There are many factors that I can improve on in the future for the next observations. First of all the organization of the data along with the time measurement are improvements that can be made. Instead of measuring five minutes I would measure every 15 minutes, making it four rounds in one hour. Within that hour we can also use a timer so that we don’t lose track of time. Also the time that we had to measure was on a Monday and Wednesday, for the next observation I would add in a Tuesday or Thursday. Since the observation was done on a campus we didn’t get different age ranges besides the college age. By measuring data at a Chic-Fil-A in the public we would get a wider range of ages, genders, and race. The diversity level was also low so in …show more content…
I have learned the hard way that it is better to just bring your own lunch then wait for the lines at Chic-Fil-A or other restaurants to go down. By the time that we get our food we only have a couple of minutes before our next class. There is so much activity to measure in that hour and in that place. The theme from this observation was gender, age and race majority that ordered at Chic-Fil-A. The majority of the students who ordered here make up the 72% population who are white at CMU, therefore it was not a surprise that they were the majority of the clients (College Factual, 2013). But there are about 8% more females on campus, but males ordered more than females (College Factual, 2013). To find out why they chose to eat at Chic-Fil-A would be a different research project. I am researching the gender, age, and race of the people at the university center that order Chic-Fil-A. I decided to research this because I have noticed the crazy long line during lunch ever since they opened the restaurant in the beginning of the year. I thought it would be interesting to learn which students at the school are the top buyers. Eating patterns are something that I was able to see during this observation. With all the new fast food, corporate restaurants that are coming to campus it’s easy for students to get fed at a faster
Have you ever met someone who hates Chick-Fil-A? Probably not, right? Chick-Fil-A’s success in this area is all thanks to it’s founder, Truett Cathy. In his autobiography, Eat Mor Chikin® Inspire More People, Cathy explains how he came from humble beginnings, but rose up to create millions and billions of dollars in the fast food industry. His business ideas are all fairly simple, but revolutionary. Values he has put in place have built the company up to be extraordinary. This book was entertaining: he described the precedent that CFA would only hire people who deserved the job and could do it well, how he ensured that the company was privately owned so the owners would care about it as much as he did, and how he ensured his company would give back to the community and to God the blessings they have received. I think this is a great book for anyone, especially for someone who adores Chick-Fil-A like me!
S. Truett Cathy founded Chick-fil-A in 1967. Cathy is the founder, chairman, and CEO of Chick-fil-A. The first Chick-fil-A restaurant was opened in Atlanta’s Greenbriar Shopping Center. In 2005, Chick-fil-A had sales of $1.975 billion, which landed them as being the “second-largest quick-service chicken restaurant chain in the United States” (Perreault, Cannon, & McCarthy, 2012, p. 529). Throughout 37 states and Washington, D.C., there are 1,250+ Chick-fil-A restaurants.
Former owner Samuel Truett Cathy was well known for his Christian values and wanted to incorporate them in his restaurant. Unlike many fast-food restaurant, all Chick-fil-A locations are closed on Sundays, as well as Christmas and Thanksgiving due to his religious beliefs. In fact, his morals can be exemplified in the purpose statement for Chick-fil-A. Also, Cathy believed that Sundays are supposed to be spent in worship and time with an individual’s beloved family. According to Green, (2014), the headquarters of Chick-fil-la displays several Bible quotes and crosses and even a four feet tall statue that depicts Jesus washing the feet of a disciple, which signifies as a symbol of servant leadership.
Valerie I agree that it is wise to have faith in God even from a business standpoint. It is often hard in today’s society though to put God first in the decision making. I remember back in 2012 when Chick-fil-A was going through a hard time because one of the chief operating officers (Dan Cathy) made a remark about opposing same-sex marriage. He has his right to state an opinion but having friends that are lesbian and gay I had to side with my friends. The remarks seemed to come from a place of hate and he offended so many people by his statement. I do believe that Christians should not hide their beliefs but sometimes in a business setting one person who states an opinion could wreck the business and ultimately leave a Christian owned company
I really enjoyed your discussion board. I knew about Chick-fil-A being a religious company but did not know about any of the others you mentioned. I really think it is important to find a job that can provide understanding about religion. Having worked at Cracker Barrel for 5 years and being unable to have Sunday mornings off work I really can’t wait to work for a company one day that honors Sunday mornings off. I feel like we give so much of our lives to our jobs but we don’t really think about who we might be working for. What is our job contributing to the community that we might not agree with? I know for a fact my job at a cable company does not go along with my personal values. We have adult movies for rent and I often get uncomfortable
At Chick-fil-a we observed a total of 28 people at 10 different tables, and of those 10 tables, 7 tables had at least 1 person on their phone and 3 tables had no one on their phone. Of the 7 tables with people on their phone 10 out of 10 of the people at the tables were on their phones, only two of them were clearly older than 50. The 3 tables where people didn’t use their phone 8 out of the 12 people were clearly older than 50 and not on their phones. At chipotle 5 tables had at least one person on their phone and 5 tables had no one on their phone. We observed 32 people total and only 10 people were on their phones. None of those ten people were clearly older than 50, and 15 of the people without phones were clearly older than
An email invitation with survey link was sent to panel members, where they were randomly assigned to view one of five menu boards, which differed in types of labeling; and instructed to make a meal selection as if they were at fast food restaurant chain. Also, respondents had to fill out a questionnaire at the
For many previous years, Anaheim High school has had a couple lunch system changes finally settling on two lunches, both being half an hour long. With both lunches only being half an hour long, for certain, more than one thousand students being in each, imagine the lunch lines! Making line to get your lunch takes already about fifteen minutes, half of a person’s time already, which leaves little time for a student to enjoy their so called meal and free time with friends.Based on other student’s experiences dealing with school lunch, one can rightfully assume that high schoolers would much rather hold in their hunger until after school rather than have the food being provided. There is not a single day that goes by in which a high schooler does not complain about the “worst than jail” food being served to them. This proposal will go into detail about why having an hour off-campus lunch can increase healthier eating habits between the undergraduates of Anahiem High School. In this layout, you will read about the issue of why we believe off- campus lunch would be a healthier choice for Anaheim High school students, you will also encounter our plan of how we intend to carry out this idea, what exactly needs to be done, with the help of who, and so on.
