Having been sponsored to leave China and study in the states, I had seemingly abandoned my piano career; my family simply did not have the funds to purchase another piano for me or pay for lessons. This changed when I received 50% off piano tuition from Cape Cod Conservatory and a grant from Olive Cahoon Classical Piano Scholarship Awards in order to pursue my future piano study in the US. Remarkably, I had also been donated a piano from John Gage, allowing me to pursue my passion. I simply could not comprehend the generosity of these strangers whom I had never met. Instead of furthering my own need, I now take time to volunteer for local charities and places in need, such as playing piano in senior homes, volunteering in hospitals and elementary
My College and Career goals include graduating college and getting a job. I wish to attend the University of Alabama. I plan to major in occupational therapy or speech therapy. After I graduate with my bachelor's degree I wish to get my master's degree. After I finish my schooling I want to receive a job that allows me to provide for my family. I wish to receive this job in my degree's field. After receiving this job I wish to improve to reach a leadership role.
Going into college, I would like to peruse many of my goals. I would like to start out getting my general studies in and then build up to become a Registered Nurse. After I accomplish becoming a Registered Nurse I would like to work on becoming a Nurse Practitioner. One reason I am striving to complete these goals is to be able to have a good future and hopefully a good job will come out of this. Neither of my parents went to college and I want to be able to accomplish that for myself.
I went through a lot in life as a child. Growing up was not easy as a kid ( especially
Saginaw, Michigan, has a population of a little over 50,000 people. When I was between the ages of 6 and 13, my hometown was considered to be the most dangerous city (with 50,000 and up population) per capita in the United States according to the FBI. In 2013 it feel to the third most dangerous. Everybody in the city knows these statistics by heart. Dangerous cities are brewed from a combination of many things including lack of jobs, opportunities, and options. In Saginaw, like many other low-income, predominantly black cities, the education system works wonders in assisting in lead their products to prisons. Growing up in the part of city that has the most violence, I’ve seen cousins join gangs, die from being in the wrong place at the wrong time, and students with little options go down a path that leads to less options. Since growing up in these conditions
I am a college graduate. I am proficient in the English language. I am knowledgeable with the computer operations. I am a very responsible, diligent and hardworking individual.
Nursing is a profession that requires intellectual, emotional and physical strength. Nurses are revered for their compassion and grace during difficult situations that involve life and death. An attribute I bring to the nursing profession beyond my academic abilities is eagerness. I am eager to learn, eager to adapt, eager to grow, and eager to serve. I welcome and embrace challenge and change as both are occurrences in the healthcare field.
As a college graduate, I would probably be perplexed if I were offered a lump sum of $5,000 sign-on bonus for my first post-college job. There are a number of things to consider when deciding whether to pay off existing debt or invest the money for additional earning potential. The first thing that I would consider is my risk tolerance including my age, income, earning power, time horizon and tax situation (Artzberger, 2014). My age at the time would weigh into the decision heavily. Meaning, at this time, I am relatively young and the time value of $5,000 at 5% interest would be approximately $21,000. Since I have paid taxes on the money, I could invest in a Roth IRA for tax-free gains upon retirement. On the other hand, paying off debt may
My post secondary goals involve going to a 4 year college and becoming an industrial engineer. Math and science are essential in any field of engineering. My passion for these subjects is reflected in my work key's scores. I earned gold for both applied mathematics and reading for information, and silver for locating information. Industrial engineers should know how to set up and solve problems , read graphs and how to read directions. Based on my scores, I believe I can excel in engineering.
“Quero que meus netos para ter sucesso e ser feliz e viver a vida,” my grandma told me, this means she wants her grandchildren to be successful and be happy and live life. This makes me want to succeed in school and just succeed in everything. The person who introduced avid to me was my older brother, Anthony. He is in a state university, so seeing that he got there because of avid makes me notice that avid is a great program. When I transitioned from 8th grade avid to freshmen year avid it was very different. I thought the binder checks, the essays, and the tutor was a waste of time but now I realize it is not. Avid is a program not to just get ready for college but to life goals. Avid teachers are not just teacher, like are more, as like a friend but also a teacher's. My avid
I do not consider myself the normal college student seeking out a degree in education. I am a 37 year old single mother of four children and I work full time. When I started out my college journey I wanted to be an accountant. I was set on becoming a CPA and running my own business. I had always loved math, but when I had taken accounting and finance classes in high school and feel in love with numbers even more. My first years in college were a little tricking between working for a bank and taking the accounting classes, two careers where debits and credits meant the exact opposite. This challenge did not deter me from accomplishing my goal of becoming a CPA. What did deter me was when I started working for a CPA. That love for the field started to
Hi Mrs. Carlin this is Jurnee Alexis Carter! I am so excited to be taking AP Biology for my senior year science. I remember being in B2 biology freshmen year and it was one of my favorite classes of my entire year. I love biology and everything about biology. My last science teacher was Ms. Yates for Chemistry Advanced. Chemistry was a very interesting subject but the style of how the teacher taught the subject was not helpful to me. A lot of the time she would be more bitter about life then actually teaching the subject in a helpful manor. I also took Anatomy and Physiology my junior year. Anatomy was one of my favorite classes since I find everything about the body so amazing I enjoyed every single part of the class. During sophomore
Up to last December, I had no academic goals, leave alone any plan for my future. It was not that I chose to neglect privileges, I did not care because higher education was never a theme of discussion for my family. In fact, my parents and I rarely have a conversation.
When I was a junior in high school I went through a major injury playing baseball, I tore my rotator cuff playing baseball and had to have surgery to repair it. Going through the process of getting it repaired I met a lot of individuals throughout the recovery process and one man stood out among there others. He made it a lot easier getting through the pain. Kevin Kennard a physical therapy assistant not only helped me out during my appointments but he would make the time throughout his day outside of work to help me get to my goals. That is when I knew that I wanted to go into the medical field, but I wasn’t for sure on what I wanted to do. Talking with my parents I have a lot of family members that went into nursing and they informed me about the careers my family had, and I decided that I wanted to be a nurse. When I graduated in 2007 I began my collegiate adventure at Northern Oklahoma College in Enid, Oklahoma I was ready
College is a difficult time for students because of the amount of work that needs to be managed. Being a nursing major can be slightly more stressful than other majors because of the challenging information that needs to be taught. Freshmen year was very difficult to stay on top of all the assignments that were due; however, making a plan for success can help this crisis. To be successful in nursing school, I plan to have a long-term goal to have a 3.5 gpa every year. As the success video explained, setting a goal can be a helpful structure for students to follow. Although this dedication seemed hard at first, I broke down my inadequate studying habits and I transformed them into great accomplishments. My inoperative studying habits include procrastination and time management. I used my strengths for organization and studying every day to overcome my flaws. END THIS SOMEHOW
I am a young woman who comes from a single income household. It is my mother who supports my sister and me in college with no help from our father or anyone else in our family. She makes a little less than thirty thousand a year and she is still able to support herself, my down-syndrome brother, my sister, and me. My mom does not work in a prestigious job, but she works hard. My sister and I did have jobs before school began, but our mother wanted us to focus on school. So not only was she paying for two separate colleges, but she was always paying the light, phone, and rent bill all by herself. She had to take on the brunt of the bills. Gaining this scholarship is my way to help lighten her load.
