Does a disagreement with a cognitive peer from another faith or philosophical perspective reduce the confidence one has in the justification of one’s belief?
This is a difficult question for one to answer for various reasons and one of those reasons being that when someone believes that their knowledge in a particular subject is greater than others it’s very difficult to change that person mind or the way that they see a particular subject. Although If I came up on this issue and someone asked me if a cognitive peers views would make me second guess my beliefs I must say no, it wouldn 't lessen my belief or confidence on my point of view if that person was just as knowledgeable as I am. Everyone in this world no matter how old or how young, no matter how educated or how uneducated someone is everyone in this world has had a disagreement with someone. We as humans have disagreements on a daily basis. Whether that disagreement is over something important or just a subject that doesn 't matter to anyone else other than the two discussing. When an argument occurs that means that there is two different points of views and that is what makes an argument interesting because you can have more knowledge on the way that someone else thinks about the topic that you are talking about.
When it comes down to religion I must say that in no way would my point of view change if someone had a different opinion then I do. Why? Because one whose view would change after speaking to a cognitive
Without knowing that there are philosophies that try to explain the idea of Skepticism, I have always tried to not claim anything or accept anything that could not be proven to me in some way (Detrick, “In Search of Truth: Western Philosophy”). This can be a problem for some people when it comes to religion, but the facts that have been produced, have me able to accept the idea of Christianity in most instances. That being said, I now know that I am also a little agnostic because, I believe, “that it is wrong for a man to say that he is certain of the objective truth of any proposition unless he can produce evidence which logically justifies that certainty (Detrick, “In Search of Truth: Western
The first is, you can hold knowledge of a psychological perspective from a Secular Combatant. Even if that person does not believe that there is any value in Christianity or a Creator, you can learn something considering the psychological perspective! You can guard yourself if you disagree with what a person is saying, but it is important to be respectful and look at the positive things you can learn throughout an argument. The second point that I can learn and appreciate from those who hold Secular Combatants’ or Christian Combatants’ versions is, I can broaden my Christian worldview! Entwistle states that “The Christian Combatants view is alive and influential” (2015, p. 213).
One of the ways people’s opinions can be grouped together is by age. According to “Factors that affect decision making: gender and age differences”, the younger you are, the more rash your decisions will be. The younger people will tend to just base their decisions on their feelings then and there, not look at the facts and see which
We are provided with a larger starting knowledge base then most, which lends its self to our generation being very skeptical. We are ones that don’t tend to take many things at face value. Since we have grown up in a time where our world around us is changing so rapidly we are forced to take a step back and understand our situation first and react/ form our opinions second. But with this way of approaching the world we fall short a lot of the time to see the small steps that make up the whole picture. Since we are trying so hard to wade through the mass amount information we are bombarded with on a regular basis we have all these over simplified opinions on a lot of subjects without truly understanding them. Take the most recent election for example. You have thousands of adolescents ages 13-20 voicing their opinions on social media without truly knowing what they are talking about. They are going off the small knowledge of the election that they have heard from their parents or the skewed media coverage that pops up on their social media feed. They never spend the time to do any research themselves. This is why, I think we are sometimes labeled as the lazy generation. Our elders see us being slightly educated on a lot of topics but never spending the time to go beyond the
My perspective changed for many reasons. As I grow and mature I start to understand them a little better. For example when I was little I got really angry
One who is posing an argument is a great deal more likely to persuade the audience if one has the proper authority. For example, if a driver is speeding down the freeway, that driver will be much more likely to pull over if there is a police car in pursuit, as opposed to an ice cream truck. Why will the speedster pull over for the police car? Because the policeman in the car has the proper authority and is able to uphold the law, unlike the ice cream truck driver. Arguments work similarly to the ice cream truck example. If one tries to motivate people to change, one must have the proper authority. While one may be a well-researched scholar on the matter, it does not make a difference to the audience if one does not have the proper position.
Though this may seem contradictory by default, it pays to not underestimate the ignorance of the populace at large, particularly when normally skeptical and rational individuals are swayed into thinking along with the group.
The understanding of the literacy for the reader is important so they become aware of the relationship between language and power. The reader must be able to evaluate what they had read and reflect on what they’ve learned from it. As for the awareness of the rhetorical situation for the the composer of the writing is important as well so they are able to to write in a manner that is unique to them and is also an effective way of conveying their message to their audience.

I am confident in my religious beliefs, but I also am careful to listen to others who may have opposing views. I think as a society in general, we all could benefit from hearing ideas that contradict and challenge our worldviews in order to better ourselves and the people around us.
Religion these days have become the center of our attention as we contemplate whats right and what is wrong. Figuring out what religious views fit best with what you believe can be difficult to grasp as sometime we begin to wonder if what we read or believe actually is true. It is only human nature to question the beliefs that are set before us. Religious views all over the world have many spiritual beliefs and traditions that are all different in some way. It is important to have the knowledge of different religions as not everyone in this world believes the way you might. Having the sensitivity towards their belief is important and having the understanding that you can't change the way that they think. Two world religious views that are
We should not be blind to arguments made by our peers and professors, rather we should argue for our specific beliefs. If these beliefs turn out to be incorrect, we should be willing to change our stance on the issue.
Everybody is entitled to have their own view of the world and how big or smal of an importance something is in their lifes. I know my worldviews are almost never going to be one hundrend persent the same as anyone elses, and that is what makes us who we are. Weather it is religion, family importaneand belif about any subjects. Though it may be difficult to understand other people views, we one day willrespect others views of the world and will be much more open
For many people, religion is a very touchy subject. For most, it is a personal decision; people choose a faith that aligns with their beliefs, ideas, and faiths. Although people would like to think that religion is a personal decision, and they can adapt it to how they feel and what they believe, in practice, that is not the case. Religion represents a commitment to a set of principles that are not moldable, adaptable, or flexible. Religion, although it may be a personal belief, it is extremely defined, with little to no room for flexibility. If people try to modify their religion to their own beliefs or ideas, the pushback can be severe. The lines in religion and faith as to what is acceptable and what is not acceptable are clear, and
During the course of this class, I have learned a lot about different religions. I still have an unprejudiced view of religion. However, I did not suspend my belief to have an understanding of religion. I have been able to learn of other religious beliefs without feeling threatened of my own. I found there are many different practices in other religions, some I agree with and some I do not agree with. I have come to except others, ways of worship without getting upset. I have become humble in my conclusion now that I have a better understanding of others beliefs. The world seems to jump to conclusions and be judgmental about other religions. Postponing ones judgement on a religion is a difficult thing to do. Being raised and taught a certain religion and set of beliefs is distilled in to one’s mind. I, on the other hand, reserved my personal judgement until I have learned more about it.
