Study design
This was a multicentre, descriptive, non-interventional, prospective observational study performed between October 2012 and December 2014. A cross-sectional study was conducted to investigate the current prescription pattern of adjuvant chemotherapy for gastric cancer with a longitudinal survey to assess the physician’s reason and satisfaction associated with the selected regimen, and treatment compliance.
Selection of site and patients
The sites with physicians qualified to prescribe adjuvant chemotherapy to gastric cancer patients with expertise under healthcare system were selected. The inclusion criteria were histologically confirmed gastric cancer patients receiving adjuvant chemotherapy after surgery, who have signed the
2. Natives worked on the plantations. Slaves from Africa were brought over to Brazil when the native workers died. Eighty-two percent of the population in Brazil trace their ancestry back to the days of slavery.
In the character Adam Trask in the Novel East of Eden, John Steinbeck creates a fragile son trying to impress his war obsessed father while dealing with his aggressive younger brother. As Adam’s father tries to prepare them for the army, Adam learns that he does not want to follow in his father's footsteps and does not want to face the hardship of war.
In the science of Psychology, observations and inferences are equally important. Observation is the act of perceiving, of noticing, of watching something closely. On the other hand, inference is looking at the evidence in front of you and making a deduction of your own based on what you see. When somebody observes something or someone they just state the facts as they appear before their eyes, whereas in inference they reach a conclusion by assuming or deducting things as well. For example, an observation would be “
Zhu conducted a study to compare the survival rate of patients with colorectal cancer and were treated with a systemic drug, which was oxaliplatin, and those who were treated with CRS-HIPEC. The study showed that those patients who received systemic chemotherapy had an average survival of 24 months, while those who received CRS-HIPEC had a survival of 63 months.16 Randomised studies and other cohort studies have provided encouraging information on the overall survival in patients who have undergone CRS-HIPEC treatment with or without early postoperative intraperitoneal chemotherapy (EPIC), as compared to those who obtained systemic
My participant observation research project is on sex offenders. A few topics I would be interested in is different type of offenders, such as pedophilic and non-pedophilic. I know sex offending is horrible all together but I really hate when I hear about children and teens being hurt. My questions would be what causes their urge to offend children? How do they know the victim? How to help the offender?
This lab lacked an experimental hypothesis but an observational hypothesis was formed. The observational hypothesis mirrored the end results of how the offspring has short tandem repeats with the correct sire; not including the dam. Sire 2 and its offspring shared short tandem repeat 3, short tandem repeat 6, and short tandem repeat 8. The results are important because they show how an offspring obtains its DNA complexion from its parents. It is important to classify DNA because the fundamental purposes are based upon examining the prearranged short tandem repeats and forming an understanding of how gel electrophoresis works. The findings in this lab help to enhance the understanding of gel electrophoresis. Gel electrophoresis can be used to
To collect data I used two methods, participant observation and surveys. For participant observation, I went to Oliver Hall to get my food and observe other students’ interactions with the workers. I was able to observe and participate six times for about 30 minutes each session, and each time I was able to interact in meaningful and respectful conversations with each worker I came into contact. Since it was my own experience, I was able to take notes after I sat down on the table closest to the entrance, and then I took notes on who walked in, how many people they walked in with, and which worker was working. At first I focused on simple greetings, for example, saying “hello” or “thank you,” but then I was able to go more in depth to seeing which students make an effort to go beyond pleasantries and ask about the worker’s day or tell a joke. When I went to
The usage of cell phones is steadily increasing over the years, especially by teenagers. As statics has shown, teenagers use their phones approximately 7.5 hours. They tend to rely on their cells phones as their means of communication, instead of having a face-to-face conversation. Learning about all this information, I choose to run my own naturalistic observational study on this topic. The study I decided to do is which gender in the teenage age range tends to use their phones more often when they are with others compared to when they are alone. The hypothesis I had was that teenage females tend to use their phones more than teenage males. Yet after the study was completed, my hypothesis was proven wrong. It was shown that males tend to use
As far as the observational model, managing or adhering to the treatment plans cannot be observed directly. Individual and group session for asthmatics will help to create a positive attitude, social interaction and aid in adhering to treatment. Self- management will be used to help one to accept responsibility for their behavior and well-being. They will be able to distinguish the effect their behavior may have on their health; as well as, the consequences that may result from that behavior. The program will have to rely on self -monitoring and some type of contract between child/parent, to help the child stay on track with their plan of care. This can be monitored by setting goals, self-evaluations and reinforcements. Self-Efficacy can
We calmly utilize observational information routinely in our everyday individual basic leadership. It includes constructing choices with respect to what we have watched. This task concentrates on the utilization of an observational review, which we utilize each day, however, not really intentionally as a component of a predetermined assessment process. Information can be gathered in a variety of ways (Quantitative, 2017).
The average age at the time of diagnosis (N=12.52) with a (SD=3.64) and the mean number of years since completion of last protocol (N=12) with a (SD=3.28). The participant sample is primarily Caucasian (N=200,56%), with the representative of African American (N=93,26%), Asian (N=18,5%), Hispanic (N=22,6%), other (N=19,5%) backgrounds (one missing data). Initial cancer diagnoses were: solid and soft tissue tumors (Osteosarcoma, Ewing’s sarcoma, Wilms tumor; N=225,63%), lymphomas (Hodgkin’s, Non-Hodgkin’s; N=47,13%), leukemias (ALL-Acute Lymphocytic, AML-Acute Myeloid, CML- Chronic Myelogenous; N=34,9%), central nervous system tumors (N=47,13%).
I found that the participant observation method was the most helpful and easiest method to use. I was able to talk with the firemen about their experiences and see how they interacted. I also worked out with them and sat around talking with them. This method allowed me to get information about their interactions because I could easily observe them talking amongst themselves and to me. One of the downsides of this method was that I could not record information as I was observing. Writing down what they were saying and what was going on would seem rude and would be hard to do. I had to wait until leaving the firehouse before recording what happened. This led to more vague information because of forgetting things.
Observational studies and randomized trials both try to gather information to evaluate the effectiveness of medicine. Observational studies attempt to evaluate the effects of medicine by studying large groups of people and tracking them over a certain period. Randomized trials learn about the effects by randomly assigning to receive either a drug that is being tested or a placebo. Both observational studies and randomized trials were used to study the effects of hormonal replacement therapy on women; however, they yielded very different results.
The third conversation took place on February 17, 2016; the length of our conversation was 25 minutes and the topic we discussed was emotions.
Cancer is among one of the most deadly diseases along with diabetes to set foot on this planet. Breast cancer is the most common for women and has accounted for more than 190,000 diagnoses in the year of 2009 alone (Susan, 2009). Treatment advances have been taking into action and further research has been done to minimize the total amount of patients in treatment. Even then, Cost of treatment has been a factor to some patients because those seeking medical attention are not aware of the expenses up front. While bladder cancer has become increasingly more expensive, is has reached from four billion $USD and now estimated to about five billion by 2020 (2014). Minor setbacks have been present when dealing with radiation therapy (RT) and chemotherapy (CT). Radiation toxicities have been common with RT, therefore, patients experience some sort of symptoms. Treatment objection highly depends on the area of the tumor as well as the stage. According to Scandinavian Journal of Caring Sciences (2012) Living with side effects from cancer treatment – a challenge to target information. “Chemotherapy for breast cancer or colorectal cancer influences nutrition due to nausea and vomiting”.
