The first goal I wish I could achieve is to improve my business writing skills to make me more professional. I also want to develop my communication skills through joining in class discussion with my other classmates. As Confucius said more than two thousand years ago, “Walking among three people, I find my teacher among them. I choose that which is good in them and follow it, and that which is bad and change it.” Communication is a good way to learn from others and I believe it will be helpful in my personal growth. Besides, I think I would get along well with my professor Dr. Hank and my classmates, because I really enjoy this
My earliest experience with writing was my learning period that formed not only my style of writing but how I studied and the ability to apply words and concepts into a structured format. The process at first was difficult because it was my first time being exposed to structured writing which caused me to put it off until the last minute or lose interest in the topic I was writing about. The rowdy classroom was eager to release near the end of the day, but we knew we had to face one of the more uninteresting subjects of the day: middle school English. The teacher thoroughly explained our assignment which made each one of us cringe. The class finally initiated work mode and I was clueless. I would start to make progress but would be constantly
After filling out the Writing Skills Inventory, I noticed that I rarely created a plan to help me stay organized while writing. In this paper I will explain how and why I am going to improve my writing skills by planning my essays prior to starting it. Creating a plan could include a couple of things, it could help me create a process for completing the assignment or it could help the ideas within the assignment flow better and stay in order. I want to improve this skill because I often procrastinate on my tasks, so I do not have time to really construct solid ideas and take time to revise and edit as much I should. The reason that I do not plan out my assignments is that I think that it would be faster and easier to just write it all in
The aging of the population will have wide-ranging implications for the country (Ortman, Velkoff, & Hogan, 2014). By “aging,” demographers often mean that the proportion of the population in the older ages increases. As the United States ages over the next several decades, its older population will become more racially and ethnically diverse. The projected growth of the older population in the United States will present challenges to policy makers and programs, such as Social Security and Medicare. It will also affect families, businesses, and health care providers.
When it comes to writing I have a mental breakdown, I get nervous, overthink, and emotionally stressed. These three words describe me as a writer. In high school I would have a difficult time starting papers, often times my weaknesses was grammar and sentences fragments. How I feel about writing is how I feel when a love one dies. It's like as if I'm at a funeral and my paper is the one being funeralized. I think the reason why I am how I am about writing is because my college English teacher in high school was so harsh on my papers, and ever since then I've been traumatize to write papers.
I would share what I have learned with my boss, family member and friends by showing them how i have changed my way of writing and thinking before I start writing or speaking. I know that I talk a certain way but i will make sure that y writing skills are different. I would also share with my friends and family members the basis rules of writing that was shared with me. (Chambers 2016) Writing is an acquired art and that there are no run on sentences, punctuation and sentence fragments. (chambers 2016) I have not been a student with good writing skills in a long time. But I am learning to not write the way I speak. I will continued to improve my writing, speaking and thinking skills on a daily bases.
As technology evolves, the traditional style writing classrooms should do so as well. Students are used to the typical routine, in which an instructor lecture and hands out assignments. However, is that really the most effective way of teaching for all students? Teachers neglect the fact that not all students learn the same way. In learning this, I propose some changes that could be made in order to increase learning effectively such as; the choice of physical work verses online work, communications and feedback to students, and essays.
I can still remember my heart pounding out of my chest. It was my first time in Writing 1, and my nerves were mostly the result of a friend’s advice. Winter quarter, my friend told me about her struggles in her writing class and she advised me not to take Professor Bernstein for Writing because as she said “he is really tough and a very hard grader.” However, I had no other option but to take writing with Professor Bernstein because all the other writing 1 classes conflicted with my schedule. Nevertheless, nine weeks have past since I first stepped foot in Writing 1, and I can certainly say that I have learned more than I ever expected. Yes, it is true, this class has been a challenge like no other, especially for me, being that English is
I enrolled in this course because I wanted to strengthen my writing and editing skills which I will later be employing in the workplace once I have graduated from ASU. Technical editing is something that I have only limited experience with, and I hope to learn a great deal from this class. One thing I found interesting from the first three chapters of our textbook is the editor’s relationship with the audience who will eventually be reading the text. Normally one thinks that an editor’s primary relationship is with the writer of the written work rather than the audience. Now that I have read these chapters, I have a better understanding of the relationships that the editor has with both the writer and the audience. Another interesting thing
Have you ever tried something hard and failed but still trying continuously until you accomplish your goal? That’s me trying to improve my writing skill. My goal right now is very simple: to pass English 49, and then finish both English 101, 205. However, I’m still struggle with the writing process
My first thought about writing is dreadful, writing does not come natural for me is hard to focus on a main theme and then tried to expand on it. So for me writing would be the sooner I can finish the faster I can get it over with. However writing has also improved many of my lacking skills. I learn how to shape the body for writing, creating an outline and different ways on brainstorming. I still need a lot of help improving or developing writing skills. Also taking a few of writing classes has even improved any basic writing work I do, I improve my resume, referral letters also I can say that my communication has improved.
What I’ve experienced with writing so far is that I have limited skills. But the funny thing is that I am constantly writing something just about every day whether it be an email, or summarizing meeting minutes at work, or proposing an idea for a church program.
As a human being, we, all, strive daily to better ourselves, gain confidence, and become more competent. However, sometimes, we need help. So, where does that help come from? We can receive help from parents, teachers, siblings, peers, pastors, neighbors, or complete strangers, but what if there isn’t anyone available? We have access, to a world of knowledge, at our fingertips. Resources are everywhere, if we just open our eyes so that we can see, and our minds so that we can comprehend.
I have never been much of a writer, but I can’t say I completely hate it. For as long as I can remember, I was always one of the kids that would sigh when a teacher assigned an essay for the class. One reason for having a dislike towards writing was because it takes a lot of thought and time to even think of how to begin. However, as I grew older, I came to the conclusion that writing isn’t all that bad. I actually found writing quite interesting when I get the chance to write about something that I strongly care about. So writing to me is bittersweet, depending on if it’s something that interests me or not.
The beginning is the hardest part when it comes to writing. Every experience differs per individual. I have discovered that most the time I do not know what to do, but flow with thoughts and see what comes of them. There is much to learn from this process and it will only get better as I continue to become a more capable writer. This is what I have learned about the writing process.
I’m the girl that refuses to put herself out there out of fear of rejection. The only thing about me that is “out there” is my hair that is a screaming light blue. I do this to put my opinion out into the world without talking. This however brings unwanted attention to me. My hair makes people stare. Some think that it’s cool and they complement me but others have look down on me because of it. Even my own family has made comments putting me down about my hair. One time, for example, my Aunt Darcie came up to me during a family party and started talking to me about my hair.
