Medical Laboratory Technician Assistant Program

My short term career goals are: Graduate with the Associate of Science in nursing from Motlow in May 2018.

My first attempt at a career was in the military, which ended with a medical discharge after a knee injury. After a few different jobs, I felt I finally had a career when I found employment as an assembler with Oshkosh Truck. Unfortunately, in June 2014, I was laid off. It was at this time, I decided to return to college. I have always enjoyed technology and science, so I enrolled at a technical college in Fall ’14; completing general coursework, while figuring out which program would be the best fit for me. Then in March ’15 I realized that I wanted some focus in healthcare during a service-learning experience in Jamaica. I will now be starting the Medical Laboratory Technician program in Fall ’16. My educational goals are attending a four year university getting a bachelors degree in science with a minor in chemistry. The career that I have set my heart on is a career in the field of Forensic Drug Analysis. I want to become a forensic laboratory technician. A forensic drug laboratory technician is a lab technician that gathers evidence from crime scenes and analyzes any and all data that is retrieved from said evidence. I am currently doing my masters in Applied Engineering and Technology Management at Murray State University and it’s my second semester at Murray. This program has been designed in such a way that people who want to improve their knowledge of Industrial Management, Leadership and Technology will prefer it. This program is mostly for the students having backgrounds in technology, engineering, science, or business management. My long standing goals comprises of rising with a company where I can take more responsibilities, learn new work and contribute as much as I can. I want to see myself as a top performing leader in a well-developed company as well as I plan to enhance my skills and continue my involvement in the professional companies.

My long term goal is to be able to work for an interior furnishing or décor company like Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware or Room and Board. I would like to do the set visuals for the catalog shoot. To achieve this I plan to work hard to make myself marketable and stand out in the industry. My next step to achieve my goal is to network with people within these companies, while still keeping my options open for other job prospects. After I graduate I hope to work within one of these companies as an assistant visual merchandiser and work my way up the ladder. By starting at the bottom you learn every job, the required tasks and the company’s structure. With this goal I intend to finish my degree, continue learning the craft and skills, networking and eventually working for one of these companies.

I intend to study Medical Laboratory Science at South Dakota State University. My goal is to acquire my bachelor’s degree by completing four years in that program to earn a degree that would allow me to find a high paying career. An additional perk to my career path would be the fact that Medical Laboratory Science positions are highly in demand in South Dakota. I do plan to live and work in South Dakota after I graduate. I wish to gain a lot of experience out of this education, and gain the ability to help save lives by diagnosing and researching in a medical setting.
