I have faced many obstacles in my life and have been through many hardships. However, I always overcome them in one way or another. For example, when I first walked the halls of Harlingen High School I entered as a shy but ambitions freshman with a lot of friends and unfortunately a lot of enemies. I was always put down due to play playing ability in band. I constantly tried to get better and better and that’s when freshman region auditions came along. I was excited to be able to actually compete with others so I can finally prove myself to my peers and teachers. I stumbled through my pre-audition and wasn’t able to audition and that killed me inside. I practiced so hard to not be able to audition. Although I was never any good I decided to
In my culture, society looks down at mental illness and when news of mental illness gets out in the society, one’s reputation is pretty much destroyed. My elder brother, Imran, was misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder when he was a teenager. My family was still living in Bangladesh at the time and my brother’s illness was treated as a secret by my parents. My parents went above and beyond to hide my brother’s illness because we come from a culture that is quick to condemn parents for their children being abnormal, my family felt very protective of the fact that we had mental illness in our family. Family visitation and guests in our home were strictly monitored by my mother and my siblings and I were coached to make excuses for my brother. My brother’s illness shaped me as a person because I realized that I needed to be able to overcome the obstacles life throws in my way in order to take care of my family.
There is so much suffering people have to deal with in this world. I believe we are given an obstacle we have to overcome. It just depends on the person’s inner strength and will to not give up and keep trying. Nancy proves this to be true she is different from others in her condition especially how she refers to herself as a cripple. Throughout the essay she writes about her experience and her journey with MS. The way she goes about it makes her readers not feel bad for her but to feel proud for her because she has not given up. Its shows us that she’s accepted the obstacle given to her and she is not giving up even knowing her illness doesn’t have a cure.
Phillip stated his best part about college is being able to learn, having professors who actually care and being in organizations that are made to help minorities succeed.
In all the years I’ve been involved in running, I am quite confident that I’ve never heard anyone admit that when they were a youngster they wanted to grow up to be a distance runner.
There are many things that can hold people back from goals that they are determined to accomplish. Despite these hardships and dilemmas that we face, if we have fight in us and the correct work ethic we are bound to succeed. I personally have faced my share of obstacles in my life and have been through plenty of hardships. I was excited to be able to actually compete
The obstacle that I faced fits in my definition, because it shows that if I was never able to face that at the time I wouldn’t be able to go and play for teams. If I never knew how not to be scared in basketball games, and not freeze up during games too, I wouldn’t be able to play for teams. So that was an obstacle that I had to overcome, because if I didn’t I knew that I probably wouldn’t be able to play the sport the I love. The reason why I feel like this was an important obstacle was that I could play with friends, but I wouldn’t be knowledgeable of what I would be doing.
The wheelchair exercise was a great group experience, as it allowed us to truly understand what it feels like to be disabled or physically challenged by forcing us to put ourselves in the shoes of a disabled or physically challenged person for a few hours. During our wheelchair training at the Rehabilitation Centre, the exercises did not seem as difficult to do in comparison to when these training techniques where put to the actual test outside. Some difficulties we encountered were trying to push the wheelchair in a straight path. Due to the tilted sidewalks, moving straight forward was rather difficult. Also, with the tilted sidewalks and recent weather conditions in our assigned observation site, the grass on the side of the sidewalks were
During the course of our lives, we will all be faced with obstacles. Some may be small, such as losing your car keys. Others may be large, like losing your job. However, if you approach all obstacles with an ambitious attitude, and resilience, as opposed to just whining, moping, and becoming depressed about it, they can be much more easily overcame (Harrington, 2012).
“You are the only person that you should rely on.” My mom said it best, because of her this was my 10 year old mentality. Independence is a huge factor in my household, my mom always taught me that eventually she won’t be there to protect me. Raised by a strong single mother, I was taught that when you depend on others you lose your sense of pride and sovereignty. When you learn to stand on your own two feet and take care of what you are accounted for, you see the world for what it really is. Although you may face obstacles, it is important to remember that it is not the end. Obstacles do not block ones path, rather they are the course to prosperity.
Glaring upwards at the inclination of the slope I consistently question whether I could make it another step further. The trail conditions were not exceptional. The ground was so slick that every step you take you would slide back half a step. Swirling through my head thoughts like “THEY SAID THIS WOULD BE AN EASY BOOT PATH NOT A PRATICALLY OFF TRAIL ROUTE CLIMBING THIS STUPID MUDDY FACE!!!!”. I withheld my smoldering frustration inside and trotted up with an unpleasant and desperate gait. Over and over the climb leader yelled a Jens Voigt (Professional Cyclist) quote “Shut Up Legs! And do what I tell you.” in the most preposterous German accent. Time passed by in insignificant increments as I seemed to only scramble fifty more feet upwards.
“Challenges are what makes life interesting. Overcoming them is what makes them meaningful”. Obstacles are problems, given to us humans to solve. It could be something as big as being born with a disability or something as simple as learning how to ride a bike. Overcoming obstacles are never easy to begin with. Most obstacles are extremely hard and challenging. But by overcoming them, you’ll know why they are important. The importance of overcoming obstacles in life is to make you braver, stronger, and wiser. Everyone has their own obstacles to overcome, and some are illustrated by my own experience of learning how to ride a bike, John Green’s experience of going against his mental illness, and Thor’s experience of fighting against his very own sister, Hela.
Something in my life that I think goes unnoticed is my ability to overcome obstacles that get in my way. I learned at a very young age how to deal with serious events and problems. My life hasn’t been easy and the fact that I am alive is a miracle. On March 15, 1998, my parents were on their way home from a business trip when they were hit by a drunk driver just miles from home. My mother was also 32 weeks pregnant with me at that time and we were not expected to make it. My dad broke his arm, while my mom suffered a horrific traumatic brain injury and other major physical injuries. She had to learn everything all over again. Growing up with a mentally and physically disabled mom was extremely difficult. She would do weird things and get angry
An obstacle is defined as a thing that blocks one's way or prevents or hinders progress, and many people face obstacles that restrict and complicate their lives. In so words, an obstacle is a road block, but it does not have to be a permenent one. An obstacle although it may seem negative could impact someone's life in a positive manner. For instance, a person may be a teenage mother, yet need to finish high school and does not have a babysitter to watch her child during school hours. What can one do in this circumstance? There are many options available to this mother. She can find a school in her area that supports teenage mother and offers a day care service. She can go to her local department of human services and request childcare assistance,
My main plan to complete both my co-requisite and 111 English course is to do my assignments as soon as I can so I will have enough time and concentration to do them. This plan is the same for the time I plan on working on the final writing assignments for each course. But as every aim, you always have to face obstacles if you want to achieve your goal. Thus, the obstacle that has already been presented is the lack of time due to the fact that I often wait until the minute to do my assignments because I spend most of my time doing unimportant things instead of doing important things, such as my assignments. Another obstacle is as English is not my mother-tongue, I struggle to make constructive sentences and comprehensive essays and this problem
Throughout life, many individuals encounter things in their life that they find difficult to overcome. Many of which overcome such obstacles quickly, while others fail to overcome them at all or at least it takes them a much longer time to do so. I fall into the third type of individual.
