I think that the minimum age requirement for driving shouldn't be raised for many different reasons. When the age requirement is raised it gives many teens less freedom, less time to do things, and also if they take take college classes they need to get there. With all these disadvantages they would have they would have to lean on others to get them places. If this age limit were to raise the teens get no freedom. Now teens go to the mall, go get ice cream and hang out with friends. If the age limit was 18 they would not get to do any of the fun things they normally do. When this happens they loose connections between them and their friends. Without the freedom of driving at the age of 16 teens will lose even more between their loved
The first reason why they shouldn’t change the driving age is school. If someone missed the bus and their parent is at work, they can just leave at a later time. This will help student teens get more rest and keep them from ruining their project on the bus. This will also help teens avoid fights on the bus. Being able to drive to school is one thing but work is another.
Raising the minimum driving age would significantly incontinence large families, independent youths. The driving age should continue at the mi nimum age that it is currently today. If the minimum age was amplified it would create a huge strain on large families that must depend on the eldest child
Due to state safety concerns many states have raised the minimum legal age to drive. The state of Virginia, which is where I live, is now thinking of doing the same. This state should be looked at with careful consideration. The state of Virginia will look at all reasons why it should not be raised before coming to a conclusion. The driving age should not be raised because it would be much harder to get a job, having another driver in a large family can help with day to day tasks, and social freedom and growing up.
Raising the legal driving age from 17 to 18 is unwise as 17 year olds have a much more focused mind at this point in their lives as they are not consumed by necessities such as year 12 results, planning for the future and either obtaining or maintaining employment. Continuing to keep the driving age at 17 will lower stress in teens as it is one part of their lives that they have control over and gives them freedom which leads onto my next point, freedom.
Raising the age was not an idea based on opinions. Over the years many people and organizations have recorded facts and statistics to support their claims. An example shown on CBS News, shows that “More than 5,000 U.S. teens die each year in car crashes. The rate of crashes, fatal and nonfatal, per mile driven for 16-year-old drivers is almost 10 times the rate for drivers ages 30 to 59, according to the National Highway Safety Administration” (CBS NEWS). One huge influence on the topic was the Insurance Institutes for Highway Safety, they created a seventeen page memo filled with statistics and examples of how raising the age is a necessity. This is not the first attempt to use statistics to support the appeal to raise the age. The Seattle Times states, “The example the institute uses most prominently is New Jersey, the only state with a minimum driver's license age of 17. The report cited a study from 1992-96 in which the rate of crash-related deaths among 16- and 17-year-olds was 18 per 100,000 in New Jersey, compared with 26 per 100,000 in Connecticut, which had a minimum driver's license age of 16 and 4 months” (Willette). Overall the argument that raising the age will result in less teen deaths while driving is highly justified. There are frequent examples and a huge amount of research that proves that younger drivers are more likely to cause harm or damage than an older, more experienced driver.
The minimum driving age shouldn’t be raise because student’s will not listen to the law they will drive anyway, that would be bad for the kids parents for letting their child drive, that will also reflect on the Law because since they raise the driving age this was the outcome since their age was raise. Would be having more students going to juvenile detention or even worse getting in car accidents. “Young drivers, between 15 and 20 years old, accounted right now that 6.4 percent of the
It would be Irrational and Ineffective to raise the driving age. Parents would have a huge weight put on their shoulders. Many teenagers would lose nearly all of their privileges. Some may benefit by saying it’s a stress relive to not have teens on the road but many more would disagree.
First reason why I don’t agree to raising the driving age because, parents cannot always be there to pick you up. Some parents may have to work and they cannot leave until they are out of work. If the teen lives close enough to walk home they can do that, but that is not always the
We shouldn’t raise the driving age to 18 because school kids need to drive to get to school events and jobs. Teenagers are becoming independent adults and are learning how to become their own people. According to States Urged to Raise the Driving Age "Parents like the
In the article “Raise driving age to 18 when teens are more responsible” by Alexander he talked about how roads would be a lot safer if we raised the driving age. It would give the kids s chance to learn more about driving safety and rules of the road. The issue of freedom for teens are not gone, they can easily take bus to school or have somebody older to them to school or work with no problem.
Busy parents, a busy young adult life, and mature teens are why the legal driving age should not be raised to the minimum age of eighteen. Sixteen is a traditional milestone in a teens life, why would one want to take that tradition away? All the opportunities sixteen year olds receive driving would be ruined if the driving age is changes to eighteen, which could also ruin a teens future. Driving is an American rite of passage and the system for it is fine just the way it is. Let’s keep the age sixteen sweet and leave the legal driving age
"53% of adults think it's a good idea to raise driving age. It is a current problem because younger drivers will have a hard time making quick decisions to get out of situations." If young drivers are not able to make the decisions then there's a chance that they might hurt others or just get someone killed. One reason is 16 year old brains aren't fully developed another reason is hormones can affect driving skills. Some say it's not a good idea to raise age because children will have to get a ride from parents eventually they will need to drive themselves to events. However, if young children drive they wont know how to act during a road situation. The minimum driving age in Washington state should be raised. The government should raise the
As teenagers get older, they mature, which allows them to make better decisions. Increasing the driving age to 18 could decrease the number of accidents that happen such as racing, texting, goofing around, etc. In the legal side, it would make things a lot easier if an accident occurs because everyone would be an adult, and the court system could have an easier time with the case.
With sixteen year olds driving there is a higher risk of accidents. Even though some sixteen year olds drive safe there is a big amount that does not. Therefore the driving age limit should be raised just by 2 years.
Society gives teenagers at the age 16 to be reckless and immature. In a handful of cases that is true, a majority of teenagers are very responsible and ready to take the next step into adulthood early. Raising the minimum driving age to 18 would deprive them this chance, and therefore should be kept at 16.
