While working at The Scholarship Foundation of St. Louis I wanted to do more within the organization; however, leadership roles require higher education. Therefore, I decided to go back to school to pursue my Master’s degree with a focus on Nonprofit Leadership Management. I believed this degree would allow me to follow my passion to work in nonprofits. I was first introduced to Orvin Kimbrough while working at The Scholarship Foundation. He has one of the most successful stories as a former recipient of the Foundation’s Interest-free Loan Program. While I worked at the Foundation, Mr. Kimbrough was working as the Vice President of Major Gifts and Planned Giving at United Way. I chose Mr. Kimbrough to write about because of all he has accomplished throughout his career. His success has inspired me to follow the career path of my choosing, as we both are recipients of The Scholarship Foundation's Interest-free Loan Program. This program …show more content…
Since I was so young doctors never thought of the possibility that I could have gal stones. Over the next five years I endured constant stabbing pains that no doctor could diagnose. During my senior year of high school, when the pain became absolutely unbearable, I had my appendix removed after a week of tests in hopes the reason for my pain was internal that no scan or test could diagnose. To the surgeon's surprise, a surgical clip had been found left inside me from my previous surgery, five years prior. This clip had traveled from my pancreas to my appendix causing stabbing pains along the route. This experience taught me how to deal with a traumatic event, which is one reason I wanted to work in the nonprofit sector; to help those that are unable to help themselves. However, the next traumatic event that occurred finalized my decision
I never thought I would someday become a role model to nearly 12,000 Missouri high school students. These students are not any ordinary students; they are members of an organization that is truly the ultimate leadership experience. This organization is known as the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) and is a student led organization, based off of family and consumer sciences education. FCCLA has given me unbelievable opportunities! But of all of the opportunities this organization has provided me with, serving as a FCCLA state officer has definitely been the best. However, becoming a state officer wasn’t easy and required a long process.
It is my honor to recommend Keely Stofer for a Hot Springs Rotary Club scholarship. I have known Keely for over five years since I began teaching in the Lake Hamilton School District in 2011. Two years later, as a ninth-grader, Keely was my top oral communications student and also competed in and won the Arkansas Optimist Oratorical Contest.

I am honored to be one of the recipients of the Lawrence J. Sonneman and Laurelle A. Sonneman Endowed Memorial Scholarship. Thanks to your generous support I am the first in my family to attend college.
Just like I am better able to serve the Head Start families due to my educational background on the inner workings of poverty; learning about the inner workings of non-profits will qualify me as a leader who can effect change on a larger scale within ABCD. I want to attend this program to learn the detailed, complex elements and skills that are necessary to form the big picture that is human services management. New knowledge of management and finance will make me a multifaceted asset to
I reflect scholarship in my life by not only pursuing educational experiences that directly relate to my long-term career goal, but
With this degree, I expect to gain a better sense of policy with nonprofit management, and to concentrate on what it takes to build effective, multi-cultural organizations, as well as what it takes to run them. My goal is to open and manage community centers for inner-city youths. This is important to me because there are students who excel academically, but live in unsupportive and poverty-stricken neighborhoods. Through my experiences working with inner-city adolescents, I have met students distracted and disconnected from their academics because of the lack of resources within urban communities. It is important to understand time as an asset; students spend one-third of their day in school, while using the other two-thirds ineffectively outside of school. My community centers will offer a space where students can find refuge and a safe environment to seek guidance. Through recreational and after-school programs, along with parental and family support, I intend to give students the life tools necessary to succeed. While creating my community center, I will be able to show my talents and knowledge to the best of my ability while providing help to youths and families. The leadership development and supplementary training in budgeting, accounting, principles of management, and policy practice will help me conceive and carry out future solutions. Most importantly, I will make the centers accessible and affordable for

College tuition for students to uncommon schools just got a little easier thanks to Keith and Keely Mann. Effective in 2016 Keith and Keely Mann will be establishing a $5,000 scholarship for professional achievement. Students interested in benefiting from these funds will need to complete an essay of 1,000 words. The essay should elaborate on the benefits of a college degree and how it could be used to help the student further their career. The scholarship will continue on an annual basis with winners receiving the nod by the end of March.
Upon speaking to Andrew, I didn't realize that I was speaking to the President of Hofstra University’s ALPFA chapter. He began to tell me about ALPFA and how it's paved his transition from being a student into a professional in the workplace. From that moment on, Andrew always provided career guidance, networking help, and acted as a mentor for me whenever I needed it.
During his high school days, he started working for the Gorge’s Motor Co. He discovered his love with the car industry and start selling cars when he was 17 years old. He took permission from his owner to allow him to sell cars. Brandon achieved so much success that he didn’t consider the idea of joining college. Parents didn’t give him an option and he went to Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. His brother was also attending the same university on a tennis scholarship. In 1995 Brandon was graduated with a bachelor’s degree in marketing. Brandon graduated with Honors, and he was also awarded with a distinguished senior’s award. This is an award which is given only to 25 students.
Growing up in a family of nine, my father’s childhood was rough. Money was always scarce and all his family was one another. That was until his dad died in a fatal car accident. My father, being the oldest, started working to provide money for the family. There were weeks when he would exert himself for 80 hours just to make ends-meet. Despite my father’s harsh workload, he pushed himself to excel in school. He managed to maintain his straight ‘A’ record, but college was an expense that would put him into crushing debt. My dad needed somebody who believed in him, somebody who saw him as a strong-willed, rising star that would stop at nothing to prevent him from success. Hariri saw himself in my father. He knew that the only thing holding him back from becoming successful was his financial status. Hariri ended up funding my father a full ride scholarship to the University of Massachusetts, where he completed his four year degree in Engineering. After graduating and gaining work experience, my father was able to land his dream career at Johnson Controls. Rafic Hariri’s generosity towards my dad is priceless. I'll always be grateful for how Rafic Hariri has impacted my father’s life for the
The touches of the needle piercing through my skin and back out was perhaps the grossest yet oddly amazing thing I have ever experienced in my life. Through the thirty minutes on the hospital bed, I had sat through having a stranger sew a stitch on the upper left area of my forehand after coming out of car crash earlier that day. I did not think much of the stitches, but rather, found the fascination upon it. My first initial thought after tracing my fingers on the bumps was how amazing this was, how different it was to know that some stranger did something to me. It even looked pretty cool to show off for all the other kindergartner classmates, watching their face of horror as I walked into the classroom that following school day. They were terrified, I was intrigued, intrigued by the works of someone that knew enough to make my body better.
When I was twelve years old, I obtained my first surgery. I recall feeling frightened yet overwhelmed with the idea of receiving surgery not to mention the risks. My supportive mother was glued to me through the challenging period. Looking back, shoes were squeaking against a polished white floor as individuals with blue scrubs were rushing to ill humans. Beeping machines following the creaky noise when doors open and close. A mixed odor of chemicals, medicine, and sanitizer to prevent viruses from diffusion. An extreme amount of pain on the left portion of my stomach placed me in between life and death.
I was raised with the fundamental notion of service to mankind, I have always been interested in society’s injustices and problems, and being a catalyst for change. This has brought me to applying to the University of Central Florida’s Master of Nonprofit Management program within the School of Public Administration. I am currently a practitioner in Social Work and serve as the Director of Social Services at the Orlando Area Command of The Salvation Army. I have received my bachelors and master’s degree in Social Work from Barry University in Miami, FL.
