Matt tries to learn not only math, science and language arts, but also nature study and they explore new lands that he didn’t even know existed. He always wants to learn even at parties he tries to learn. Many have heard this quote “ the student surpassed the teacher” well Matt has proved that he is smarter than a human when Matt was too smart for grade 3, at the age of 10 that he went to learn how to play the piano. He also tries to help others who were hypnotized to become ejits he tried to turn them back to normal. Even though the people he was helping were people like Rosa, and Rosa hatted Matt so much that that she threw him to live with chicken pens and his only friends were cockroaches and a pigeon I bet that if Tom was hypnotized to become an eejit Matt would try to bring him back to normal even though Tom came with a pea shooter to basically terrorize Matt so bad that he would have round marks for days, and he would sometimes bleed from the pain it caused and this happened when he was six years

He starts telling him how great plankton is and it is the eighth wonder of the world. He think that he is welcomed but then before bed everybody except his new friends start hurling accusations at Matt and Matt is made fun of by all the boys at the plankton factory and the keepers. After spending a couple day working Matt finally realizes that he is not wanted there. After getting in trouble, one of the keepers said that he’d enough and decided that the only way to get to Matt is to hurt his friends. Before the keeper was able to hurt Fidelito, “Matt hurled himself at the keeper. He drove his head into his stomach and tore the cane from his hands.”(page 319) After Matt was able to take down the keeper with the help of Chacho. After that happened, Matt and Chacho were taken to a pit of whale bone that no one how deep and were thrown into it with both their wrists taped together. By the next day, Matt was able to escape but couldn’t find Chacho. He ran and got help only to find out that the people in the dormitory had taken out all the keepers and they all had been rescued. Matt had been able to then make it to his friend, Maria, who lived in San Luis. When they found Matt they were able to give him a proper meal other than plankton. All actions have consequences whether good or bad, in this case, Matt does leads from one thing to another. The start, after doing the same thing in school every day, not snapping talked for the first time in a long while with a hatred towards his new teacher and how he is a “bad clone” (Farmer 73). After Mattix version, he started to talk more more where kept learning more. This led to being mean to María and stealing her dog; which later dies and Matt is blamed for the death. Additionally, after El Patrón entered the hospital for being sick, Matt was being hunted down to go and help him. Sadly, Matt knew what this meant, that he was going to be used as parts to keep El Patrón alive. When Matt relieved this, he decided to run away with María, not to the “oasis”, but to “dadas hovercraft” so they can go an live at María’s forever (Farmer 218). Unfortunately, his plan fails and is captured. He is then told to be executed, but Tam Lin could never do that so he let Matt go. Matt arrived at an orphanage where he talked back to the keepers and was given the name “aristocrat”, then the other boys began to respect him saying he has more “nerve than a herd of bulls” (Farmer 275). Before Matt met them he was extremely lonely. He was so lonely he used to talk to his stuffed animals. “ They weren’t real animals.” (8) Once he met them Matt became much more social and talkative. He couldn’t even stop talking.

Matt starts out at the physiology level, and is a dynamic character. He is living in a old run-down house, and barely has enough food and water to support himself and his family. This show us that he is on the physiology level because he only has all the necessities for life like food and water but really doesn’t have much of anything else. By the end Matt moves all the way up to the love/ belonging level. He has caring and loving friends named Kira and Thomas, who would do anything to protect him. He now has someone to care for him and protect him.

Throughout this hard time, however, Matt still sees the positive side of the situation, and he finally feels accepted and loves having friends. However, some believe that Matt should not have been given this responsibility, while others believe that he should have been given this responsibility. Matt’s dad should have left him alone in the woods for three reasons. He believed that Matt would convincingly prove he was adequately trained, responsively protect his family’s investments, and successfully develop opportunities for growth. The first reason Matt’s dad should have left Matt at the homestead was he was adequately trained. All spring Matt worked along side his dad, clearing the land, building the cabin, and planting the crops.
