Naomi Campbell Receives the CFDA Fashion Icon Award
Practically everyone in the fashion world knows who Naomi Campbell is. The supermodel is this year’s recipient of the CFDA Fashion Icon Award. In the 90’s, Campbell defined the term glamazon.
She became a huge part of a decade of milestones through her appearances in Versace fashion shows and also made a cameo in George Michaels’ music video. Her relevance in the fashion industry never seems to decline even after three decades later. She truly is deserving of the icon award.

Campbell was refreshing to see and she fit anywhere. By the mid-90’s, she was already able to expand her portfolio.
She became the first black model to grace the cover of French Vogue. Campbell aslo became the first black model to open for Prada’s fashion show. She became a staple in many runways as well as ad campaigns for big named brands such as Fendi and Ralph Lauren to name a few.
Her career also had its setbacks. In 2006, she was sentenced to community service after a controversy broke out involving her housekeeper. Issues of her anger management was revealed after the incident as well as substance abuse. Even though her image was tainted with controversy, the supermodel’s career continues to soar.
According to Daniel Day, a couturier, Campbell will do whatever it takes to prove herself to everyone. She understands the perceptions and how it affects her which is why she is willing to play against it.
According to Beth Hardison who became a mentor to Campbell for the next three decades of her career, she admires the supermodel’s spunk and the way she stands up for herself.
