my life. I was able to do the topic about Navy Wives, which has a huge impact on me. I recently became a navy wife a year ago and my life has changed drastically. I was able to share everything I wanted to about the life of a military wife through my writings, as well as share to my classmates about my topic. I really enjoyed creating my ePortfolio because I could come out of my shell and be me. I made a ePortfolio website that would be for military wives to read. I believe this website would be perfect for any military wife reading it. I was able to give tips and information on what it’s like to be a military wife, how to prepare for deployments and how to stay strong being a military wife.
