Overcoming Obstacles in the Pursuit of My Dream Job
As a child, I dreamed of becoming a nurse. However, my strong repugnance of blood and needles made a nursing career highly implausible. I had never set any logical career goals. Even if I had, the pursuit of any goal would have had to be put on hold, as I became pregnant at the age of seventeen. When my children were still very young, I thought about pursuing a teaching career and decided to enroll in college; however, my college days were short lived, as I was a single mother of three sons. My middle son faced learning challenges and I felt the need (and desire) to be a full-time, stay-at-home mom and focus on the needs of my children. When they got a little bit older and started

Sometimes it is difficult to balance work demands and educational goals simultaneously. That is why I would love to work for Costco Wholesale Warehouse. When I shop at Costco, I notice that the staff is friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and they just seem to love their jobs. After reading about all of the benefits of being a Costco employee, it explains why they seem to love their jobs. When an employee enjoys their job and they are treated as family, they tend to be more loyal and motivated. It is important to me to be able to work for an employer who values my desire to not only be a valuable employee, but to also achieve success through education and hard work. Costco has been named by Washington CEO Magazine as one of the top three companies to work for in the state of Washington. Despite the company’s large size and continued growth, Costco provides a family atmosphere in which their employees thrive and succeed. Maybe this is the reason Costco’s employee turnover rate, according to jobs.aol.com, is twenty-four percent a year compared to Wal-Mart’s turnover rate of fifty percent according to …show more content…

In my culture, society looks down at mental illness and when news of mental illness gets out in the society, one’s reputation is pretty much destroyed. My elder brother, Imran, was misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder when he was a teenager. My family was still living in Bangladesh at the time and my brother’s illness was treated as a secret by my parents. My parents went above and beyond to hide my brother’s illness because we come from a culture that is quick to condemn parents for their children being abnormal, my family felt very protective of the fact that we had mental illness in our family. Family visitation and guests in our home were strictly monitored by my mother and my siblings and I were coached to make excuses for my brother. My brother’s illness shaped me as a person because I realized that I needed to be able to overcome the obstacles life throws in my way in order to take care of my family.
There is so much suffering people have to deal with in this world. I believe we are given an obstacle we have to overcome. It just depends on the person’s inner strength and will to not give up and keep trying. Nancy proves this to be true she is different from others in her condition especially how she refers to herself as a cripple. Throughout the essay she writes about her experience and her journey with MS. The way she goes about it makes her readers not feel bad for her but to feel proud for her because she has not given up. Its shows us that she’s accepted the obstacle given to her and she is not giving up even knowing her illness doesn’t have a cure.
Starting my second semester in Modern I, I was really excited to see what new things I would learn and what new goals I needed to set for myself. I was definitely ready to push myself and work even harder than the semester before. During my second semester I set only two new goals and kept one from first semester. The two goals that I set included, getting stronger in my inversions and watching the alignment of my hip. The goal that I kept from last semester was making sure that I was coming to class alert and ready to work. After second semester mid-term, I started to work a lot on building strength in my arms. During class, Professor Hapke would always come over to me and fix my arms while I was in downward dog. To make sure I was gliding
Phillip stated his best part about college is being able to learn, having professors who actually care and being in organizations that are made to help minorities succeed.
My life isn’t that appealing, I always imagined myself in better position that I am now, maybe living out of state somewhere with a boyfriend who loves me and a job that could sustain my college tuition. If you would have asked me at the age of eight what I wanted to be when I grew up, I would have said something on the line of “a Lawyer, Doctor, or even an Astronaut” but no one ever tells you how hard its going to be and how much debt you’ll be in at the age of twenty-five. From childhood to adulthood, everyone chooses a path, where they must overcome obstacles thrown at them. Obstacles in life make us who where are, they make us learn, and they predict how we will turn out. My obstacles consist of mental, physical, and social throughout my childhood, adolescence, and adulthood years which made me who I am today.
Time management is an on-going challenge that is important for my overall sucess. I currently work a full time job that requres many hours of travel. Gradaute work requires many dedicated hours of study time. Maintaining a healthy lifesytle is important for my overall well being. One challenge that I must overcome is maintaining enough sleep. One goal that I am working on to impove my sleep hygeine is to go to bed at the same time everynight and disconnect from social devices in my bedroom. Another goal is scheduling most of my work for completion before noon, when I am most alert.
