Journal Entry: Reflective Writing As a student, I have always appreciated the challenge of coming up with words that truly express how I feel. Like a game, I play around with letters that are uniquely bonded to form words. From words to sentences to paragraphs, I have successfully written an essay. Yet, I feel like there is a missing piece, and if found I believe it would fit perfectly like a jigsaw puzzle. The missing piece defines the separation between great and good, and that is exactly what I found in ENGL 101. By using this opportunity to grow, I am prepared for the challenging topics in ENGL 102. One main progress is the change in my attitude. Changing my attitude not only changes the way I thought about the characters, but also the
In the 2011 article “Helping Students Meet the Challenges of Academic Writing”, educators Linda Fernsten and Mary Reda offer innovative self-reflective writing exercises that post-secondary instructors can employ to help students improve writer self-image and academic writing. The authors’ rationale for reflective and practical writing strategies were developed from direct classroom experience, and are based on four (4) assumptions. Their claim that self-reflective writing can aid student writers in overcoming conflict (due to dominant culture, upbringing, former writing experiences, gender, and other marginalizing factors) to improve writer self-identity is plausible. However, their argument that cross-curriculum academic writing can be improved through self-directed, self-reflective writing requires further investigation.
A person communicate different variety of ways, both verbally and non-verbally. Primates and other animals have been communicating without the use of language since long before humans invented verbal communication. Some scientists believe that even today, most communication between humans is non-verbal. Both types of communication differ significantly between genders and across cultures.
Lady Macbeth is unlike the women of her time. Her dominant personality and commanding tone differ from the culture of the Renaissance period where a common theme for women was to be seen but not heard. Men thought women were inferior in society, and a multitude of ladies were expected to take on humble occupations with no hope of furthering their education or job position. Leadership and the ability to make decisions concerning life and welfare were left up to the men (Cloud 1). Lady Macbeth challenges this belief in her ambition to be queen and her manipulative tactics to make sure such a goal is accomplished.
Coming into this class, I wasn't sure what to expect. Of course,I expected to be writing a lot but was unsure of the type of writing and the style. I was looking forward to writing challenging pieces that stretching me creatively as a writer. I wanted to explore how to express myself in my writing because it had been a long time since I'd written a creative essay. One of my main hopes for this class was challenging myself to become a better editor of my own papers. I often find it a tedious and laborious process to find and edit the grammatical errors in my papers. However, this is an important skill that I need to develop for my future as a successful writer.
I totally agree with what the author is saying in the text. It takes time to get a good product out even though we think some people are deep and wonderful they still have the same struggles that we have when it comes to writing. I like this text because it is realistic it is giving an account of first drafts from common day people and shows how it is even for professional writers have problems with. This point is important because as people we sometimes feel we are not as good or capable of doing something not realizing that the people we look up to have the same problems we do. Another point that I agree with the author on is that you have to start somewhere. Many times as writers we don’t know where to start when it comes to writing. That being said we will just sit and think for ten twenty minutes when we could've just been information on the paper and then editing it later. In addition I liked that the author used examples from his professional experience when it came to writing food reviews. By him using details like how he went to the restaurant and sat down with friends and took notes of what was said. This was good to me because it helps me connect with him and the things that he does to write his reviews.
One of the techniques I am going to use through out college is talking to
In this letter, I am going to be introducing myself, my writing goals, how writing is used in my field, and the science issue that affects my organization.

She sent a second email to disability services as she feels this goal is important for her future academic success. Before our meeting this morning, Mrs. Hungness went out to breakfast with her fiancé and her roommate.
The one area of my writing that i've been struggling with is making a strong introduction. I find my introduction to be the most difficult because it is the reader's first impression of you and your paper. I found a website from the owl. The owl serves as a online writing center, and is a page to help student with their writing problems. I used the website evaluation checklist to verify that the website can be trusted. The authors can be contacted by email. In addition the people who write the document are qualified because they are professors in that field. Moving down the checklist all the links provided are live as well as the document has been updated this year (2016). All the information give is relevant and useful in helping
"Come on little brother! You'll be the tallest man in all of Westeros if you can just get up here." Jaime's bright white teeth and charming smile looked down at him.
Early in the year I was diagnosed with depression that rendered me unable to complete my dissertation to any fit standard. Primarily, my ability to focus was very negatively affected, crippling my ability to do effective research and to write a serious academic document.
Before I came to college, I felt my writing had to follow a certain pattern and be fixated around one way of thinking. What I was fortunate to learn was quite the opposite. Writing does not have to follow any certain pattern, but can rather be structured through many different possibilities. I was also told in high school that my papers either had to agree or disagree with the given topic, even if I believed otherwise. This formulated a very one-track way of thinking when it came to my papers. Now I know that I can let my mind explore new and exciting ideas. I can agree, disagree, compliment, criticize, and question the author however my heart desires, as long as I have the evidence to back myself up. Many authors in the book, Writing About Writing, explain their processes as well as the processes of others when it comes to writing. As a writer, I can draw on my own processes and relate them to the authors, as well as use their ideas and apply them to myself. Through reading, I have learned new methods of invention, planning and revising, and incubation when it comes to writing. All ways I can use to create more meaningful and creative work.
Quality work and commitment from every single employee plays an important role in the growth of the company. An Organisation being well managed or having a constant improvement is the result of each and every employee attaining the quality level. On the other hand, lack of commitment from an individual employee could actually disturb the proper functioning of an
Analyzing one’s work is incredible important in order to explore one’s style of writing and to discover certain factors that influence it. When analyzing the work done throughout this semester, I came to the conclusion that important aspects of my writing include how my identity and style of writing changes based on my audience, the different ways I build my ethos and my use of logos, and the importance of kairos in order to persuade the reader.
William Wordsworth once said, “Fill your paper with the breathings of your heart.” Writing is not just about picking out words that sound good together to form a sentence. I believe the philosophy of writing is to allow people to freely express themselves. Writing gives people a freedom within themselves and grants the room to grow and discover character. I have always loved to write. Before my high school career I would use my free time to write poems and short stories, along with school essays. I have always enjoyed the way the words seem to fall out of your brain and onto the paper. During high school, my essay writing has made a drastic improvement. This first semester in Comp 110 is where I feel my writing has been at its best. I have learned many new things about my writing and writing as a whole. I believe I had the room and time to grow as a writer during Comp 110. My main focus when trying to improve my writing are my strengths and weaknesses. My weaknesses also lead me to set new goals for Comp 210.
