One night, in the middle of the summer, Japes woke out of a sound sleep with a startling revelation about a girl he knew when growing up in Vacationland. She embodied the meaning of service through and through despite the fact that she did not work in a hotel. Her demeanor and giving nature were a true giveaway. Japes, not a believer in fantasy, or carrying any strong religious values, experienced a vision that night which he never forgot. His classmate, Janeen, who he knew in high school and had become good friends with, gently waved goodbye to him in his sleep. He had not seen or spoken to Janeen for several years since their lives had taken them in separate directions. Married and starting a new life she and her husband had relocated …show more content…
The only knowledge he gathered concerning the new group was that they were in one geographical area. Van accepted Japes resignation and two week notice. He then decided to give him a hard time, instructing him to go into forty guest rooms, each afternoon to clear the dirty sheets and unload the laundry carts. Van thought it was important to do physical work to help the shortfall in staffing for Josie. Japes again complied with his wishes, although he physically had an extremely hard time. Josie was embarrassed for Japes, as he supported her in many ways over the years. This proved to Japes that he made a smart decision. Japes was working far beyond his physical limitations, but like many with his challenges, the desire to “ fit in” outweighed common sense. He respected Van because of his position at the hotel, but he did not respect Van for his actions. “We are what we do” did not mean what we physically did. Van had a lot to learn. Japes’ was leaving his friend Sot, and although this change had occurred many times before he somehow knew they would stay connected. It was a strange bond he and Sot shared. In fact, he demonstrated many poor characteristics that most would find obnoxious. Only time would tell what would …show more content…
Enjoying an early spring baseball game at fabulous Fenway highlighted a tremendous welcome to town, where he watched some big character named Clemons strike out twenty batters. It was so cold that day Japes figured the pitcher simply wanted to get into the warmth of the clubhouse. Located not far from “Cod City” at the crossroads of two major highways, and immediately adjacent to a shopping plaza, enabled the sprawling, ornate hotel to attract many. The outside of the hotel looked like a castle, with towers in various locations all connected by hallways while the grounds sparkled with perfectly manicured beds of flowers and various perennial plantings. The doormen and bellmen wore beefeater outfits, which made quite an impression. The lobby itself, nothing spectacular and indeed appearing small for such a large hotel, appeared incredibly busy. The hotel located at the crossroads of the two major highways resulted in weekend traffic nightmares. Dozens of travelers, at the last minute, oftentimes decided to spend the night until the traffic cleared the next day. As a result, the front office would handle as many as one hundred unexpected walk-ins. This presented a real challenge with scheduling in order to accommodate these sudden
When we make our way past countless vendor to the tunnel the crowd roars. As I step through the tunnel into the light the glare of the setting July sun hits me. When my eyes finally readjust to the light I look around and almost have trouble with my depth perception because of how big and crowded Fenway is.

Carrying the dog represents the relationship the speaker had with his ex-girlfriend before they separated. When the speaker awkwardly steps onto the scale with the dog and “subtracts [his] weight” (Collins 7), he is symbolically removing himself from the relationship and can now assess what remains. Just as it was easier to discover the dog’s weight after removing himself from their sum, he had not “figured out what [she] amounted to” (11) until after he had left. The last stanza indicates that with his new-found perspective, he begins to doubt the decision to leave. The symbolism of the the man awkwardly holding the dog allows the reader to easily conjure Collins’ mental state and transition from a general situation to one specific to Collins.

They say the desert is unforgiving. Especially for those that do not belong there and she definitely did not belong here. Matix confined to a manmade plaster shell in a hospital somewhere in the Chihuahuan desert she had a feeling she was just like a turtle washed too far inland. Just like that turtle who needs the currents of the ocean in order to survive, she needs to use the only moving currents she has left to help her finish what she started. She promised never to use this again but what other choice does she have now, she can’t just lay here and do nothing while others struggle forth to survive. Her brother will be very displeased…
Thirty minutes had passed since Jahlil had entered the bank and he had wasted all of his ammo shooting rounds outside to fool the police into thinking the threat was larger than it was. Jahlil trained his weapon on his hostages and yelled for them to shut up and stay still. The police were outside yelling for him to come out on the bullhorn. They still had no clue how many people were armed inside he thought. Jahlil stood frozen. Waiting for the inevitable. Waiting for the huge double doors to get toppled by the swat battering ram and the full brunt of the law to bear down on him. It never came. Instead a lone police officer came in through the back. He was a short Mexican man. He looked very desperate but there was a dangerous gleam in his eyes. The moment Jahlil and the officer locked eyes their weapons came up. “Drop your weapon” Jahlil said. “Where’s my wife?” Said the man. There was a long silence. Jahlil was bluffing. He had no ammo. He was beaten. One look into this police officer’s eyes and he knew there was only one way out.
Junior then introduced the readers to his best friend, Rowdy, who tried to help him feel better by telling him no one would notice if Junior left and ran away, so he should just tough it out and stay at the reservation. Junior understood what Rowdy meant, and knew it was Rowdy’s own way of showing him he cared about him. The narrator states, “His heart is as strong and mean as a snake, too. But he is my best human friend and he cares about me, so he would always tell me the truth” (16).

He’s a year away from receiving his degree in gaming design and development and now he’s talking about attending culinary school. Love you son, but only one degree, You get to do the next one. You are an awesome chef. The red snapper you grilled for dinner tonight is mouth watering good.
The young man who told Betty Clay his name was Jason felt he had not gotten what he had worked hard for in life. He knew of the law of life that said you get what you earn, but he didn’t think what he had gotten of recent was a fair return. If you work hard, you get good things. If you treat people right, they will treat you accordingly. His understanding of what should be happening was different from what was actually happening.
"More than anything, I just want you to know that there is more than one person you can lean on. You may have someone up their who you are relying on, but you have two incrediably strong sons who would never wish to see their mother in pain like this. Whatever the outcome we finally get your boys will be strong for you and in return I'm sure you will be strong for them."[/b]
"You can't keep holding on to stuff like this, James." Natasha sighed, slipping a delicate hand through her hair. "It's not healthy."
Jitters’ was the assistant general manager and was a skittish server. This was the only time in Japes career that he saw a server placed in such a poor position. Jitters had a little bit of a Kiva in him as he always did what Shorty told him to do. He was not independent of thought and showed true difficulty in making a decision. He was always nervous whether conducting a meeting or simply walking the hall. An honest server and a good citizen of the hotel, but in the wrong role for someone so ill-prepared. He was seen from time to time in the public space of the hotel with Mr. London. Mr. London’, was the President of the Hotel Division and was responsible for all the general managers and their assistants. He was from Europe and was the one who insisted on complying with the demanding work schedule. He would openly berate Jitters at the top of his lungs in front of everyone. He would publicly embarrass him to make a point. The only point he was trying to make was that he was in charge and all the servers would fall in line. The only real communication Japes had with Mr. London started as Mr. London one day decided to raise his voice at Japes. Japes, in a calm manner, directed Mr. London to the side of the lobby and said loud enough for any server to hear, ”Take your condescending attitude and leave, I don 't know who you think you are but you will never talk to me in that fashion!” Mr. London never addressed Japes