Facing obstacles, it is an everyday challenge for some people. Mine was a baseball to my face, during my sophomore year of high school. It happened during class at the end of the day. Some kids were practicing for baseball tryouts outside the gym, which is where I had my class. The ball caught on with the wind causing it to change course, making the ball fly straight into my face, specifically my left eye. Two months later I was diagnosed legally blind. I was thrown so far off track that I lost myself.
Growing up I lived with my mother, father, and siblings. Around the age 15 my mother and father separated. I have always been the person who set goals for myself. I had support from my family and friends with everything that i did. I had a pretty close relationship with my siblings growing up even though we were all very different. I played basketball from 3rd grade up until 10th grade and after high school, decided to go away to college.
“Be thankful for each new challenge, because it will build your strength and character.” Every once and awhile we will get our boots stuck in the challenges that we will have to trudge through to become stronger. Truly, we don't grow when things are easy or non-chaotic, rather we sprout into a growing tree when there is a rain storm. Life throws us overboard at every twist and turn so we have to batten down the hatches. Not only that, but we also seem to fall deeper into a bottomless pit when we attempt to take the shorter path. Overall, we have all faced challenges within our life, whether from a problem at home, to losing a soccer game. A maze that is endless, quick sand that swallows you whole; can both describe a challenge.
Merriam-Webster defines growing up as such; to grow toward or arrive at full stature or physical or mental maturity. Growing up is like getting hit in the face with a brick. The brick being a metaphor for my transition into becoming an adult. My transition began at the beginning of the summer when some of my best friends graduated high school and were getting ready to go off to college. These girls included me in their group when I was only a freshman and over the past three years we formed a tight bond. Most of us had played sports together too like, basketball and track. As an underclassman I really looked towards my friends for guidance and many of them I viewed as role models. Having my friends leave for college this past summer was a real
Something in my life that I think goes unnoticed is my ability to overcome obstacles that get in my way. I learned at a very young age how to deal with serious events and problems. My life hasn’t been easy and the fact that I am alive is a miracle. On March 15, 1998, my parents were on their way home from a business trip when they were hit by a drunk driver just miles from home. My mother was also 32 weeks pregnant with me at that time and we were not expected to make it. My dad broke his arm, while my mom suffered a horrific traumatic brain injury and other major physical injuries. She had to learn everything all over again. Growing up with a mentally and physically disabled mom was extremely difficult. She would do weird things and get angry
I have faced many obstacles in my life and have been through many hardships. However, I always overcome them in one way or another. For example, when I first walked the halls of Harlingen High School I entered as a shy but ambitions freshman with a lot of friends and unfortunately a lot of enemies. I was always put down due to play playing ability in band. I constantly tried to get better and better and that’s when freshman region auditions came along. I was excited to be able to actually compete with others so I can finally prove myself to my peers and teachers. I stumbled through my pre-audition and wasn’t able to audition and that killed me inside. I practiced so hard to not be able to audition. Although I was never any good I decided to
My main plan to complete both my co-requisite and 111 English course is to do my assignments as soon as I can so I will have enough time and concentration to do them. This plan is the same for the time I plan on working on the final writing assignments for each course. But as every aim, you always have to face obstacles if you want to achieve your goal. Thus, the obstacle that has already been presented is the lack of time due to the fact that I often wait until the minute to do my assignments because I spend most of my time doing unimportant things instead of doing important things, such as my assignments. Another obstacle is as English is not my mother-tongue, I struggle to make constructive sentences and comprehensive essays and this problem
Yes, any obstacle or disadvantage can be turned into something good. One reason is that obstacles can show us to be an optimist. Also the obstacles and disadvantages can be a way to learn. The last reason is that every obstacle that we overcome, can make us a role model for others.
As a student of Colorado State University-Global (CSU-Global), one of the outcomes I would like to achieve after graduation is to secure a position in a new line of work. It is important that I carefully select a job that not only commands a good salary, but also aligns with my strengths and values which will increase the likelihood that I will enjoy the job and be successful at it. With the help of CSU-Global 's student career center and the knowledge and soft-skills I obtain from my courses, I can map out a path for a desirable future in a new career as I transition from that of a student, to a job seeker, to that of a competent employee and effective leader.
