“I plan to give members of my committee more control over their initiatives,” I said before the senate body after my appointment as the new Academic Affairs Chair within the Student Government Association. Forever encapsulated into the meeting minutes was my bold idea: the Renaissance of the Academic Affairs Committee.
Headed into my second term as an Arts and Sciences senator after a successful campaign, and newly elected as the Academic Affairs Chair, one of the senate leadership positions, I had a mission. For far too long, the committee had been the butt of jokes among circles in the organization. As a member of the committee, I personally vowed to remedy the troublesome sentiment among my peers. Using the leadership skills I developed at Seton Hall I had the opportunity to put my plans in motion: to turn theory into reality. I had identified issues of concern that thwarted the committee success such as lack of communication and team morale. Furthermore, those issues alone can derail any person’s ambitious plan, as it is essential a team maintain smooth communication in conjunction was high enthusiasm for projects. Little did anyone else know the grandiose plan I concocted even before my elevation to a senate leadership position. During the first meeting of the committee, I unveiled my master plan and it garnered an overwhelmingly positive reaction among the team.
