"We're looking for opportunities to do more, and there will be boots on the ground, and I want to be clear about that", Secretary of Defense Ash Carter said about defeating ISIS, or the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria. Because my partners and I agree with Secretary of Defense Carter, we stand in support of the resolution, Resolved: The US should declare war on ISIS. It is important that the US government does anything and everything to keep the people it governs over safe. With ISIS’s terrorist acts now spreading across Europe and with ISIS-inspired attacks here in America, the threat is growing each and every day. The 3 main contentions we have to stand by this resolution include: 1. The San Bernardino attack—the deadliest Islamic assault on US soil since the September 11 …show more content…
ISIS’s death toll has skyrocketed since 2014. The first argument is that The San Bernardino attack—the deadliest Islamist assault on the homeland since the September 11 attacks 14 years ago, has proved that ISIS is in America. Tashfeen Malik and her husband, Syed Rizwan Farook, who shot at Farook's co-workers at a party in San Bernardino, had stockpiled assault weapons, ammunition, and pipe bombs. So, this was an act of terrorism, designed to kill innocent people. 14 people were left dead. The second argument is that ISIS is in America, and will continue to grow. 82 people have been accused by the FBI of trying to help/join the Islamic State as of February, 2016. According to charges filed by the FBI: 28 of the accused took steps to carry out an attack. 2 actually carried out an attack in San Bernardino, Calif., in December of 2015, killing 14, with an additional 22 people wounded. 3 of the 82 joined the Islamic State in Syria (not including the man and woman who carried out the San Bernardino attack). ISIS is recruiting, in the U.S., at about three-times the rate of Al Qaeda. As of November 15, 2014, ISIS’s militant population was at least 200,000 according to a senior Kurdish
On September 11, 2001 , the United States was attacked under the influence of Osama Bin Laden. Ever since these attacks took place the United States increased their security measures on who and what enters into the country to protect its grounds. The actions of Bin Laden came from a terrorist group named Al Qaeda. Al Qaeda was a terrorist group whose founder was Bin Laden. Al Qaeda led to evolution of Isis which is an insurgency and not a terrorist group. The evolution of Isis came from a book named Defense of Muslim Lands. Within this book the were the common beliefs and obligations to becoming a jihad. The key beliefs consisted of “ A Jihad is a personal obligation, Muslims have been humiliated by the hands of impure Regimes and western
Isis has 30,000 fighters( “Isis trail of terror”). February 2015, Isis had 20,00 more foreign fighters who had come to help( “Isis trail of terror”). Not including 150 from the United State. Isis is spreading into Syria, Iraq, and towards Baghdad tormenting the sick, and killing people till they decide to join their side ( “Isis trail of terror”).Obama said, “ Let's be clear about Isis, they have rampaged across cities beheading people in cowardly acts of violence.”( “Isis trail of terror”). Isis is growing bigger and bigger each second, and only we can stop it.
December 2, 2015, there were 14 people killed and 21 injured from Islamic extremists. This attack took place in San Bernardino, California, and was put in place by Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik. The mass shooting took place at a work training event, once the shooting was over the couple fled the scene. However, the police pursued their vehicle and killed both perpetrators four hours later. They both were not affiliated with any terrorist organization, but were inspired by terrorist groups and were “homegrown” (Serrano & Bennett) Islamic extremists. As the terrorist attacks are becoming more frequent and violent, the need for a solution is increasing to handle the war on terrorism.
Armed with bombs and automatic rifles, these members of the ISIS terror cell murdered over 120 people, leaving countless others wounded.
Conclusion: So, today I told you why America needs to continue the campaign against ISIS. I did this by first explaining what ISIS has done to innocent civilians and how ignoring these actions would be morally wrong. Then, I mentioned several logical reasons as to why the airstrikes need to continue. Lastly, I explained the possible economic consequences that could occur if this unrest in the Middle East is not stopped.
Nearly 30,000 people have joined ISIS in the past 12 months. ISIS is getting larger every minute. 2The size of ISIS will blow your mind. A year ago ISIS had between 19,000 and 31,000. Now they are saying that ISIS has gone down in size. Today ISIS holds between 20,000 and 25,000 people in this terrorist group. They don't all go over to one spot for an attack. They send about 5,000 isis fighters to a spot. They don't all go
For the past few years, the terrorist group ISIS has made headlines around the world with their acts of terror and rapid spread. Naturally, people all over the Earth have called for the obliteration of ISIS, and many have looked to the US for action. The question that prevails the most: should the US put soldiers in Syria to try and directly destroy this radical terrorist group? The safest, most reliable answer is an emphatic no, the US should not put "boots on the ground" against ISIS.
