In the story Into the Wild there was a guy who graduated in May 1990. His name was Chris McCandless he graduated with a 3.72 gpa. He was offered membership in Phi Beta Kappa but declined, insisting that titles and honors are irrelevant. We believe that his business is interesting, because he not only operates his business in Indiana but he also works in Virginia. He has to make several trips a month to Virginia to oversee projects and things of that nature. One of the great things about his business is that he sometimes is able to take his family along with him to Virginia. This allows him to still have the work-life balance that he needs. As with most entrepreneurs, Brian has to put in long hours. Another thing that is interesting about his business is that he doesn’t have to pay for any kind of marketing. He has been able to use word-of-mouth and networking to generate more customers. Marketing is a big expense for most companies, and it is interesting that he was able to be successful and maintain his business without it.

This advertisement features Arizona Cardinals all-pro wide receiver, Larry Fitzgerald, who “fulfilled the promise he made to his mother by completing his Bachelor in Communication at University of Phoenix. With perseverance, he has now become a role model to others who value higher education.” This is an extremely captivating ad, illustrating Mr. Fitzgerald’s desire to keep the promise he made before his mother’s untimely death, over a decade ago. The target audience for this commercial are adult learners and/or non-traditional students who, for one reason or another, have allowed “life to get in the way,” and did not initially complete their undergraduate degrees. The two elements that make this piece so compelling are one, that he is a world class athlete, and multi-millionaire, who, despite his wealth, took the initiative to finish his degree. Secondly, that honoring a promise he made, so many years ago, will also set the appropriate expectation for his own children. This ad is extremely persuasive, because it indicates, that no matter how busy someone gets, with the appropriate mindset and determination, anyone can complete their degree.
Steven is a thirteen-year-old gifted drummer with an imagination that takes him from writing in his daily English journal to musing on his own life. The book is about his experience of the year his five-year-old brother, Jeffrey Alper, gets diagnosed with leukemia. He totally didn’t expect his little brother to get leukemia. This was a big change for him. From worrying about a drumming performance, and attention from Renee Albert, to a huge worry for his brother he had thought would only try to embarrass him. When people from school found out about Stevens sick brother, Steven gets a lot of attention and sympathy from his friends. As time passes and Jeffrey goes to his treatments, Steven stops doing all his school work to only think about his

Theodore was a senior, and the smartest kid in his grade. Since his freshmen year, he took only honors and AP courses; it was rumored that he didn’t have a single A- on his transcript. He had been apart of the Varsity Track team since freshman year, but had never ran a race. His mother was a wealthy entrepreneur, who made the majority of her money selling rubber ducks. His father was a college “packager,” and spent his days telling struggling high school juniors what extracurriculars to take. Most of his clients ended up not getting into college, but he was the only “packager” in the area, so there was no one else to go to. Theodore’s older brother was a senior, graduating from Stanford with a double major in Computational Neuroscience and Political Science.
I have had the opportunity to get to know Zach St. Clair this year during my student teaching at Eisenhower High School. I have Zach in Honors Pre-Calculus and Trigonometry. Zach is a remarkable student that balances academic with extracurricular activities and volunteer work while still holding down a job. Mr. St. Clair is a student that doesn’t find everything come easily to him and has to work for it. At a point in the semester Zach had fallen behind due to his heavy work load and missing an extended period of time due to an illness. Mr. St. Clair worked as hard as anyone at Eisenhower and was able to get his grade from a C to the A he currently holds in a matter of weeks contributing to his 3.56 GPA over his four years.

Through high school he was good with math, and was looking for a job that involved math and money, so he decided to be an accountant. Between his junior and senior year, his dad took him to an actuary firm to see if he would enjoy the work. Spring break of his junior Mr. House and his mother did a tour of colleges in the south which included North Carolina State, Auburn, and Georgia Tech. He remembers coming out of the student center and noticing that Tech did not look like it was in the middle of a city. Through his senior year he was still considering actuary work or possibly engineering, so he applied to NC State and tech knowing that he was in the Presidential Scholar’s program at both schools. His mother found the Presidential Scholars program and helped him apply for it. For the president scholar’s program all of his materials made it to Georgia Tech on time but his essays had been lost in transit, so Georgia Tech gave him another chance to reapply. A couple of weeks after the deadline Mr. House’s original application had arrived at Georgia Tech mangled into pieces with a stamp that said “Damaged by Postal
