There are over a million species of animals in this world, and chances are you have not heard about a majority of them. In fact, even scientists claim that they have not been able to discover all of the animal species on this planet so far. They discover new ones every year! Some animals are cute and cuddly, while others are downright weird. In this article, we will list top seven weird animals that you probably never heard about. Number Seven: The Mexican Axolotl Salamander The Mexican axolotl salamander looks weirdly cute at the first glance. It has ghostly features which also remind you of the pokemon characters, thanks to their funny-looking faces and limbs. They are found only in the lake complex of Xochimilco which is near Mexico City and unlike other salamanders, they live permanently in water. Very rarely would you find an axolotl outside of water and that too, at a mature stage of their life. Although they are typically black or brown, the albino variety is more common, which is also quite weird. They can be quite large, and can grow up to a foot! It is neotenic, meaning that even when it grows into an adult, it retains its juvenile traits. Those include its dorsal fin which runs along the length of its body and its feather-like external gills which protrude from the back of its head. …show more content…
They are found in South America, Central America and South-east Asia. It has four species and all of them are either endangered or vulnerable. Number Five: The
Habitat: Their habitats are on crops, arable and waste land, gardens. Commonly on footpaths and in
All species are found in North America and tend to be nocturnal, but they inhabit relatively unique niches, which is evident in various minute differences between the species, including fur and nose size. C. townsendii tends to live in evergreen forests that have a moderate climate while C. mexicanus lives in higher, more humid and mountainous habitats. For this reason, C. townsendii has a darker, thicker coat; not only does it act as better natural camouflage, but the coarse, thick hair protects it well from the environment. C. refenisquii is found primarily in the Southwestern United States, but migrates frequently due to the changes in
In the past we have tried to contain these Cane Toads by setting up traps in the dry-seson however many blue tongue lizard got caught in them. They also tried to set up fences around areas that only have 1 or 2 freshwater lakes in them so that the babies cannot walk away from the area. This worked but we cannot simply fence up all the water sources in the top half of Australia. But I think we should create a poison on the cane toads. Because the other thing that eats Cane Toads is Cane Toads; therefore if we create a poisson on them we are able to get rid of many toads. The first step in creating this plan would be to make the poission. Secondly we would give the poison in a syringe to every homeowner in Northern Queensland so that they can
The Tongo lizard is a multi-coloured , smooth , lamellate dragon like , endangered lizard. This speicies of lizard is found in the amazon rainforest and eats star fruit and nuts but is rarely seen due to major endangerness . This animal is endangered ; hunters kill the Tongo lizard because of its amazing skin which can be used to make likerish and the skin makes a lovely wall paper , according to Simon Cal !
Last Seen- Has a cosmopolitan global range, and is found in all tropical and subtropical oceans, even the Arctic Circle. Was federally registered on the endangered species list on June 2, 1970.
Adaptive radiation of different organisms have occurred throughout geological time through the filling of ecological niches. Organisms different from one another are capable of radiating greatly, as they evolve traits that allow them to thrive better in their environment. The Anolis lizards of the Caribbean islands are a great example of a single genus to have radiated not once, but multiple times through very similar mechanisms. Different populations of the Anolis phenotypically vary in their morphological traits to facilitate adaptation to particular niches. These phenotypic variations have evolved in convergence in more than one occasion, as recently discovered fossil specimens show similar patterns in morphology to modern Anolis.
Humans have been giving common names to plants and animals for as far back as cavemen go. It has been no different for the American Alligator commonly known as the “gator”. The name “Alligator,” according to Kelby Ouchley, is an Anglicized term from the Spanish word “lagarto” (lizard). This name can be traced back to early Spanish explorers in North America, who came across the giant lizard looking type of animal. In 1802 the renowned French herpetologist, Francois Marie Daudin, officially described the American Alligator as Alligator Mississippiensis. The term Mississippiensis comes from the Mississippi river where many of these lizard like creatures were found and the Latin term ensis meaning “belonging to.”
The Mexican Axolotl is a strange and rare animal. It is a small, fish-looking creature with legs and
This species habitat is the longleaf pine-wiregrass flatwoods. The adult salamanders eat earthworms, insects, and are likely to eat other invertebrates as well. The larvae eat a variety of aquatic invertebrates, especially crustaceans. The Flatwood Salamander’s population is roughly several thousand, and is decreasing. Part of the community that the salamanders live in consists of decaying logs, vegetation, earthworms, and insects. Part of the ecosystem that they live in consists of decaying logs, vegetation, earthworms, insects, crayfish burrows, forest fires, and shallow ponds.
Where do they live? They live in Africa mostly but they can also be found in Asia. They can be
An axolotl is a species of amphibian that is found in the higher altitude lakes of Mexico and South America, but is now more commonly found in a fish tank in a local household anywhere in the world. Axolotls are Carnivorous, which means that they eat other animals: they mainly feed on insects, worms, and mollusks like mussels, clams, and cockles. Axolotls can be closely related to the tiger salamander. The only difference between them though, is that the axolotl keeps its tadpole tail for its whole life. The feather like headpiece around the axolotls head is actually gills, which allows the axolotl to breathe underwater. Axolotls can also regenerate and regrow limbs that have been damaged or removed. An axolotl’s life span is up to 25 years,
Nutria once lived only in southern South America, but have now traveled around the world. In many areas including Canada and more than a dozen U.S. States.
Alpaca live in the mountainous regions of Bolivia, native to all of South America, these creatures are like South American Camels and are herbivores. Jaguars are the largest cats in South America, they are meat eaters and prefer to live in treetops in the Amazon Rainforest. Chinchillas are a common household pet, but they are in danger. They used to live all over South America, but are now only known to exist in small pockets in Bolivia and Chile, they are omnivores that will eat fruit and bugs. The Jaburi is a large headed stork native to only Bolivia. It eats fish and