The issue between ISIS and their allies as well as the United States and their allies is a tough issue to master. Obviously, people want to see the most minimal amount of casualties as possible. On the other hand, the United States and their allies want to see this group of extremist stopped from their dangerous measures. Because of this feel of urgency when it comes to destroying these extremists, some think the fastest way is to send in an army, but yet they do not want casualties. The other issue that the United States has to face when dealing with this issue, is vengeance. ISIS and their allies have vowed to bring America and their allies to their knees, this is not something that American can take lightly. These groups have proven
The recent terrorist attacks by ISIS have without question reignited the debate over whether ISIS is a threat to the United States. I believe this question easily answers itself. Eighty two Americans have been accused of helping the Islamic states. While out of those eighty two people thirty two asserted to carry out an attack on American territory. However, twenty eight actually went through with it and took action on carrying out their plan. Only five were in contact with the Islamic states while planning their attacks. Even though most of the attackers were not in direct contact with ISIS while planning these attacks, their actions were influenced by the belief that they are doing it for ISIS.
In the past few years, ISIS has grown to be an extremely strong and dangerous terrorist group. ISIS developed from divisions in Al Qaeda, another terrorist group. Both of these terrorist groups believe that the successor of the Prophet Muhammad should be elected, not through bloodline. Although they come from the same place, they are not similar at all. ISIS slowly moves with small attacks, like beheadings and videos to show their power. They conquer territories to expand their “Caliphate,” as they would call it. Al Qaeda was very fast moving with deliberately powerful attacks such as the plane hijackings that led to the falling of the Twin Towers. According to the website, Mirror, in a Jihadi magazine, ISIS says they hate the west because there are some atheists and disbelievers of Allah. They find that to be extremely offensive for the reason that they think the highest of Allah, or their God. They also hate that we invaded their lands.
Recently, 9 young men had a goal of leaving Minnesota to fly to Syria to join ISIS, but the authorities caught them just in time before they flew out. The FBI started investigating these young men back in 2014 as they were suspicious of joining racial groups in Syria. Social media and propaganda made joining ISIS sound appealing to these men. There main message was that “you’re not wanted in the west, so come join ISIS.” A friend of theres did exactly that, Abdi Nue is a man from Minneapolis who flew over to Syria and joined ISIS. Throughout his time there, before he died, he was in contact with his friends back home and he also help convinced them to join. The FBI had arrested all 9 of them, most of them at an airport. They are all
ISIS, we all know the name. The very name that puts fear in americans just by hearing it. ISIS is a terrorist organization in the middle east. To be exact, they are the richest terrorist organization in the world. Getting most of their funds from imposing taxes on citizens of the towns they capture, abducting people and collecting ransoms, extortion rackets, intercepting aid meant for suffering Syrian and Iraqi people, and pillaging.ISIS is more of a “Horrible” not just because of these things, but because they are a type of hate group that will kill anyone who do not believe what they believe in. ISIS has done horrible acts of hatred towards christians by beheading them; Even Americans were beheaded: a journalist named James Foley and a british
Up to 3,400 Westerners, including up to 200 Americans have gone or attempted to travel to Syria to join ISIS (Sanchez 2015, 10). ISIS has not been successful militarily beyond the current area they occupy, although their online presence and propaganda has aided greatly in their efforts at recruiting foreign fighters from throughout the Middle East and the West. This trend is also alarming due to the threat of individuals similarly being influenced and carrying out a “lone wolf” style terrorist attack. As we have seen in recent weeks, ISIS took responsibility for attacks that occurred in Kuwait, Tunisia and France. These attacks claimed the lives of 54 individuals and occurred in close proximity to June 29. This date is significant due to this date being the anniversary of ISIS’s declaration of establishing a caliphate, or holy Islamic state, by ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi (Walt 2015, 7). The lone wolf threat is one of the most troubling and difficult to detect and will most likely be the preferred method of future attacks in the Western world. With minimum training, radicalized individuals can strike fear and cause widespread panic wherever they attack and also bring notoriety to the ISIS name, thus furthering the possibility of more individuals wanting to join their
Every day, terrorism is spreading to other countries and one of their main objectives is to take down the U.S. Groups of people in middle eastern countries
Many of these terrorists started out at Camp Bucca, Iraq. Camp Bucca is a military detention center, which held captured fighters and suspected fighters. (Death) The American Forces ran this camp during
