I have had many experiences that demonstrate my life-long commitment to the promotion of progressive ideals. Some of these experiences go back as early as high school, I was a member Key Club and President of Natural Helpers (two volunteer groups), the International Club and helped my Muslim peers with the formation and establishment of M.E.C.C.A, to promote a positive image of Islam and educate Non-Muslims about the faith. In college I worked for NYPIRG, canvassing for environmental causes, did an internship and later worked for, Action for A Better Community a community action agency. After graduation, I volunteered at Citizen Action where I worked on the beginning stages of Healthcare Reform and the ACA. I want to be a New Leaders Council’s
After I complete my training in internal medicine I would like pursue fellowship training in Cardiology. My initial exposure to Cardiology was during my Internal Medicine rotation where I worked at a tertiary care center and a large amount of patients suffering from some form of cardiovascular disease. While I enjoyed the complexity of Internal Medicine, I was impressed with the depth of the Cardiology and the opportunities to perform Interventional techniques. I knew immediately that I had found my niche and began looking into programs that offered a solid academic program, research opportunities and a supportive environment in order to meet my long term goal of becoming a successful Cardiologist.
I am excited to be one of the candidates for the 2017-2018 National Junior Honor Society. I understand that the National Junior Honor Society is for students who demonstrate exemplary scholarship, citizenship, service, leadership, and character. I believe that I have maintained a grade point average of 3.55 or higher and have shown all of the five given standards of the National Junior Honor Society. I believe that my involvement with the National Junior Honor Society will help me to prepare my future as a leader, character role model, and good citizen.
I am interested in participating in CRISSP because I am eager to acquire theoretical knowledge, receive training through academic research, and to be exposed to pediatric designated research career paths under the supervision of CHOP faculty members. Furthermore, what I am looking to get out of this experience is an opportunity to strengthen my communication skills, and my knowledge on various laboratory techniques. Equally important, I am looking to get a chance to work under experienced CHOP faculty and learn how to best interpret and analyze data. Finally, CRISSP will assist me in further expanding my scientific background and to learn from medical professionals how to best conduct scientific research.
I have demonstrated the qualities of a capable and trusted leader through my involvement in my school, work, and community activities. I have held a part-time job at my church's daycare where I help create a safe, loving, caring, and nurturing learning environment for children of the ages zero to five. All the while, I have continued to be an active member in school functions and be in leadership positions in various clubs. Currently, I am serving as the District 17 FBLA President and the President of Northeast Vernon County's National Honor's Society Chapter. I have also been involved with sports throughout my high school years where I also demonstrated leadership abilities serving as our cheerleading Captain last year and Co-Captain the year
Education. It is a vital source needed in order to succeed. Though many schools offer a basic education, there are not many that offer the advanced level of learning that ASMSA provides. While attending ASMSA, I hope to be taught at a higher level that better suits my standards. ASMSA will give me the prospect to learn at a level that I can use to challenge myself to better my future.
I am interested in pursuing the esteem four year MD program at NOSM as it provides students a unique opportunity to gain medical experience at community-engaged institution. I would have the opportunity to learn medicine under the guidance of a well-respected faculty and be a part of a diverse, multicultural medical institution with a common goal of positively imparting healthcare to the North community through innovation and research
Watching my friends’ face quiver in disgust after recounting my experience of a videofluoroscopicy and my excitement from viewing the barium travel through the oropharyngeal and pharyngeal phases of swallowing, I realized I wanted to study the extraordinary field of Communication Sciences and Disorders. During my undergraduate career at East Carolina University, my anatomy and physiology class further fostered my enthusiasm for the field when discovering how intricate and complex it is for the human body to perform a simple task such as breathing and swallowing. I was able to utilize my thirst for knowledge of the human anatomy working in Dr. Perry’s Speech Imaging and Visualization Laboratory and enhance my writing skills by reviewing peer reviewed journal articles. Ultimately working and observing lab assistants create 3D anatomical models of the laryngeal mechanism, velopharyngeal mechanism, swallowing mechanism, skull and cranium,
I am a junior at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) majoring in Kinesiology. I am
I feel greatly honored to be considered to be a part of National Honor Society. Being a part of NHS will help me grow as a leader and as an overall person. As H. Jackson Brown Jr. once said “The best preparation for tomorrow is doing your best today”. I try to live by this quote by doing everything in my power to shape my future to be successful, and joyous. This mean getting involved in my community, staying active, joining a handful of clubs, and striving for high academic achievements.
