Introduction:
Social networks are largely organized around users, unlike the web: The web is organized around the content. The participating users join a network, publish their profile and content about themselves and links are usually created to other users with whom they connect with. This will result in a social network providing a foundation for maintaining social relationships by finding other people with similar interests, for locating content that has been endorsed by other users. Facebook, Youtube, Orkut, Flickr, MySpace, Cyworld, LiveJournal etc have exploded in popularity at some point and some of them still continue to remain popular. Similar to these, some online companies deal with buying and selling of products proved to be very successful and have contributed a lot to the success of online networking. Product reviews on Amazon and the reputation mechanism of Ebay contributed to the growth structure of online social networks. Owing to these success stories, social networking has become a subject for many start-up companies offering promising return on interest.
Online social networks have been present since the beginning of Internet, though not in the conventional sense. For example, a social network is formed by the graph that is formed from the exchange of messages between email users. Many popular social networking sites rely on the idea of

In the 1960’s, the first ever email was sent, and this was where online social media began to commence. Although the first recognisable social media website was called Six Degrees, and was not created until 1997. This allowed users to design a profile and chat with other users on the site – however, two years on, in 1999, the first blogging sites started to become popular, which is what started the social media sites that we know today. This lead to social media exploding in popularity, and next is how social media has evolved.
Social networking sites are web based and applications that allows users to communicate via-web to share their content or follow with other users. For example the most well known online networking sites are Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. When you sign up to these sites it asked you to make a profile, which can be time consuming, but you can alter it for your needs as an enjoyment. Online networking has become a very significant piece of social communications inside our society. For example when you meet another person, one of the principal things you do is include them on your friends or followers list on social media. This is a form of communication. We communicate to people every day through all different forms of interpersonal communication.
Because of the development of Internet and social media technologies, there is a new war about business on the global scale, reduce the cost of operations, create effciencies, get more customers and create a new way of business transactions (Clemons, 2009). Social networks have been increasingly used by people all over the world. Surging since the creation of Facebook which now has over one billion active users. These social networks are services that allow individuals to create an online profile and create their own group of friends with whom to share a connection. They also allow users to share ideas, pictures/videos, posts, events, activities and their interests with people in their chosen network. There are many different social networks providing the same basic service to anyone who wishes to use them, but also bringing the same problems and risks.
This defines the basic set up of social networking, a person creates an account to share with friends, co-workers and others which thus creating a network of people that’s spreads information. Many of you might be familiar with social networking sites which include websites like LinkedIn, Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter.
Because of the large numbers are including the feature based on the experience they possess and their willingness to acquire more of experiences in the future. Merriam-Webster describes social networks as “a network of individuals (such as friends, acquaintances, and coworkers) connected by interpersonal relationships” (Social Network 1) There are many people these days who, when they hear social networks they think of the Internet but there are many different types of social networks that were around before the Internet was even invented. Social network existed long before the internet and there are several similarities as well as differences between social networks before and after the Internet. Two examples of social networks before the internet are the telegraph and the newspaper.
With social networks, companies can develop direct interaction with their customers and above all they can create online word of mouth with the tools providing by social networks.
The vast expansion of social networks has been examined over the last half a decade. Social networking involves the use of the internet to connect users with their friends, family and neighbours all the time. Meeting new people is not the primary agenda of the social networking website, although this happnes most. The most known and popular sites of this social networking are Twitter, Facebook, MySpace. Using these sites we can share pictures, videos and many more like organizing events and also play online games. In relation to ecommerce, social networks can provide an earned media for a certain company’s product or services. Earned media in social networks occurs when people, who are also consumers, endorsing or broadcasting a certain product or service to their online friends. This is similar to the word of mouth concept (Rogers 1987) where the users themselves convince other people who they meet, in this case people who are in their network reach. Occasions where a person, who belongs to your network, posts information or an inquiry, such as when they need something or have something they think others may be interested in, which he/she can broadcast to everyone in the network. The notion is we look into the opinions or information from our social networks not because they are the people who are likely to know these things but because of the idea that they are the most likely person who would like to sincerely help us [1].
By the development of information technology, people now are able to have a social relationship in internet. The media which enable them to establish a relationship virtually are called as social networks (or social media). Numerous social networks are widely used today. Facebook, twitter, Blackberry Messenger, and WhatsApp are few of them, following the steps of Friendster as the pioneer back then. Some features like chatting and video call are what people served with. However, chatting and calling are not the only things we can do in social networks. There is also trading as one of the most rapid activities people do other than those basic functions.
