I believe it is important to acknowledge certain events during your life experiences. As those events serve as ways for you to look back and understand how your actions are influenced by the way you view things. For instance, February 6th, 2017, reinforced what I already knew. I knew the magnolia Multi-center location was in a low-income neighborhood because of a simple characteristic, the cars. For instance, I live in the Heights which can be considered a middle-class neighborhood. In my neighborhood, you can see brand new luxury vehicles daily, for instance, Mercedes, BMW’s, Range Rovers, Jeeps, Maserati’s, and other well-known vehicles brands. In the other hand, while driving towards my destination those vehicles became rare to see. I recall …show more content…
I remember feeling so nervous and anxious as it would be my first time observing a speech-language-pathologist clinician performing therapy, experiencing that hands-on experience. As I sat down in my car I could not stop thinking about the various emotions I was feeling at that time. Finally, it was time for me to get going. Well, let’s recognize that the speech clinic was easy to find among the all the other service clinics offered by Magnolia’s multi-center building, a huge University of Houston sign was resting in the middle of the hallway. As I entered the room is was exactly how pictured it, mini classroom feeling with very minimal wall decorations. There was a small filing cabinet on of posterior left side of the room. As soon as walked in you were greeted by the speech-language pathologist, who was sitting on her desk resting in on the anterior left side of the room. There were also two different size tables in the room, one was the children’s table with four available seats and the adult table with four seats as well. As for the setting, it was clean and approachable. The classroom decorations were minimal, there not too much
Keaunna Knox has been a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) since 2007, and has worked ever since 2000 with children with special needs who had speech and language disorders. She began as an “Instructional/Speech Aide” at Pasadena Unified School District working with children with moderate and severe intellectual disabilities. All the students she worked with had speech and language disorders, and, since the Districts therapy was overloaded Keaunna implemented the communication goals she wrote. Based on that experience and many others, Keaunna decided to enroll at Cal State Los Angeles to pursue her professional career in teaching. She received her Master’s in Mild-Moderate Disabilities in Special Education from Cal State Los Angeles and a second
I responded to Magnolia Wood Lodge in reference to a dirorderly call. Upon arrival, I made contact with Nathan Mosley. Mosley stated that one of the residence(Cedrice Barnes) was being very un cooperative and attempting to hit them with closed fist. Nathan Mosley, Angela Lewis and Cessiley Colwell, were all victims of the situation. Officer attempted to walk Barnes back to his room. Officers ended up getting Barnes back in his room, which was room 11. Officer's then talked with Barnes and explained the issue with him. Barnes started being un compliant and started throing closed fist at the employes. I then pinned Barnes agaist the wall and pulled out my pepper spray. When I released Barnes, he pushed me. Barnes was then told to placed his
On Thursday, December 3rd, 2015 at 2:00 PM I observed an hour and forty five minute secession at East Stroudsburg’s Speech and Hearing Center. East Stroudsburg’s Speech and Hearing Center is located on campus, in the town of East Stroudsburg PA, on the second floor of Monroe (building). The clinic at ESU was very clean and organized. It had multiple therapy and diagnostic rooms that were set up nicely and welcoming for a client. The types of population seen at the ESU’s clinic range from any age for speech therapy or audiological visits. The clinical audiologist I observed was Susan Dillmuth- Miller Au.D., CCC-A, FAAA..
My intensive Speech Language Pathology coursework at California State University- Fresno has provided me with the skills to implement treatment plans, assist during speech and language assessments, and keep formal documentation of client’s progress in speech therapy. These are the necessary skills required to be an effective Speech Language Pathology Assistant and will make me as asset to have in the school speech setting.
The Magnolia Multi-Service Center provides various services to individuals in Houston. Some of the services that this community center provides include dental care, daycare, WIC programs, senior programs, etc. The service center also provides speech, language, and hearing services for children. The speech language pathologist (SLP) and the clinical fellow provide therapy services in small groups and individually. The SLP and clinical fellow provided individual therapy services for a fluency disorder, an autism spectrum disorder, an intellectual disability, and an articulation disorder within three hours. The Magnolia multi-service center provides necessary speech language and hearing services to individuals in the community.
