Lisbon is the main area that Henry the Navigator sent out his ships to discover the new world. This became a very popular trading depot because of its location and finding new things during exploration. This was a place where the Colombian Exchange happened, especially with what is now Brazil. This is also where Ferdinand Magellan set off to sail completely around the earth.

Portugal got some of Spain’s land in Africa and Asia, as well as present-day Brazil. Spain got the rest.

Before 1448, European had to use the Silk Road to trade with Asia. In 1453, Muslim took over Constantinople; the only way to Asia had been cut. European nations started to use the Maritime way, and they took over many places in Asia as their access to an easier trade system. This area will resemble Brazil which is the main place that Portuguese claimed. Overall, New Portugal is full of pioneers who played a huge role in exploration to the new world and around the world.