Notably, with technology advances, everything has become so easy and fast such that we all want every other aspect of our lives to assume a similar concept, and fortunately, the fast food restaurants provide a suitable means of satisfying our hungry stomachs as fast and easy as possible. Surprisingly, most people have adapted a lifestyle that incorporates fast food chains as an important element. For instance, instead of making coffee at home in the morning, I buy coffee on my way to college, for lunch, I buy a sandwich or hamburger from a food truck, and in the evening after a tiring exhaustive day, I order pizza for supper from Pizza Hut. Arguably, food take-outs are part my daily routine, which serves the purpose efficiently but barely sufficiently.
In addition to Balko's claims, Carol Ann Marples and Diana-Marie Spillman conducted a survey for high school students. Due to the lack of participation, the students were asked what their attitude were toward school lunches. The article states, "The quality and variety of foods offered were significant factors affecting the students' decision to participate" (Marples and Spillman). Marples and Spillman's point is that the students are less likely to purchase low-quality foods. Another constraining factor is the variety of foods the school's cafeteria provides. These factors conclude that our spending to "manipulating the array of food options" (467) is unnecessary since students are choosing to not participate.
Looking at Chick-fil-A consumers specifically, 72 percent of consumers who visited Chick-fil-A most often come from south part of the United States. Of Chick-fil-A consumer, 73.5 percent are white and 69 percent have received at least some level of college education. Those between the ages of 18-49 are Chick-fil-A top consumers, with 30-34 year olds being the age range with the most consumption at 11.2 percent. This is largely due to the fact that this is the age range where people become parents and have children living in their household. Besides, quick food service like Chick-fil-A accommodate the need of people from age of 30-34, who are mostly employed and have a quick pace
Chick-fil-A was the last fast food restaurant I decided to grab food from. I usually do not eat at fast food places, but I was starving, it was super late, and I just got out of work. I knew that a fast food place would be the best option for me because of the time and wanting something quick. Situational influence definitely had a lot to do with me deciding to eat at a fast food place. Time being a big factor because not that many places other than fast food restaurants are open late hours. I chose to eat at Chick-fil-A opposed to a place like Taco Bell is because I believe Chick-fil-A is more on the healthier side. Our society today is all about eating healthy, so I wanted to make the best decision in the situation I was in. Our culture today definitely influenced in going with chick-fil-A rather than Taco Bell or McDonald’s.
The purpose of my paper is to study the motivations in food choices of college students to see how college life and time affect eating habits. Students often must balance busy lives and have limited income, so money and time often are critical when deciding what to eat. The main concepts of my research question have to do with what causes people to eat healthily or unhealthily. The point is to try to understand what influences people’s eating habits, primarily how social class and time influence eating habits. Healthy food is often much more expensive than unhealthy alternatives. Social inequality affects many different aspects of people’s lives. I am trying to figure out to what extent social inequality and time affect the eating habits
The fast food industry has been growing dramatically during the last few years. For this reason, we should try to find out what are the several factors why fast food consumption keeps growing among young people and adults. Therefore, as we have seen, the popularity of fast food is spreading rapidly among many people due to the following three main reasons: good taste, convenient time, and price. Personally, working for a fast food restaurant for a brief moment in my life, I can attest to this. Marketing also plays a big part to more people eating fast food. It’s in our culture in America to expect fast food companies to market and strategize their ways to make us, the consumers, to buy more food and consume more food so they can make more profit. Especially now with commercials and social media. The fast food industry has thrived in the modern era. It’s thriving so much, the industry is growing faster than the U.S economy, at
The availability of fast food outlets has led to reduced fast food prices as individuals end up spending a small amount of money to get different types of fast food products. This is different from the traditional food preparation process, which take a lot of time, energy and resources to prepare a meal. Similarly, consumers, particularly students and working individuals do not have enough time to prepare food at home, which explains why they choose to go for fast food (Brindal 7). Despite these attractive characteristics, rapid availability of fast food is increasingly being linked to a major decline in healthy food choices. With millions of low-income populations relying on many several types of fast foods that are readily available in the neighborhoods, people have increasingly lacked