Closer to the day that I was going to leave NAS Willow Grove I called my folks and told them when I was going to go home. My family was very happy that at last I was going to be with them, and Dad told me he was going to drive from West New York to the base, and pick me up to take me home. I was looking forward to seeing my parents once again. I had a lot of things I wanted to tell them, so many stories of my adventures of the past months. I was also looking forward to getting home and seeing what college I could go to now that I felt more confident about myself.
The clients that received the DAT training, 11 of them met their goal. One client did drop out of the DAT training because she felt it was not helping her. All of the clients in the MSI, ATC, and psychoeducational trainings all met their goals. The final percentage was that 83% of the clients met their goals. It was shown that each case should be reviewed and individualized for the client. Collaboration with the school, administrators and teachers would be very helpful in deciding which treatment would benefit each of the client's. Clinicians did collaborate with school staff making recommendations for the student’s accommodations if needed. Overall, this study showed positive outcomes as a speech-language pathologist delivers individualized treatments to the
Over the course of this semester, I have had the opportunity to listen, observe, and learn about the responsibly of a Speech-Language Pathologist. Through this experience I have been able to visualize what a typical day would be like for a professional in the field I wish to continue studying.
On Friday, March 31st I observed Northside Elementary School in the Brookville school district. I watched in a separate speech therapy classroom for students who also require special education. There was only one student who attended each session and the only professional in the classroom was the speech language pathologist, Miss. Haag.
Samantha Cielinski/More than happily I am excited that this weekend I have arrangements to just hang out around my house as well as to be with my family. I started my arrangements last night. Furthermore, last night my dad and I watched barrel racing in Little Falls. Extremely hungry dad and I decided that we should eat. Therefore, before we went to the arena we went to Sue’s Drive in for hamburgers with a dessert of ice cream. Having the most wonderful time, we were ready to be able to go to bed and sleep.
The first objective was a detailed schedule for the session and instructive review using visual cues, positive reinforcement, and modeling. Before session began, the clinician and client set three timers to remain on track for the 55-minute therapy session. The schedule outline was to first work on /l/ in the final position, secondly review irregular past tense verbs, next work on the production of /r/ sounds, and lastly engage in prize table activity. In the first activity, J illustrated to Susie his production of /l/ in the final position by gradually saying the word “final.” Susie took this opportunity to work on phonetic placement utilizing mirror modeling to show J where to place his lips and tongue during phonation. Susie gave kinesthetic
I don’t have an “ah-ha!” moment or a specific experience that pinpoints what piqued my interest in speech-language pathology. After years of working successfully in the field of insurance and healthcare management consulting, I could not deny my desire to be part of a discipline more directly involved in counseling or patient care. That aim set me on a journey to determine how I could best serve in this capacity and ultimately led me to a decision to change careers. I researched, I interviewed people in a variety of fields, and I examined my own values and motivations.
Through the woodsAs the snow descended from the sky, the book club gathered by the warm fire to discuss their newest read. This club was just of five people, Ben, Tabitha, Shane, Sarah and Palmer. They were all the best of friends since high school. While everyone talked, and laughedand was captivated by the banter, Ben was particularly was enthralled by the snow. The way it fell lightly from the sky put him in a trance, and made him feel like he was in a different world. Although living in Minnesota for all his life, Ben could never get enough of the winter wonderland, but tonight wasdifferent, tonight he felt like he was being called out of the house but couldn’t understand how or why.He felt likeIgnoring his better judgment and the requests of his friends, he went out. He saw a man run
“Hey Pete wanna go on a walk through the woods?” my little brother Joey asked, peering through the doorway into my room. “Not today little guy I’ve got a lot of work I still have to do”. Drooping his shoulders, Joey left the room and headed for the woods. ‘What? it’s not my fault I have so much homework. I’d go out with him if I had the time’ I thought to myself. It seemed like I had been using that excuse a lot more lately. ‘I really should be spending more time with the guy… well too late now, I’ll tag along next time’ I decided. For the next few hours I blared my music and flew through all my work. I didn't look up from my work until my mom called down for us to come to dinner. I walked down and sat at the table with my mom and dad; however,
Looking back on life, there are many little moments that stand out. Some, more than others, have shaped you in a way that changed the trajectory of your life. These moments can be anything, walking left may have saved you from being mugged, choosing the wrong car can get you stranded in the middle of nowhere. These little choices and events have a way of forming how we are going to live our lives. There are days that are more important than others, however, for me only one comes to mind. The day my little sister, Emily, was born is the most important day of my existence, this day altered my life for the better.