Firstly, in my Academic Career, I have held a multitude of leadership roles. My sophomore year , I was a class representative for Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America, commonly known as FCCLA. It was my duty to alert members and keep them up to date regarding meetings and activities. As a representative of FCCLA, I learned how to work as a unit leader and a team member. That same school year, I ran for the district office of secretary for FCCLA. The nomination and election process, gave me the opportunity to grow and nurture my leadership abilities. It was eminently challenging; but I learned the importance of discipline and hard work. I accomplished my goal and was nominated Secretary for FCCLA. This office allowed me to meet plenty
I was born the fourth of December 1991 in Cranbrook British Columbia. I lived there for 18 years. Before joining the military I worked as a fry cook at a Burger King for three years and held part time jobs working for the College of the Rockies summer camp programs during the summer. My parents are currently living together in Cranbrook BC. My father works outside the province testing railway tracks for two months at a time, then returns home for two to three weeks. My mother acts as the main contact point of the family, she works as a financial clerk. I have a 22 year old sister who will be attending university in Calgary this September. I attended Mount Baker Secondary School in Cranbrook and graduated in 2009
Imagine seeing the beautiful smile of a stranger who has been unable to genuinely smile for months. Imagine the satisfying feeling of relief when a mother hears her child is stable after a tragic situation. Imagine hearing the news that the cancer is gone. To make an unremarkable impact on an individual’s life, one needs to possess the qualities of leadership, compassion, courage and intelligence. With success, there comes a moment when leadership and originality truly shine through an individual.
As an individual, due to my upbringing and experiences, I act in such a way that my future will be more desirable instead of focusing on how I can act to receive instant gratification. Some of these actions include pushing myself to take classes which demand more dedication, keeping my grades up, and taking upon myself leader-like responsibilities. I feel that one can conclude another’s moral growth through their actions, thus how one will judge me is heavily determined by my past actions. There is a multitude of influences in my life, however, the appeal of my imminent adulthood is more persuasive to keep working on my character.
I strongly believe in racial equality and unity, so with my friends, I helped start the first NAACP chapter in Fairfax County. In the chapter, we host different events to bring the community together and enjoy each other company regardless of race. I also believe that every child should have the ability to smile carefree, so I became the treasurer of Operation Smile. Operation Smile is a non-profit organization that helps children in developing countries receive cleft lip surgery and they have high school students and volunteers fundraise money. In the previous year, we were able to fundraise enough money to help two children get cleft lip surgery. Equal opportunity is important to me as well, so I partnered up with a non-profit called Leadership Initiatives and started a club at my school called The International Business Alliance Program (IBAP). In the club, we partner up with small business owners in developing countries and help them with innovative solutions and raise capital. Currently, we are partnered with a restaurant business owner whose community was torn apart by Boko Haram in Nigeria and we are helping her get back on her feet. Through my actions, I hope to inspire others in my community to take initiative and change the world. I believe that my presence in the Virginia Tech community will inspire initiative and make people fight for what they believe
I am hard working, ambitious and creative. Many who know me say that I am super organized, very social and good at noticing details. I love to work with others as I see it as an opportunity to learn and to gain a new friend. I have acquired many leadership experiences from Key Club, STEM, Swim managing, band leadership, etc. Each of these experiences has taught me something different. For example, being the Boy’s Swim Team manager I learned how to work with a group of 70 teenage boys. Also, with all the extracurricular activities that I do, I am superb at managing my time. What I can contribute to Youth Council is all the knowledge that I have gained over the years through all the activities I do and fresh, new ideas.
