I believe that I would contribute to the groups program due to my background of a low income family and being a first generation college student. I grew up not having much of anything and most of the time just wondering where my next meal will come from. Although over the years my situation has improved my mom is still in no position to be able to even begin to afford college. My dad not even being in the equation will not be helping her to pay my college debt at all. Due to these factors I had little hope I would ever be able to attend IU, until my councilor John Livingston (groups 96’) recommended the groups program to me. This lead me to the realization maybe IU was a possibility despite my income and being a first generation college student.
A club that I had always wanted to be apart of since my freshman year of highschool was The Beta Club.
National Honors Society is an amazing opportunity to be chosen for. By being accepted, it shows that the hard work that I have done in the classroom, and in the community have done well for not only the community but for myself as a person. Since I have started High-school, I have done many volunteer hours at my church. I have done many things such as help lead game-time for the little ones during a learning program called Awana. Awana is a program done by some churches to help raise children to love and serve God. I also help most Sundays in the sound room at church. I help to run the sound and the computer that displays the songs that we are doing that particular Sunday. I enjoy doing these things because seeing the children’s faces, enjoying
Starting high school can be a little scary, especially when you have no guidance from siblings, like me, being the first one from my family to have an education. But that did not stop me from succeeding, I?ve always been confident and determined. I?m an enthusiastic when it comes to trying new things. Who would have thought I was going to be a good athlete plus a book geek, when in my past years I was just a regular kid. I was pretty excited about joining a club that had a connection with high school, that way I didn?t have to start from zero, I always want to be a step ahead. Fortunately, in summer, a high school coach was recruiting freshmen for running either cross country or track, they both involve running, so I considered it like the same sport with different timing. And this is when it all started. Running
Week one has passed by quickly! I think this week was very successful and I can say that I have learned many new things. This week has been an experience for me learning things about the business world. I am not a business major so I was not expecting to take these classes. I was assigned them, but have found them very beneficial. As I read through the first couple of chapters I read things I had heard before. This was a good thing that I could put the information with the terms I had heard previously.
My PIF group this time considered of Kelly Ma, Emily Lin, Virgina Mac, Aaron Bautista and I, Natalie Pham. The PAC leaders of my group were Sabina Li, David Tran and John Young. Our PIF took place on the Sunday’s night of November 8, 2015 at David’s apartment. It officially started around 10 pm since some of us have either a fellowship or other event before the meeting. When we got to the apartment, there was another PIF happening, so we when outside for a while and just exchange conversation with each other. Our plan for the PIF was to have some bonding time and to play games. Before the actual event took place, David and Sabina went to In-N-Out and offered to buy us food and Aaron really wanted fries. David initially forgot Aaron’s fries but since he ordered extra fries, everything was fine. All of us were surprised when we saw Aaron that day because he got his ears pierced and his eyebrows done. This created a conversation about how most of us also want another ear piercing but we were too scared to get it alone. Emily really wanted a three-lobes piercing but her parents would not allow her to get it.
Elementary school, for most people, is the easiest few years of school they’ll ever encounter. For me though, it was an uphill battle of trying to learn and fit in. Being diagnosed with a learning disability in second grade, I struggled to keep up with my classmates and my teacher’s expectations. By the third grade, I was put into the resource room all day instead of being allowed to stay in my classroom with accommodations. At the time, my teacher was a first-year teacher fresh out of college and because of my learning disability, she decided it was easier to put me in the resource room all day than to work with my accommodations. Ideally, the resource room is there to help students with disability’s
The team and I joked around to try and release our nerves. Something was bugging me though, I kept thinking back to when Durkins told me that Lincoln had said that we were going to lose(4). I was really shocked, I mean, I knew Lincoln trusted his old team more than he trusted us but I had dismissed that as a new kid kind of thing. That didn’t mean I was all cool about it though, I was angry that he wasn’t confident in his team to win against Franklin. Although that anger may be from the times that Lincoln disobeyed Coach or from when he trusted his old team more than his new team even though we were his new team. MitchelI put Mitchell in a headlock and a little later Lincoln strode into the locker room. I let go of Mitchell and straightened up. “ Durkins says you said that we’re goin’ to lose. Why did you say that?” I remarked.
“Oh, my goodness,” “Wasn’t it so funny when Mr. Speranza split his pants in class today?”
I thought your example of the different literary genres using 2 Corinthians and 2 Chronicles was perfect. I was a little confused by your example of a text taken out of context though. The verse you referred to, regarding one man being taken and one man being left, does refer back to the time of Noah's ark. If you continue to read before and after you will see that the Lord is teaching on the rapture. Man will be going about his business like in the days of Noah when the flood occured with no warning. We must always be prepared and in right standing with the Lord. We can't put it off, because we don't know when He will call His children home.
Growing up with a father in the military, you move around a lot more than you would like to. I was born just east of St. Louis in a city called Shiloh in Illinois. When I was two years old my dad got the assignment to move to Hawaii. We spent seven great years in Hawaii, we had one of the greatest churches I have ever been to name New Hope. New Hope was a lot like Olivet's atmosphere, the people were always friendly and there always something to keep someone busy. I used to dance at church, I did hip-hop and interpretive dance, but you could never tell that from the way I look now.
How are things going? I see that life has been exciting for you these past few months, that's is so great to see! I want to follow up with you on a conversation we had a few months back when I invited you to a Challenge Group, I can't remember where we exactly left the conversation, I do remember you wanted to lose some fat, get toned, and be healthier in general. I am leading a Challenge Group that starts in February and wanted to see if you, or anyone you know, might be interested in joining. I'm specifically looking for ladies that want to get started losing weight over 30 days.
I learned that Estrella likes to work out and enjoyed a nice bike ride. The way she talked about drinking water and enjoying a snack after her ride was so pleasant. When she was talking about drinking water after her ride, I felt I could taste the water. The way Cindy described how she enjoyed putting on hand lotion. Vanessa enjoyed her morning coffee and she got her nails done. This activity helped me realized that we all enjoyed different activities. What distresses me might not distress another person. For example, riding a bike and getting my nails done causes me a great deal of stress. However, the girls enjoyed these activities. I learned that we are all just so busy and we forget to enjoy the little
The underscore of everything a social workers is, everything they do, can be summed up in two words: social justice. To be a social worker is to constantly advocate for every client the right to equality within all aspects of life and within all institutions within their communities like education, health care, and social security. I have witnessed many examples of social justice, and I have also learned how to advocate for social justice within my four incredible years at Saint Joseph’s College of Maine through a variety of service learning and community based learning projects, as well as by knowledge I have gained through classwork and discussion. Social justice is one of the foundations of Saint Joseph’s mission statement, much like it
Our first group was on October 24, 2016. Amie, Amanda and I arrived early to meet with Melanie and set-up for our first group. Melanie asked us which room we preferred. I pointed out that the kitchen was less noisy then the room next to the tv room. We were able to utilize a white board and requested dry erase markers.
