Was Jane long really the mother of Texas?I think not . It all started on july 23 1798 , when Jane Herbert wilkinson was born. When Jane was born the doctors thought that she was dead and then proceeded to shoved her in a night stand drawer while they saved her mother's life.When the doctors opened the nightstand drawer they discovered Jane Herbert Wilkinson alive and well. Jane was the tenth child in her family.Sadly,Jane’s father died when jane was only one years old .Jane later became an orphan at the age of fourteen. After jane's mom died she moved in with her aunt .Jane’s family was very wealthy, so wealthy that Jane got her own slave named Kian , they were really good friends and when Jane was sixteen she was on her way to school and Kian told her about a very handsome man that was a doctor and persuaded her to skip school and meet him ,she then proceeded to introduced her to James long ,her future husband. Jane later got married to James long in may of 1815 and had her first child when she was only eighteen years old .In September of 1821 jane was expecting her second child and stayed behind at a post while james,her husband left ,she vowed to not leave till he returned but , he never did. She had her child in a very harsh winter,on the Bolivar peninsula in december of 1821. Jane and her slave,Kian fought starvation for over two weeks.She claimed to be the first english-speaking woman to give birth in Texas but, we know now that she wasn't.Soon after she found out that she was a widow in 1822 at the age of twenty four . …show more content…

However, before they can begin their fight to Goliad and San Antonio, the men need a leader; someone with great fame and popularity in Texas. The man they choose is Stephen F. Austin, who has much renown in the region. Austin has an outstanding knowledge in many areas, whom the people of Texas will always follow. They are always willing to listen to his advice on certain situations and topics. Austin’s history is what makes him the great man that people still believe and love. Austin, fulfilled his father's dream of establishing the first Anglo American settlement in the Spanish owned the province of Texas. He accomplished many things in his life, such as winning the Texas freedom, going to law school, and was the president of Texas when it was it’s own country.
Austin died on December 27, 1836, at the age of forty-three. He could have prevented the conventions of 1832 and 1833 if he could of had his way but he could not so he had to moderate their demands. Mexican officials accused him of weakness and instability. The people of Texas consider Austin one of their greatest heroes. The city of Austin is named after him, as are countless streets, parks and schools, including Austin College and Stephen F. Austin State University. He is know as “the father of Texas”

Ann Richards was the second female Texas governor. Unlike Miriam Ferguson she didn’t serve two terms. Although, she ran for a second term she lost to George W. Bush. During Ann’s governorship she introduced lottery tickets to Texas. She bought the first lottery in May of 1992 near Austin. The lottery revenue was supposed to enhance the finances for schools. Ann Richards was also known for her anti-homosexual mentality. She signed a law that made homosexuality illegal. Ann Richards is also recognized for appointing the first non-white commission head. Hispanic, Lena Guerrero was appointed as the head of the Texas Railroad Commission.
Moses Austin would not live to see it come to fruition as he was attacked my highway men and died shortly thereafter. That would fall on his son, Stephen F. Austin, who is often referred to as the “Father of Texas”. Austin and the other settlers were drawn to the territory by grants and deferred taxation provided by the Spanish government; however, in 1821 Mexico declared independence from Spain. Austin was concerned that the new independent Mexican government would not recognize the previous arrangements made with his father. He would have to travel all the way to Mexico City to make his case, and in 1823 the Mexican Congress confirmed Austin’s grant.

The state of Texas gained its independence on December 29, 1845 after six and a half enduring months of ceaseless brawls. The colonization of Texas first began with Stephen F. Austin, whom is also recognized as the Father of Texas. Stephen began the uprising for self-reliance against the Army of Mexico, led by Antonio López de Santa Anna, when he proposed opening up Texas to a swamp of immigrants. This action of his branched off throughout the years into countless battles for the Lonestar state to become individualistic. The first battle of the Revolution was the Battle of Gonzales, ending with only two casualties and the victory of the Texas soldiers. The Alamo is one of the most memorable engagements within this period of time, where the legendary cry, ‘’Remember the Alamo!’’ originated from. The Alamo still stands tall today and is visited by many each year, and represents the Texan soldier’s heroic opposition to injustice versus the government of Mexico. The Battle of San Jacinto was the shortest and final confrontation of the Texas Revolution. This resulted in a Texan victory, and an overall win for the Texian soldiers as they wash away Mexico with their statement of independence. The Texas Revolution was a conflict in the nineteenth century between the people of Texas and Mexican soldiers. The most famous empresario of this time was Stephen F. Austin. Austin was born in Virginia and grew up in Missouri. When he had completed his schooling in Connecticut, he returned to Missouri where he held many lucrative government positions. Some of his posts included: board member of the territorial legislature of Missouri for 6 years, director in the Bank of St. Louis, and judge of the federal circuit of Arkansas (Barker 20). In 1822, Austin headed to Mexico to strike up a land grant with the government. Due to the radical changes in the Mexican government going on at the time, he was forced to stay there for the next year to guarantee the grant would be passed. Austin was in Mexico for just one year, and he saw it ruled by a regent (under Spain), an emperor, and a military triumvirate (Barker 23). Finally the grant was passed and he made his way to his new colony in present-day southeast Texas.

The land of Texas was used to be owned by Mexicans. Due to the argument between Texans and Mexicans caused the battle of San Jacinto and Mexican War. In long ago before American settlers moved to Texas, this place was so rich and an abundance of land.
In the December of 1835, during the Texas Revolution, the Alamo was occupied by two hundred Texan soldiers located near the present day in San Antonio. The Alamo was a church in the middle of San Antonio. William Travis and James Bowie were the commanders who were prepared to defend the Alamo from the Mexicans who wanted it back. Unfortunately, the Texan soldiers were outnumbered to secure the Alamo from General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna by thousands of his soldiers. The battle was only for thirteen days and Santa Anna slaughtered everyone except for a few such as a widowed wife named Susanna Wilkerson Dickinson, her infant daughter Angelina, and the one person who witnessed the final assault and survived named Joe. For the Texans, the battle of the Alamo is an "image of brave resistance and a rallying cry in their battle for freedom." This urged more Texans to join the military and lead the following fight to triumph against Mexico. The battle cry “Remember the Alamo!” within Texas culture was a symbol of “Patriotic sacrifice.”
