Next, I would do an extensive amount of research on the subject to make sure that I know enough about the subject to write a complete paper about it. My first step in the writing process has remained relatively the same. I begin by reading the assignment sheet, and then begin brainstorming topics that I could use for the essay. Usually I come up with two or three ideas for me to explore, in case one topic does not have enough information to turn into a good paper. After thinking of a few ideas, I pick one idea that I think is the best, and I try to come up with a basic outline of the paper. Then, I search on Google and read a few articles that I find to see what information is available on the topic and how I can use the information in my paper. It is at this point where I decide whether or not to go ahead with the topic depending on what I find. If I continue on, I widen my search to databases and focus on more credible internet

When beginning to write an essay everyone has their own method of doing so. Some may like to brainstorm while others may prefer to go straight into writing about their topic. I personally beginning every essay by collecting ideas about my topic before coordinating them into a type of diagram, next I proceed to do my rough draft before revising over the paper and finally composing my final draft. The point of the writing process is to help break everything down so ideas can be organized and everything can make perfect sense for not just the writer but also the reader.

The writing process I use is very similar to the writing process mentioned in the article, “The Writing Process in 5 Steps” written by Ali Hale. When first given an assignment, I will brainstorm at least three to five main points I want to talk about. Once establishing those points, I will plan out three sub points to support each paragraph. After having a layout of the points I want to write about, I will begin working on a rough draft. During this step, my main goal is to turn my ideas into a more detailed sentence.

Outline, planning, revising, rough and final draft, grading. This is the typical process for writing an essay, I however as a young high school student never followed this. I started with an idea in my head and go on from there. I never considered a need to plan and prepare an outline, just to write a rough draft that I would have to revise, draft, and draft again. It would just be easier to start writing the final draft first right? No. This class has taught me many strategies on how to accustom my writing to a college level. Over the semester in this class I have grown, learned how to effectively draft, and experienced argumentative writing first hand.

Finding your own writing process is crucial for a writer in order to write a successful paper. Everyone is unique and everyone’s writing process is going to be unique as well. A writer’s notebook is a perfect way for people to record random thoughts, dialogue you hear, and any other ideas you might hear. Brainstorming is a key technique to get started when composing a paper. Brainstorming allows you to think of different topics that would fulfill the requirements needed on your topic assigned. Freewriting, clustering, listing and outlining, and collaborating are also some other techniques that when practiced could come very useful when writing a paper. Having the ability to use either of these five techniques would help tremendously when composing a paper.

After writing these few essays, I understand that there are multiple ways I could have improved when in the process of writing. For example, I could have used more quotes to help solidify my writing and support some of my arguments more, I also could have brought in my experiences with history within school and maybe what I was taught about the Cold War, and lastly I think I could explain some of the major leaders better when using for my argument. Having prior knowledge about this topic would probably be the best way to prepare to revise these several essays that I have written.

Teachers, parents, and friends often tell students exactly what the writing process should entail and how long it should take. However, the older I get, the more I realize that the writing process varies not only from person to person, but also from one writing project to the next. Throughout my years of life, I have written countless papers, ranging from a persuasive speech to an extensive research paper, and each project requires an altered version of my personal writing process. While each individual has his own writing process, there can be many similarities between different writing processes. Finding one’s individual writing process takes trial, error, and repetition. When an individual finally uncovers his unique writing process, better thought, work, and writing is produced.

Over the past four months, I have made great strides as a writer. The area where I have seen the most growth is in my use of the writing process. Prior to my enrollment in this course, I would sit down and write all my papers in one sitting. This class has taught me how to lay out a plan for my papers. I have learned how to effectively brainstorm/research, draft, and revise my writings before I complete them. Also I have learned to not just stop there, instead I am now going back and reflecting on my work after I complete it. This allows me to identify where I prospered and also where my downfalls may have been. With this information, I am able to apply this to future writings of mine; lessons that will stay with me forever.

Writing assignments are absolutely the worst, it is my least favorite thing ever. I am not good at writing, especially on the spot. As soon as I am required to write a paragraph, short story, essay, anything that is not a memo or email, every part me just starts to quiver. Before I can start writing, thoughts of what to write roll around in my head like scatter marbles, trying to come up with what to write. A process that can take anywhere an hour to a day. This shortens if I am even a short story first. Reading a story first release my imagination making my direction much clearer. My writing process is very simple and mostly like the authors in the video. The writing process I use while I write is simple tool to use, it only has 5 parts to it. Everybody process different an author can have also have multi ways to write depending on this subject you are writing on. I have always had a trouble in writing and after taking this GSW course I feel much more confident in my writing abilities and have learned many skills that I will always be able to use in my writing. I feel that over the course of this writing class that I have learned a lot of useful information and have grown as a writer. I have learned many skills that have improved my writing from the sources I use to the styles I write into using visuals in my papers. I have also improved my writing process. I go through many more steps to make sure my writing is to its best. The process in which I choose to write is by creating my thesis statement paragraph, outline my essay, and prepare my rough draft. When creating my thesis statement I think of my main points to talk about. I then think of how I can make my thesis as clear as possible while giving it significance. After my thesis is complete, I begin making an outline for my essay. The thesis acts as my foundation and it guides my writing and organization of the entire essay. Writing a paper on the writing process is pretty hard. The writing process is different from one person to another. You come across questions like, 'What exactly is the writing process?'; and 'Must you follow one persons writing process if yours is different?'; This is where I came across the answer to my questions, write however you wish to write. If one person likes free write first and another person likes to write a draft first, let them do how they please.
