During high school, students should be able to show off everything that they have learned, but mandatory writing templates aren't allowing writers in high school to do this.
First of all, you should know how big of a problem these outlines actually are. They limit creativity, and don't allow students to develop their own writing style. For students that are might consider themselves "good" writers, these outlines don't allow them to showcase everything that they know. These outlines also change the way the students organize their thoughts, which will in turn cause the students to write awful papers.

Whenever an assignment was given, I used to just write everything that I could think of, similar to a free write. After doing a free write in my scrap notebook, I would then go back and insert examples from the text to further prove my points. After taking this class, I learned that is the incorrect way to write academic papers and that the best way is to make an outline instead so that I can make sure that every point is proven, clear, accurate, and most importantly understandable. Students are subjected to write an array of essays, but they lack the required tools needed to effectively deliver a great paper. They are struggling to write and teachers are needing to design and conform to their current student’s needs. New methods are created and implemented in order to execute the daunting task of learning how to write a well-developed paper. Practical recommendations are brought forth for teachers to use and good teachers will learn to design instruction and activities based on suitable references. Teachers must set goals and deliver their lesson with specific strategies to meet their objectives. They must learn to improve skills dramatically by observing and modifying the students. Teachers must plan strategies in order to help the struggling students catch up or exceed in their writing skills. They must learn to motivate their students by keeping them engaged throughout the writing process if not they risk losing the student’s ability and focus to do better.

Initially, a writer should do an outline before starting any essay. An outline can help to organize his or her main points in order to build an introduction, body and conclusion. This method of pre writing was something that I had never been exposed to prior to receiving an example outline from Professor Vilceus. By studying the example, I went from zero knowledge about an outline to creating ones that made arranging essay material uncomplicated.

Making several drafts and outlines are very helpful to organize my paper. Before this course, I like to do free write. I just start writing, and add in information while editing. However, I start to create outlines for my writing. I found that creating an outline can help me organize my writing process and provides a full overview of my paper. For me, creating an outline after first draft is more helpful than start with an outline. Below is a picture of my AP outline. I created this outline after my first AP draft.
In high school, I was taught the basic steps of writing, but was never taught how to write a well-developed paper. When I start to write a draft, I usually freewrite. I use that technique, because it was easier to me than brainstorming or following an outline. In order for me to write, I generate ideas on a scrap paper. And draw ideas from that list, the more sub ideas that come from one idea, it’s most likely that I will write about that idea. When I try to write with an outline, I tend to get lower grades, because I do exactly as my teacher tells us to write the paper, but I don’t add any tricks to make my writing style better.
For upcoming classes one aspect of writing that I would like to focus on is my ability to stay on topic. A lot of the time I tend to become so engulfed in one reasoning for my argument that my mind begins to wander elsewhere. Ultimately my essay structure will suffer because of this, so in order to stay more focused I want to start making outlines before I write out my essays. With an outline it will be easier for me to stay on topic since I will have a structure to follow. Also by having an outline I can find my quotes and compose my topic sentences ahead of time, making it easier for me to see if my ideas will fit well together. This will also
