Odysseus’s men are not loyal. They are good people that stuck with him, but they still went behind his back. And thanks to them not being faithful, the outcome for them is pretty bad. The first example is when they got a bag of winds that would have them sail smoothly all the way home. Odysseus told them not to open the bag, and they opened the bag because they thought there was gold in there.

Loyalty is heroic. Loyalty is defined as faithfulness or devotion to a person, cause, obligations, or duties. In Homer's Odyssey one can see loyalty in many forms. Odysseus is loyal to the gods whom he realized held his life in their hands. Penelope was loyal to Odysseus, while trying not to offend the rude suitors. Telemachus was loyal to a father whom he only knew from the stories he had been told. Time and time again we see loyalty in the strongest sense, complete fidelity in time of uncertainty.

Soldiers have admired their enemies for their loyalty to fallen comrades, thousands of stories have been written about the intense loyalty animals portray for their owners, and even companies in the workforce look for loyalty in potential employees. Loyalty has been seen as something that distinguishes the trustworthy from the untrustworthy, and something that sets the great apart from the good. The archetypal hero commonly has a cause, whether it be another person or personal beliefs, that they are loyal to, and this unwavering loyalty is what makes them appear so highly in the eyes of the reader. Loyalty can be found in practically any work of literature, but within The Torah, The Odyssey, and Inanna is the idea that true loyalty, although a rare attribute, is the key to a successful relationship.

What is loyalty? Defined by the Webster dictionary, loyalty is devotion and faithfulness to a cause, country, group, or person. Almost all the characters in the epic show loyalty in the novel: from Odysseus to Penelope, to the suitors, all show faithfulness to their goals. Loyalty can be viewed in many different forms. You can show different people loyalty in many kinds of helpful ways. Loyalty doesn’t have to be from one person to another. In the Odyssey, I felt there was a time when Odysseus was loyal to himself. In the epic, Odysseus stated on page 863, “I stormed that place and killed the men who fought plunder we took and we enslaved the women to make division equal shares to all”.

What does the word loyalty mean to you? Well to me loyalty means caring and never giving up on someone or something. It also stands for commitment, and in the book The Odyssey, loyalty is shown in many way, through love, through fighting, and through waiting. Odysseus wife, Penelope, is loyal to him for many years, and when suitors move in the their castle to take the spot of Odysseus, she still is loyal to him. Penelope is loyal to Odysseus after she wept for 20 years for him to return, avoided marrying a suitor, and tested Odysseus when he returned.

Educated. – One who is loyal, must be educated enough to be someone to rely one. If someone wants to be trusted but is not wise enough to treat their trust correctly, they are not loyal. The loyal person must know how to take things into perspective and know how to relate to the situation and act accordingly.

Loyalty is a broad term, which can be applied to one 's family, their locality or their country. Being a loyal per¬son could mean that they are ready to sacrifice even their own life for the sake of whatever they are loyal to. They bear a moral character. A truly loyal man cannot tempt to be bribed or to deviate from his own path. Loyalty is being absolutely dependable in all circumstances. In this world, there are only a few instances of truly loyal personalities.

Honesty and loyalty are important parts of friendship and life in general. To take those nouns even further you can use integrity. A very technical definition of integrity is adherence to moral and ethical principles or the state of being whole. To me, integrity is being honest and truthful to others and to yourself for a good cause. Integrity is a value that has to come from the heart. You cannot fake or force honesty.
