Introduction This document analyzes Current Problems’ online presence and social media usage. Current Problems’ existing online presence includes their website, Facebook page, a newsletter, and a Flickr profile. My report will include an overall evaluation of the website and these social media platforms with a focus in website design and layout, audience engagement, information and social media platforms, information, and content. Later sections will also analyze Current Problems’ effectiveness in targeting stakeholders, expanding its audience, and achieving the non-profit’s goals. This font also has wide gaps in between letters which make skimming more difficult. Another issue comes from most of the website being 12 point font, which makes the text more difficult to see, especially in longer paragraphs. However, the website does combat some of these issues by having high contrasts in background and text and increasing user readability. Navigating the website also creates issues. Both the upcoming events and link to the newsletter fail to load, leading to an error report. On the opposite side of the spectrum, too many windows pop up when visitors hover over certain names in the “About Us” section, leading to a browser full of the same biography. Even then, other names have no information at all besides the name and title. Other information is lacking throughout the website unless certain paths are taken, including any information about specific projects. Audience Engagement The Current Problems’ website has a tab calling visitors to action labelled, “How You Can Help”. This page includes four ways to benefit Current Problems, including becoming a member, making a donation, becoming a sponsor, or becoming a volunteer. While the member application and donation button work, sponsors and potential volunteers must send an email to receive necessary information. Ultimately the problem that needs to be addressed is the company’s outdated internal and external social media. Updating the company’s social media will allow for company growth through marketing appeal, cyber security, and communication improvements.
In order to make my community a better place, I joined a church group that would gather food and water and donate them to the homeless. The church I go to is a Catholic Church named “Presentacion de Maria.” They often do fundraisers to assist those in need, such as homeless, older generations, and people with disabilities. The church would give you the option whether one wants to or not, and I was inspired to help the poor. For many years people relied on the traditional ways of communications, for example pay phones, send letters, a house phone, in person and they even used web cam’s. Presently, people rely on modern day methods of communication such as sending text messages, emails or even messaging via social. The development of the internet has made it so much easier for people to communicate that Social Media has become the place where people interact more than ever in a mere second.
In today’s century social media is the main way to communicate with people with people all over the world. It has become very popular... even more popular than a text or video message. Social media is a computer technology that facilitates the creation and sharing of information, ideas, career interests and other forms of expression via communities and networks. The variety of social media services that are currently available can help benefit businesses, introduce an event, or even help you find a friend, family member, or long lost soulmate. Some social sites even help you find love. However, there are many positive things that can come out social media but there are many negatives too.
Social Media has a massive impact on a person’s self-presentation because of the different trends where everyone wants to fit in with society’s expectations of what we should look like. Celebrities are made to be our role models, however, magazines photoshop and make them more toned and a lot slimmer, which makes young people want to make their bodies more like theirs. This then leads to the modern generation becoming self-conscious because they feel they have to fit in and achieve an ideal self that fits in with those around them.
Visitors can use the footer to connect to the website for finding out information. The Oldest Sweet Shop has developed a clear and footer with understandable texts. The footer in the website can be useful for the user and is designed to incorporate with the site using hyperlinks. A screen shot has been taken, see Appendix 6. Websites’ visitors are more likely to use websites with images rather than the ones without. Images ensure users to interact with the website and can be quite appealing. The Oldest Sweet Shop uses adequate amount of images for the website. The website has a clear parallax scrolling in the main page as well as a picture of each product they sell in which helps the business to attract visitors to the website. See Appendix 7 for an example of Oldest Sweet Shop images. Typefaces and fonts are important to develop and design for a website. (Prather, n.d.) explained that “In today’s digital landscape—more than ever—people are aware of typography, design and how the world looks around them”. The Oldest Sweet Shop website uses fonts with a white background colour which might causes difficulty for the user to read. A test for colour accessibility has been undertaken, see Appendix
Today, many businesses are experiencing the effects of social media. Government, businesses, and communities interact through social media and use it to access their investors and potential customers. According to Donovan (2016), “Most types of businesses today make use of different tactics and techniques to make a significant exposure of their website to its target customers.” The goal is to use social media to maximize their potential in order to be one of the strongest participants in the business world.
This article examines the important role of social media to public relations practitioners. The researcher wants to investigate the innovation of social media through the case study of Obama presidential campaign and public health issue. Moreover social media can bring destruction to the organization, if the user misuses the social media. Social media has brought a new challenge to the society. The researcher use intensive interview and focus group toward public relations practitioners to explore how important the social media did to them and the negative outcome of social media. The researcher use quantitative method – survey to examine the appetency of the social media among different size of community.
